A refresh of Apple’s MacBook Pro, it certainly has good looks. What’s interesting is the multi-touch glass trackpad, which gets rid of a single mouse button and adds some new tricks, like app switching for instance. It’s also slimmed down quite a bit to just 0.95-inches thick, while being just a tad heavier then it’s predecessor at 5.5 pounds.

Under the hood is the fancy “brick” aluminum that helps Apple keep it thin and strong. It also makes room for all the stuff inside, like NVIDIA’s new 9400M GPU + chipset for integrated graphics, plus a 9600M GT switchable discreet graphics chip. You’ll also get an SSD option, with the drive accessible under the battery. The 15.4-inch base model has a retail price of $1999, with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and both GPUs. For $2499 and you get a faster CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 320GB HDD. The 17-inch MacBook Pro model has a similar configuration, without the redesign.

Chinese blog MacX has some interesting looking pics that they are alleging is the MacBook Pro casing. I guess nobody is going to know for sure until the MacBook 2008 event, but they appear to be the real deal and it fits with previous leaked images that have made their way around the web. The images are clear and don’t appear Photoshop-ish.

No one seems to know for sure if these are the real deal, but we might, just might be looking at Apple’s new MacBook. It’s hard to say what’s going on in the photos, but it looks like the back of a metal laptop lid and the inner panel of a display. And it says MacBook on it, which lends some credibility. The rumor has been that the next line of smaller laptops would be made from aluminum just like the bigger ones. Bottom line: There’s no way to know if these pics are real or fakery. We’ll be keeping an eye on it for you either way.

I’ve seen both love and hate toward some other MacBook Air cases, I guess it all depends on what your style is. This one is sure to please just because it’s different. Who knew that the MacBook Air could cut you? It’s not a laptop to be messed with. Piss it off and you’ll get an iCut. At least that’s what some whacky Germans are claiming. Supposedly “Apple Talk” reader Bajuware, was just hanging out minding his own business when his MBA went all bloodthirsty on his elbow.

It looks like it cut him good, like a convict with a shiv! Another German dude says that he can slice bread with his MBA. I don’t know if the MBA can actually seek vengeance on their human masters, but I like the idea that laptops can be multi-purpose tolls in the kitchen. They slice, they dice… I’m calling Ron Popeil. I have an idea.

Jobs and the Apple marketing team have been using a manila envelope to show off just how thin the new MacBook Air really is, but Belkin thinks it has a little bit better carrying case for the new notebook. The new MacBook Air Sleeves come in four different designs ranging from $39.99 to $49.99 that add only slightly more bulk than the Jobs’ envelope.

The sleeves are made from Neoprene and leather and include the Slim-Fit, which has no zippers or magnets, just a sleeve and a flap for $39.99. The Neoprene/Leather model does have an asymmetrical zipper for side or top loading of your MacBook and goes for $49.99. There is also a Vertical Sleeve model with a strap which is designed for use all by itself also for $29.99 along with the Expression Sleeve which also features a strap. The other Sleeves are tailored a little more to be carried inside another bag.

It looks like those MacBook Air rumors were really not too far off. Today Steve Jobs announced the latest addition to the MacBook lineup at MacWorld in San Francisco, touting it as the thinnest notebook in the world. The MacBook Air measures a mere 0.16 inches at its thinnest point, and it only gets as thick as 0.76 inches at the hinged end.

According to Wired magazine, a insider to Apple who works at a third party vendor to the company got the “skinny” on the new super-thin ultraportable MacBook that we’ve been hearing rumors about. The MacWorld 2008 keynote speech is just hours away and according to his source Jobs will be announcing a very thin, wireless Apple notebook dubbed the MacBook Air due to it’s like of wires. Supposedly it will have no Ethernet port and rely solely on WiFi. It also will not come with any type of optical CD/DVD drive and could look something like the photoshopped design shown here. There were not details given on actual dimensions, price or real specs but more than likely we’ll get the real scoop later this morning.
