iRiver NV

Posted in GPS, Media Players, iRiver by Chris Weber on June 18th, 2007

iRiver NVThe new iRiver NV will be available for the Korean market soon and has just about everything you could want in a PMP. It sports a 7 inch LED display at 840 x 480, T-DMB television, GPS, FM transmitter, 1.3 megapixel camera, 2 SD card slots, a sexy remote control and supports playback of MP3, WMA, OGG, ASF, WMV, MPG, Xvid and H.264 file formats. The device doesn’t look to shabby, either.

The multiple SD card slots could possibly be for both storing media and storing map data separately, and there’s no reason the on-board digital camera could not geo-tag your photos, either. No word on price or if the iRiver NV is coming anyone’s way outside of Korea but this is certainly one to watch for.

Sony Ericsson W660 WalkmanSo you’re listening to the radio and hear a tune that you dig, but the station doesn’t tell you what the song’s title and artist are or you’ve got to switch off before finding out. Finally a solution has arrived from the engineers behind the Sony Ericsson W660 Walkman phone. Incorporating a feature called TrackID, the W660 can record a snippet of the tune, either via microphone or from the built-in FM radio, and then you can send it off to the Gracenote Mobile MusicID database. There someone will ID the track and relay back to your phone the name of the artist and album it’s from. Smooth!

The W660 stores up to 470 songs in eAAC+ format on the 512 MB that it comes with, but you can expand that up to 1 GB if you want more tunage. A 2.0 megapixel camera with …

Sony XDV-100

Posted in 1seg, Media Players, Sony, Television by Chetz on March 14th, 2007

Sony XDV-100 1seg TVJapan has had mobile digital television for almost a year now but it still hasn’t taken off due to technical obstacles, like poor carrier coverage and practically none on rapid speed transportation like Japan’s many train systems.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t prevented Japanese tech companies from bundling the 1seg service into just about every portable gadget they can think of, from cellphones to PMPs to GPS units. Now Sony wants to directly tackle the market by introducing the XDV-100 to consumers on April 10, hoping against hope that there’s still a market out there.

The screen is 2.8-inches wide and offers 320 x 340 rez, plus you also get a built-in AM/FM tuner, ear buds and a docking cradle for recharging for your 40,000 yen (about $330 of our Yankee bucks.) If the 1seg service can be beefed up …

BLU:sens G14 - PMP With Wide Open WiFi

Posted in BLU:sens, MP3, Media Players, Wi-Fi by Darrin Olson on January 29th, 2007

BLU:sens G14 MP3 player with wifi and allows sharing of songsBLU:sens is unveiling an MP3 player called the G14 which has some significant features that should bring it a little attention in the PMP world. What makes this player extra special is that the attention is not due to them copying someone else’s design.

The BLU:sens G14 supports WiFi and has no DRM. Individually these two items have their own significance, but combined they equate to wireless sharing of MP3 files between players without restrictions. This will no doubt catch the eye of the Microsoft Zune team, where the Zune only allows the sharing of approved record labels.

The overall look and additional features of the G14 aren’t too shabby either, as it supports Bluetooth along with the WiFi, as well as DivX, MP3, WMA and OGG and it sports a 2 inch 256K color display. …
