Creative Zen V Plus increases capacity to 16GBCreative has recently rolled out with another capacity increase with the Zen V Plus, this time bringing it up to a whopping 16GB of Flash memory. The player itself doesn’t appear to have changed but this increased storage brings this already impressive media player a little further up in the world with twice the storage space available in an iPod. Currently the Zen V Plus at its 16GB capacity is only available in the Singapore area and is retailing for about $260, but like the previous versions we hope to see it in the North America area soon.

The Zen V Plus also comes in capacities of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB and measures only 2.7 x 1.7 x 0.6 inches, which is similar to the size of a Tic Tacs container. With its small size it still manages to support …

Waterproof MP4 Video Player

Posted in Media Players, Waterproof by Reuben Drake on July 30th, 2007

Waterproof MP4 video playerWe’ve seen a number of waterproof MP3 players come across our desks but a waterproof video player has been a little harder to come by. Chinavasion now has a Waterproof MP4 player (for lack of a better name) on the way that allows you to watch your videos in the tub, pool, lake or any other body of water you would like and keeps the video playing up to 3 meters under.

The LCD is a little on the small side at 1.8″ with a resolution of only 128×128. But in an effort to keep our glass half-full, the modest 1GB of memory can probably hold a decent amount of video at this resolution. Not only can you watch underwater but the Waterproof video player also comes with waterproof earphones to listen, too.

It also comes packaged with an armband and neckstrap, and …

Samsung i85 Digital Camera / Media Player

Posted in Digital Cameras, Media Players, Samsung by Chris Weber on July 30th, 2007

Samsung i85 Digital Camer and media playerSamsung has launched the i85 digital camera marking the 3rd model they’ve put out that not only lets you view the photos you’ve taken but can play back music and video media. The Samsung i85 is an 8 megapixel shooter with a large 3″ LCD screen to view a variety of media files including WAV, MP3, MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and ASF, however you can’t transfer these files directly and play them.

You’ll need to do a little conversion using some included software before they’ll actually play on the camera. The screen to watch the media stays fixed unlike the i85’s predecessor, and you can listen to your media through built-in stereo speakers or a standard headphone jack.

The physical size of this camera is something to take note of as well. At only .8″ thick it packs in a 5x …

Hacha PC20 Looks Familiar

Posted in Media Players by Darrin Olson on July 29th, 2007

Hacha PC20There really isn’t too much information available about this latest mobile device from a Chinese company named Hacha, but it sure can hold its own compared to all the other iPhone copycats as of late. The super slim frame at 7.7mm and big 3 inch screen look great but we’d really like to know more about whats on the inside. The lack of buttons on the front lead us to believe it must be a touchscreen but we’ll just have to wait until Hacha makes an official release to find out more about the PC20. One more picture after the jump.

Tiny Kana SD MP3 Player

Posted in MP3, Media Players by Reuben Drake on July 24th, 2007

Kana SD MP3 player from Greenhouse JapanThese little MP3 players from Greenhouse Japan have a very familiar, iPod Shuffle-like look and feel to them with dimensions only slightly larger and a price tag that’s slightly smaller.

The Kansa SD MP3 player is about 2.2 inches at it’s widest point compared to the 1.62 inch width of the Shuffle. It has no display and has a similar circle-shaped navigation control on the front to run play, pause, volume and to go forward and back in tracks.

The player’s price tag is only $18 which is a great price for an MP3 player of this size but the catch is that it comes with no internal memory. In order to load and save any files you will need to get your own SD/SDHC card (up to 8GB) to keep all your media. This might be perceived as kind of a pain …

Sofmap Digital OliveNo, you’re not looking at the latest Tamagotchi or Transformers toy; this is a portable audio player called Digital Olive and from Sofmap. Motz Music Box (A Paper Box)

Posted in Media Players by Reuben Drake on July 9th, 2007

Motz Paper Music BoxMaybe they’re trying to go along with the open source movement or maybe they just ran out of creative ideas, but the folks that made this DAP decided to keep the situation simple and leave it up to the owners to put the player in whatever they want.

The Motz Music Box actual comes in a small stiff paper box with the player inside and has a controller and port protruding through some well-placed holes. On the bottom is a standard headphone jack that doubles as a USB connection adapter to transfer files onto the flimsy-looking device. On the back is a joystick type controller that moves the tracks forward and back and controls the volume by pressing up or down.

The music box houses 256MB of internal memory and supports MP3, OGG and WMA files. It measures a mere, not quite square 28mm x …

Zen Stone Plus

Posted in Creative, Media Players by Darrin Olson on June 20th, 2007

Zen Stone PlusIn only less than two months after Creative released the Zen Stone MP3 player, they’ve now come out with an updated version called the Zen Stone Plus with some nice upgrades that could just as well have been on the first version they released in May.

The Zen Stone Plus player doubles the memory capacity from 1 to 2GB, adds a simple but much appreciated blue 64×64 OLED display, a stopwatch, voice recording, a built-in FM tuner with up to 32 presets, support for MP3, WMA, and Audible and 9.5 hours of continuous playback. I guess that last one is a .5 hour downgrade from the first Zen Stone but that’s probably to be expected with the added display.

It comes in a variety of colors including black, white, pink, blue, red and green. Pricing runs a little over $99 which is also an upgrade …
