Nextar’s MA809 PMP is thin, pricey |
The Nextar MA809 is a super skinny and sexy portable media player that measures just 0.25 inches thin. To put it in perspective, that’s almost half the iPhone 3G. It sports a 2.8-inch display (400 x 240 resolution), and an integrated voice recorder.
The Nextar MA809 also supports MP3/WMA audio files, JPEG/BMP/GIF picture files, and AVI video files. There’s also an FM radio in there. The 2GB model retails for around $100, while the 8GB version retails for $149. It will be available in the second quarter of 2009.

Iriver has made a name for itself with its range of portable media players, and now they have themselves a few new releases in the Dicple D35 and D31. Both models have a, shall we say, unusual design…
Philips has dropped a new range of super-compact PMPs, the Philips GoGear Spark. What a go-getter of a name. I can almost see some cartoon anime kid gripping the device and shouting PHILIPS…GOGEAR…SPARK in order to summon some demon. But other then that the name really doesn’t do much for me. It measures 41 x 41 x 15 mm and features an OLED display. The new PMPs are available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities, with optional FM tuners.
Chuwi of China has come up with a new portable media player that manages to stand out from the rest. In screen size at least. Their latest offering, the M20, is a pretty decent PMP, with a 4.3″ display.
Those looking for a new PMP inspired by iriver’s SPINN will be happy to know that MyRacer has launched the Iisse T10 PMP. In fact, one of the few differences is a curved appendage. The T10 will feature a 2.8-inch display with 320 x 240 resolution and support for most audio and video features.
The Ibiza Theatre is the first touchscreen player from the company that offers a cheaper alternative to Apple’s gadget line, but it surprisingly lacks Wi-Fi. Some features of the Ibiza Theatre include: 2.4″ 320 x 240 resolution display, Bluetooth, Integrated FM tuner, microSD memory card slot, Support for Real’s Rhapsody to Go service, Audible, MP3 and WMA audio support, and AVI and MPEG-4 video support.
Energy Sistem released the 4040 Touch portable media player. It comes with some high-end features like a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, built-in microphone, FM tuner, and supports most audio and video file formats.
Mintpad is interesting. It’s basically a tiny pocket screen that lets you pass notes, but in a digital way. It’s different from texting because the Mintpad is basically a tablet that lets you write on the screen with a stylus. Though it doesn’t recognize handwriting, it will send your original note to your friends via Wi-Fi. It doesn’t seem very minty, but what do I know?

The Oppo Muse Smart G11 portable media player sports a kind of surreal look since the design is a little unusual. But I like it. It reveals an old-style button configuration when the display is slid sideways, so yeah, it’s a PMP game emulator. No idea as to what it’s complete specs are, but we like it. We’re hoping it can play some old school 8-bit Mario and maybe some 16-bit classics.
Good old
