Nextar's MA809 PMP is thin, priceyThe Nextar MA809 is a super skinny and sexy portable media player that measures just 0.25 inches thin. To put it in perspective, that’s almost half the iPhone 3G. It sports a 2.8-inch display (400 x 240 resolution), and an integrated voice recorder.

The Nextar MA809 also supports MP3/WMA audio files, JPEG/BMP/GIF picture files, and AVI video files. There’s also an FM radio in there. The 2GB model retails for around $100, while the 8GB version retails for $149. It will be available in the second quarter of 2009.

Iriver Dicple D35 & D31

Iriver Dicple D35 & D31Iriver has made a name for itself with its range of portable media players, and now they have themselves a few new releases in the Dicple D35 and D31. Both models have a, shall we say, unusual design…

They seem to have become thicker than Doctor Phil on a twinkie binge, with a more prominent screen bezel. They feature DMB support, FM radio recording, handwriting recognition, touchscreen display and PIM functions to keep you organized. Right now it looks like Iriver will be keeping the D35 and D31 in Korea only, where they like thick devices.

Oracom A10 Portable Media PlayerCeBIT 2009 saw the unveiling of the A10 portable media player from Oracom. It will do just about all of the things that other PMPs can, but most of the functions can be controlled via the touchscreen display.

The device supports a wide range of various audio and video formats, line-in/FM/voice recording, text and voice memos and an integrated FM radio chipset with 50 pre-set stations and pre-scheduled recording support. We don’t know when this will be released or for how much, but its all ready to take its place as another run-of-the-mill PMP.

Philips GoGear Spark PMPs with OLED display

Posted in Portable Meda Players by Conner Flynn on March 5th, 2009

Philips GoGear Spark PMPs with OLED displayPhilips has dropped a new range of super-compact PMPs, the Philips GoGear Spark. What a go-getter of a name. I can almost see some cartoon anime kid gripping the device and shouting PHILIPS…GOGEAR…SPARK in order to summon some demon. But other then that the name really doesn’t do much for me. It measures 41 x 41 x 15 mm and features an OLED display. The new PMPs are available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities, with optional FM tuners.

The OLED display measures 1.46-inches and comes in at 128 x 128 resolution. The PMP itself will play MP3, WMA and WAV files together with displaying JPEG images, but there’s no video playback support. Are you surprised? Video on a 1.46 inch screen would have you wearing coke bottle glasses in no time.

Chuwi M20 PMP with 4.3″ displayChuwi of China has come up with a new portable media player that manages to stand out from the rest. In screen size at least. Their latest offering, the M20, is a pretty decent PMP, with a 4.3″ display.

Sadly, the resolution is a disappointing 480 x 272 pixels. It does sport 720p in case you want to carry around your high definition video files. No word on pricing, availability or other details. What you see above is a render.

Haier Ibiza Theatre PMP

Haier Ibiza Theatre PMPThe Ibiza Theatre is the first touchscreen player from the company that offers a cheaper alternative to Apple’s gadget line, but it surprisingly lacks Wi-Fi. Some features of the Ibiza Theatre include: 2.4″ 320 x 240 resolution display, Bluetooth, Integrated FM tuner, microSD memory card slot, Support for Real’s Rhapsody to Go service, Audible, MP3 and WMA audio support, and AVI and MPEG-4 video support.

Haier promises a 30-hour battery life, and we’re guessing that applies to audio playback and not video. The Ibiza Theatre should be shipping this spring in 8GB and 16GB flavors. They will retail for $110 and $130.

Mintpad: The digital way to pass notes

Mintpad: The digital way to pass notesMintpad is interesting. It’s basically a tiny pocket screen that lets you pass notes, but in a digital way. It’s different from texting because the Mintpad is basically a tablet that lets you write on the screen with a stylus. Though it doesn’t recognize handwriting, it will send your original note to your friends via Wi-Fi. It doesn’t seem very minty, but what do I know?

As you might expect, you can only send the notes to other Mintpad owners. That’s the downside. Aside from that interesting feature it’s a typical portable media player, Web browser, camera with 4GB of memory. Currently it’s only available in Korea for $156.

OPPO Smart G11 Muse introduced

OPPO Smart G11 Muse introducedThe Oppo Muse Smart G11 portable media player sports a kind of surreal look since the design is a little unusual. But I like it. It reveals an old-style button configuration when the display is slid sideways, so yeah, it’s a PMP game emulator. No idea as to what it’s complete specs are, but we like it. We’re hoping it can play some old school 8-bit Mario and maybe some 16-bit classics.
