Panasonic’s 150-inch plasma perspective

Pictured here, the ginormous TV is next to a real person and the huge Panasonic 103-inch plasma from CES last year.

Panasonic calls it the “Life Panel” and it has a resolution of 4 x 1080p (4k by 2k).

LG reveals 32-inch plasma television

LG 32PC5RVLG recently introduced to the global stage a smaller plasma television as it tries to target price-focused shoppers. The new 32PC5RV is available in Brazil right now and should hit other markets, including North America, in November.

The LG 32PC5RV sports a 32-inch plasma television designed to compete against 32-inch LCD televisions. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio screen and a 0.001ms response time. HDMI and component ports let one connect the flat panel display to a DVD player or home theater.

NEC upgrades professional plasma displays

NEC PlasmaSync Professional SeriesNEC today debuted a new line of professional level plasma displays for “corporate installations, including government agencies and digital signage applications.” (we imagine you could use them at home as well) The new PlasmaSync Professional Series is available in 42 to 60-inch models and priced between $2,500 and $6,000 approximately.

The NEC PlasmaSync Professional Series offer resolution up to 1366 x 768 and have an input panel with DVI with HDCP inputs as well as RS-232 input and output control. They also offer VESA standard hole patterns for easier mounting and can convert non-native resolution to the resolution of the display.

Shinoda Plasma Corp debuts 1mm plasma screen

Shinoda Plasma Corp 1mm thick plasma screenShinoda Plasma Corp recently unveiled a prototype plasma screen at CEATEC in Japan that threatens to make existing plasma screen technologies obsolete within 5 to 10 years. Tsutae Shinoda formerly of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and inventor of the PDP technology, and with his venture capital company Shinoda Plasma Corp, developed a new type of plasma screen at a near ethereal thickness of 1mm.

A 43 inch prototype screen was taken directly from the small laboratories at Shinoda Plasma Corp to the demonstration. Shinoda explained the new technology as a series of glass plasma tubes that contain RGB fluorescent materials, and demonstrated the flexibility of the new screen. Due to the screen’s flexibility, Shinoda anticipates using the display in places it has previously been difficult to house one suggesting ceiling mounted or even entire tunnel wall displays as examples.

Runco preparing to ship 103-inch plasma

Runco XP-103DHDThe desire to have the ultimate home theater room can sometimes overwhlem a budget, but for those with the cash the products exist to make your movie watching dreams come true. One product trying to fit this mold is the Runco CinemaWall XP-103DHD, a 103-inch 1080p plasma display recently announced which will be available in December for around $100,000.

The Runco XP-103DHD offers up 1920 x 1080 resolution as well as DVI with HDCP and RS-232 inputs. It also includes a DHD digital controller with inputs and switching that hosts an advanced digital video processor. This controller also offers high-end aspect ratio control and the ability to convert 4:3 video to the 16:9 of the display.

Panasonic debuts new PZ77 1080p plasmas

Panasonic PZ77 SeriesPanasonic is bringing some more relatively affordable 1080p HD plasma TVs to market, it was announced today. The company unveiled at 2007 CEDIA the PZ77 series, consisting of the TH-42PZ77 (42-inch) and the TH-50PZ77 (50-inch). These models will be available this month for around $1,800 and $2,800 respectively.

Both models offer more than two million pixels, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a contrast ratio of 10,000:1. Also built into them is a SD memory card slot, anti-glare screen coating, two HDMI inputs, two component video inputs and synching technology for controlling it and other Panasonic gear via one remote control.

Polk SurroundBar50 brings plasmas big sound

Polk Audio SurroundBar50Polk Audio today said it was adding a 51-inch model today to its SurroundBar family of single surround sound speakers. The SurroundBar50 will be priced at around $1100 and should be available in October.

The Polk Audio SurroundBar50 is designed to match the width of 50-inch plasmas and LCD TVs. It is a slim, front-mounted speaker which lets one enjoy surround sound without the need for additional speakers. This speaker uses special image enhancing technology to enhance and produce a large stereo soundfield from a two-channel source. It also offers new drivers, a crossover design and larger enclosure for better bass.
