Visomate tells your boss when you’ve been sleeping

Posted in Office Gadgets by Conner Flynn on September 25th, 2008

Visomate tells your boss when you’ve been sleepingSo you get into work in the morning and you immediately head for your spot under the desk, where you hope to pull a George Costanza and get some sleep. It’s worked so far. Suckers never check in on you. Little do you know, your boss had Visomate installed. Not good at all.

The device connects via USB and will detect when your posture is bad at your desk by keeping an eye on your eye level. If your posture slouches too much an alarm goes off, which you can silence, but you can’t stop the flashing lights. But come on, we all know that George Costanza can find a way to beat this machine. What does a guy need to do to get some shuteye at work?

Black and Decker Studio Shredders get styleEverything has to look stylish now, even the old shredder. The 5 Sheet Crosscut Studio Shredder from Black and Decker might actually look good in your home office and not immediately scream shredder. Looks like they would go well with certain Dell laptops. With a 4″ space saving, slim design you can put it anywhere.

It features sliding feet that stabilize it so it won’t fall over and die. Comes in the black and red. There is a cost to it’s slimness however. It only shreds 5 sheets of paper… Hmmm. Good for the slow or small office then. It retails for $49.99.

Tinkerbell works here: Fairy Office Lights

Tinkerbell works here: Fairy Office Lights
What is it about shiny things that draws people like a moth to the flame? I have no idea. But I do know that if you buy these Fairy Office Lights for your co-worker and string them around his cubicle when he’s not looking, fun insues. He will have to endure Tinkerbell jokes and all sorts of things that imply that he’s light in the loafers. Before you know it, someone brings a fairy wand into it. Pure fun at others expense.

On the other hand if you’re a woman or a genuine fairy decorating your laptop with tiny blue stars no one is going to say much. The string is 36” long and is $12.95.

80-inch Mitsubishi video wall cube oversees world domination

Posted in Office Gadgets by Nino Marchetti on March 18th, 2008

wall-cube.jpgI don’t know about you, but here at the SlipperyBrick “command and control center” we like our video wall cubes for monitoring world affairs. We are therefore quite ready to lay down some serious change for the new VS-80PH40U from Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi says the VS-80PH40U is designed for “large command and control centers,” which makes us wonder how well it would fit in around our one-room shack out in the sticks. You get out of this massive video cube 80-inches of viewing pleasure via 1400 x 1050 resolution and a “proprietary, high-powered projection engine to provide 190 cd/m2 of brightness.”

Personal microwave under 1 cubic foot

Posted in Kitchen, Office Gadgets by Darrin Olson on January 10th, 2008

Iwavecube personal microwave is less than a cubic footThis little Iwavecube personal microwave is pretty self-explanatory. It’s measures just 10.5″x12″x10″ so it doesn’t take up a lot of room, but you aren’t going to be putting a big microwaveable TV dinner in there either. Have one of these at your desk and you avoid trips to the break room, keeping up your introvert profile and avoiding awkward conversations while your waiting for your stuff to heat.

Unfortunately, unlike the USB Mini Fridge, USB power just doesn’t cut it for running the Iwavecube and it will require a standard outlet. And if your office is like ours and frowns on plugging in personal appliances at your desk, I can think of a number of other handy places for it like my TV room, home office, wet bar, in my car, etc.

Ultimate geek LED Christmas tree

Posted in LED, Office Gadgets by Reuben Drake on October 24th, 2007

Desktop LED Christmas tree is powered by a 9-volt battery and made out of circuit boardsWe geeks like Christmas just as much if not more than most people since its the time of year when our favorite gadgets, components and games all drop in price and we place specific orders with relatives hoping someone will give them to us. We also don’t mind getting into the holiday spirit but who wants a fluffy, cheesy-looking ornament or tree on their desk?

