Keyspan presentation remoteIt’s hard to get real excited about a presentation remote but they are definitely a must if you do any type of projected presentations through a notebook, and this looks like one of the better ones. The remote uses RF to wirelessly connect from up to 100 feet away so you’re not having to walk back next to your laptop every time you need to change a slide. It also features mouse and volume control, a laser pointer, a button to turn off the display to bring the attention away from the scree when needed and you can power the thing off when you’re not using it to save on the AAA batteries. One really nice added feature is that the little USB RF receiver fits into the end of the remote when not in use so you can always find it when you need …

MX Air Mouse from Logitech

Posted in Logitech, Mouse, Remotes by Chris Weber on July 12th, 2007

MX Air Mouse from LogitechLogitech has launched a new product today that will help further integrate computers into home entertainment centers. The new handheld gadget is a essential a mouse and Logitech is calling it an air mouse, or the MX Air Mouse to be exact.

On a desktop surface the Air Mouse works pretty much like any other mouse using laser tracking to detect movement along with right and left click buttons. The difference between this and other similar devices is that it also works while being held in the air by recognizing specific hand gestures. The company claims that the mouse can even distinguish between normal hand movement and the deliberate gestures controlling operations on your computer.

We’ve seen other motion sensitive mice before that can sense movement and make the cursor react appropriately, but Logitech says the MX Air Mouse uses something a little different called …

Responder SST remote starts your car from a mile away

Posted in Automotive, Remotes by Reuben Drake on June 8th, 2007

Responder SST remote car starter is two-way and works from a mile awayRemote car starters are nothing new, and we’ve even seen some two-way communication key fobs before that are not to shabby, but we’ve never seen one with the range that the Responder SST has.

This remote car starter is actually a two-way transceiver device that not only sends signals to your vehicle to telling it to start or lock the doors, but communication is sent back to the key fob remote with the status of the vehicle. The remote will let you know if the doors are locked, the vehicles security system is armed, if it’s running and will even alert you if the alarm is triggered.

The big kicker with the Responder SST is that it does all this from up to a mile away. On a cold day you can start your car …

Super-Sized Remote Control

Posted in Remotes by Reuben Drake on May 25th, 2007

Super Sized Remote ControlMeasuring almost a foot in length, this ginormous remote control from Brookstone almost ensures that losing it between the cushions of your couch is out of the question. It works like most universal remote controls with the ability to program it to control a large number of home entertainment devices with over 296 codes for almost all the major manufacturers. It also features some glow-in-the-dark keys to make it easier to see in the dark so you don’t bang your shins on it when it’s left laying on the floor.

Aside from being difficult to lose, this remote might work well for someone with a vision impairment, as a funny fathers day gadget or simply if you’re a giant. I’d love to see what a TV would look like from the makers of this super-sized remote! Actual measurements are 5 inches wide, 11 inches long …

Posted in Remotes by Darrin Olson on May 17th, 2007

Ninja Remote ControlHow many times have you been at a bar, restaurant or even at the gym when they have a television tuned into a station showing the history of synchronized swimming, or worse yet some popular singing contest. Wouldn’t be nice if you could discretely take control of the television and change the channel to something worth watching? Maybe if you had some kind of small remote control that could automatically find the code on just about any television?

The Ninja Remote from ThinkGeek runs for about $9 and is just such a gadget. Not any larger than a normal key fob for your car, this little remote can attach to your keychain and fit in your pocket wherever you go. By holding down the mute button for a little while the remote methodically scrolls through the codes for different TV manufacturers until you notice the …

Controller for Xbox 360 with QWERTY keyboardMicrosoft has revealed its plans to launch a QWERTY style handheld keyboard add-on for its Xbox 360 game controller. In a company press release Microsoft said that the keyboard will connect directly into the Xbox 360 controller to support text and instant messaging even though they released a photo of what appears to be a keyboard/game controller that’s one unit. Maybe there will be both the keyboard add-on and a keyboard controller? It seems that we’ll know in a month or two.

In any case Microsoft is making this move because it will be launching its Windows Live Messenger service on Xbox 360 the week of May 7. Now the console gamers can chat with those that have MSN on their PCs and WMAs. However, before you start having visions of chatting away to your buds while playing “Gears of War”, …

Wii Sports Cuff Eliminates Wiinjuries

Posted in Remotes, Wii by Chetz on April 7th, 2007

Wii Sports Cuff helps prevent injuries due to losing control of the Wii remoteAfter one month of having its customers injuring themselves in Wii-related accidents, last December Nintendo started replacing the Wii remote strap with one that was more durable and held up to the heavy use that gamers were laying down on it.

Still, for some players the new and improved Nintendo strap may not be enough and for those people there is now an alternative: the Retractable Wii Sports Cuff. All you need do is attach your Wii remote to the neoprene Cuff and then wrap it around your wrist and you’re good to go. The retractable cord can extend to a maximum of 13 inches and when you’re not holding the remote the cord will slide back into the housing and leave your remote dangling from the end.

Sharp AQUOS Remote Control

Posted in Remotes, Sharp by Chetz on March 2nd, 2007

Sharp AQUOS Remote ControlWhen Sharp unveiled their new line of integrated television/personal computer called the Internet AQUOS, they were hoping to entice the eyes of first-time computer users, traditionally an older demographic. But what’s caught the attention of experienced couch potatoes and experienced online surfers is the remote control that comes with the new AQUOS: it’s got a touchpad built on its control surface.

The alphanumeric keys eliminate the need for a keyboard and the touchpad does away with the mouse, so what you’re left with is a simplified, one-stop universal control to command your PC or TV. Another added benefit is that the redesigned interface has eliminated about 40% of the number of buttons so you won’t have to take a few minutes just to figure out finding which button to press to get picture-in-picture.

While the MS Vista OS Internet AQUOS specs won’t blow away any …
