Jolicloud: A new OS that your netbook will love |
Check out that pic. This is an OS that could find it’s way onto your netbook very soon. Tariq Krim created this Jolicloud operating system, which is an OS designed specifically for netbooks. As we all know, netbooks are fitted with underpowered CPUs and not nearly enough RAM. That calls for a new kind of OS that will make things easier under those conditions.
Jolicloud is basically a modified version of Linux that will give you faster boot times compared to other Operating Systems, and as you might expect from the pic, it seems to be all about icon-based navigation. There isn’t a ton of info at the moment, but it looks promising.

Italy’s Olidata has announced it’s new Conte ultraportable, which targets 13.3-inch ultra-thin laptops. It looks like this one will be available in two different versions: One with a 16:10, 1280×800 display, and one with a 16:9, 1366×768 display. Each will come equipped with a small Core 2 Duo processor, optional built-in 3G or WiMAX, and a battery life that promises more than four hours (seven with an extended battery).

Here’s one for Bentley fans who have $20k to drop on a netbook. The Bentley Laptop by Ego Lifestyle goes all out for that luxurious look, with top quality leather and bold, shiny chrome exterior. I mean, you look at the thing and you want to drive it instead of boot it up. Inside it’s pretty average with an unnamed AMD 64 chipset, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive with a 12.1″ display. For $20k it should also sport wheels and double as an RC car, have a gas tank and come with a hot blonde.
The U120 will hit store shelves in November at $552 in both white and black. Some features include an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB memory and a 120GB hard drive loaded with Windows XP, plus a built-in 3.5G module. We’re not sure yet if the November date is worldwide or Asia only.
Packard Bell is trying to up it’s “street art” cred with the announcement of their latest power-packed gaming notebook called the iPower GX. It’s powered by a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9100 processor and has an nVidia 9800M GTS 1GB video card, 1,920 x 1,200 resolution display, Draft-N Wi-Fi connectivity, an optional Blu-ray drive and an interesting urban street art design. The Packard Bell iPower GX will be available this October for approximately 1499 Euros.

I think I’ve seen that somewhere before. Just not in the real world. It’s a fun and nerdy way to protect your laptop, holding up to 15.4 inches, inside. Others will recognize it and have a little chuckle as well.