Luckily someone is thinking ahead for us and has come up with this Dekstop LED Christmas Tree to allow you to show off some holiday spirit without bringing your geek-ability into question. The LED Christmas tree has LED blinking, colored lights on it which are powered by a 9-volt battery. The battery also doubles as the stand and the branches to which the lights are attached are made to resemble circuit boards. The little 4-inch tall tree retails for just $9.95 and even comes with a battery.

iSharpener USB powered pencil sharpener is flashy

Posted in Office Gadgets, USB by Reuben Drake on October 19th, 2007

iSharpener USB pencil sharpener sharpens your pencil and displays flashy LED lightsAs far as USB gadgets go the iSharpener USB pencil sharpener could be considered one of the more practical ones. It actually has a practical use although I can’t remember the last time that I actually wrote anything with a pencil. The device of course is powered by your computers USB connection but if you’re all your ports happen to be occupied at the time your lead breaks it can be backed up by 4 AA batteries.

The iSharpener seems simple enough and personally I think it should have been called the iSharpen, but they did add a nice little “spin” to the device. Instead of just a boring old grinding noise while watching wooden shavings fall into the plastic bin, the makers added 3 colorful LED lights inside the light up when you’re sharpening! How’s that for adding excitement to your day?

Selector Mug encourages your anti-social behaviors

Posted in Office Gadgets by Reuben Drake on October 14th, 2007

Selector Mug lets you specifiy how you want your drinkEarly in the morning for a lot of people is the time they like to talk the least. Of course right away in the morning if someone is going to fill your drink or you bring your own mug to the coffee shop you’re forced to announce out exactly what you’d like and how you’d like it, probably more than once. While this probably isn’t a problem for some, for the many that would just rather not have to make their order with a smile every morning we have the Selector Mug.

This mug has three metal selector rings around it that let you make the visible selection of exactly what you would like without saying a word. The top ring has the common selections of hot chocolate, coffee, tea or herb tea. The second ring you can choose from milk, no milk, lemon or cream and the third ring has a selection from zero to 3 sugars.

rCard business card shows custom text, photos and video

Posted in Office Gadgets by Darrin Olson on October 13th, 2007

rCard from CEO IQ hold digital information including text, images and video and is the size of a business cardThe rCard is about the size of a thick business card at 3.6″ wide, 2.04″ tall and 4.3mm thick, but does a lot more than any business card we’ve ever seen. Companies have used credit card-shaped CD’s or branded thumb drives with data on them in the past to promote products and distribute marketing media but the rCard takes it a step further; probably a couple steps further.

It’s actually a little media player with a 2″ wide display and two buttons beside it for easy, intuitive navigation. Data consisting of digital text, photos, slideshows and even video can be uploaded to show off just about anything you would like, and can be added or updated straight from your computer through a USB connection right on the card. The internal battery is also recharged through the same cable and gives up to 2 hours of continuous use. Information can even be stored and time-released to allow companies to distribute information that won’t display until a pre-determined date in the future. Companies can also have the case shipped with a custom branded design for colors and logo.

Stapleless Stapler

Stapler that cuts and tucks a flap of the paper instead of using an actual stapleMost offices find it hard to go completely paperless, but with this stapler you can at least go stapleless, ridding yourself of the need to rip off the corner or remove the staple from your papers before throwing them in the handy blue paper-recycling trash can. Just think of the money you might save on staple removers alone?

The Staple Free Stapler quickly and efficiently cuts a little flap in up to 5 sheets of paper together, folding the flap over on itself …

USB desk lamp changes colors the faster you type

Posted in Lamps, Office Gadgets, USB by Reuben Drake on August 20th, 2007

USB desk lamp changes colors the faster your typeAlthough it makes me shudder every time, when I see this lamp I envision a multitude of these little things mounted on the walls of programmer cube farms so managers can make sure the keyboards are always going. Due to this I think this lamp is just a horrible invention. Of course, I’m sure it can be used for purposes of good as well, and with a little therapy I can probably get there.
