Opera Mini for Palm BlackberryOpera Mini, which launched in February 2006, has recently released new version of its mobile browser for use on the Palm Treo and BlackBerry mobile devices, with the intention of offering a clean “…no-frills, instant gateway to the World Wide Web on today’s basic line of mobile phones,” according to Rolf Assev who is the Chief Commercial Officer of Opera Software.

Opera Mini is a smaller and more simplified version of the standard Opera browser,and is supposed to offer faster page rendering while using less memory, which in turn means less minutes of air time for the plan subscriber. The mobile version has nothing less than Google as the default page for search. New Dell PowerEdge’s Have AMD Inside

Dell unveiled two PowerEdge servers at a press conference at Oracle Open World yesterday which both feature AMD Opteron processors. These processors are “SE” variations, which were previously only available in servers from Sun Microsystems. This is after a near 7-year hold that Intel had on the giant computer maker.

The first server that was introduced was the Dell PowerEdge 6950, which is a four-socket server designed for database software, server consolidation, along with similar uses. Dell states that the performance is is still at industry leading speeds while it can use up to 20 percent less power than similar previous-generation servers from Dell. The 6950 features quad Opterons running from 2.0 GHz to 2.8 GHz.

Blizzard Postpones Burning Crusade

World of WarcraftToday is a sad day for countless World of Warcraft players as Blizzard Entertainment announced that it will be pushing back the release date for The Burning Crusade, the eagerly anticipated expansion to the epic MMORPG. The Burning Crusade will be pushed back to January 2007 to give Blizzard additional time to further refine the new content that will ship with the game.

Intel Core 2 Duo Coming out in MacBooks

Intel Core 2 Duo Apple MacBookAfter some time of speculation, Apple announced today that its entire line of MacBook Pro laptops would now include faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors with 4MB of shared L2 cache, as well as double the memory and larger hard drives. Apple states that this increase in processing power will make the Macbook up to 39 percent faster than it’s previous generation 2.16 GHz MacBook Pro and more than 7 times faster than the 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4.

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing was quoted saying “We are thrilled that our notebook sales are growing twice as fast as the overall notebook market, and we hope these new MacBook Pro models continue that success”.

Sling Media to bring TV to Symbian Smartphones

Symbian and Sling MediaSling Media Inc. and Symbian Limited recently announced that the two companies are partnering to bring customers the SlingPlayer Mobile TV experience to Symbian-enabled smartphones.

The partnership involves Sling Media porting a version of its SlingPlayer Mobile software application to the Symbian OS in select European and Asian countries during the 4th quarter 2006 and ultimately to the U.S.

The SlingPlayer Mobile service on supported Symbian smartphones will give users access to their living room television to watch recorded shows, pause, and rewind live TV, or even queue new recordings. iPod VirusYes, I think the iPod is pretty cool, but we are talking about the more common use of the word “sick”.

Apple said yesterday that it had discovered that a some of its Video iPods shipped with a Windows virus on the player.

“Less than 1 percent” of the Video iPods sold after Sept. 12 were infected with the Windows RavMon.exe virus, Apple said.

“This known virus affects only Windows computers, and up to date anti-virus software which is included with most Windows computers should detect and remove it,” Apple said in a statement on it’s web site. “So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem. The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free. As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy …
