T-Shirt wired for iPods runs on sucker power

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 8th, 2008

T-Shirt wired for iPodsI don’t know about you, but some iPod accessories just rub me the wrong way, are just plain annoying, not mention overpriced. Example: These iPod T-Shirts. They come in a variety of designs to appeal to both males and females of the species, but that really doesn’t help. I have no desire to part with my money at all.

Would you want to wear this? They just attached earbuds and a pocket to hold the device. They did go out of their way to be environmentally friendly though, since the shirts are made from cotton and bamboo. The $70 price tag is just too much for a crappy shirt.

Wireless Floating Speaker for your iPod
It’s that time of year when you are going to want to be in the pool and you’re going to want some tunes too. There’s no need to mount your iPod on an oversized raft, when a smaller more Roomba looking thing like this will do. And even though it’s easy enough to have a radio nearby, it’s always much cooler to have your music floating around with you.

iPod Lamps combine music, with a lamp…

iPod Lamps combine music, with a lamp…
Look at those silly iPod lamps all gathered together and having a great old time. All colorful and retro looking. They think they’re pretty special. I don’t have the heart to tell them that they offer nothing new. I mean, that would just be cruel. But, the thing is, they aren’t all that special. Sure, they’re retro looking, but get this. I’ve been listening to music with a lamp on at the same time for practically my whole life.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the colors, but I like you, already own a lamp. On the other hand, if lighting is something new for you and you want an iPod dock to go along with your foray into electricity, it retails for $150 and comes in white, pink, black and brown colors.

Pump up the volume during your next pool party, with this floating system. The waterproof Radioraft will have your tunes pumping and jumping a full 360 degrees with five speakers and a built-in ipod dock.

So, yeah, they basically took a bouy and put in some cup-holders and speakers. Oh, and an iPod dock. All for the outrageous price of $2000. Your pool party guests had better be paying at the door.

Goodman’s iPod boombox with 7-inch LCD display

Goodman’s iPod boombox with 7-inch LCD display
One thing is for sure, this is not your father’s boombox. It’s not a hulking chrome monstrosity with tons of buttons and levers, with a speaker on each side. If you’ve been waiting to buy an iPod sound system with some extravagance, you will likely love Goodmans’ latest.

Aside from the usual pair of speakers, it boasts a 3-in-1 multicard reader, LED accents, iPod dock and a bundled remote. The unit also includes an integrated 7-inch LCD display for showing off stored clips, photos, and the like. No word on exact resolution, so it’s probably not that great. Still, might be worth looking into for $178.

Kicker iKICK iK500 for iPod & iPhone
KICKER is expanding it’s audio lineup with the neat looking iKICK iK500. The portable stereo system features a built-in dock for the iPod (Touch) & iPhone. According to the company, “The iKICK will transform the way people listen to their MP3 players”.

It’s got large “bumping” speakers, 5-inch woofers, and a 40-watt stereo amplifier, so the iKICK iK500 should be loud enough to let everyone know where the party’s at. You also get a credit card-sized infrared remote, so you can adjust things like the stereo system’s bass, treble, and auxiliary-in options, as well as the iPod menu.

Optimus Prime Transformers iPod dock

Optimus Prime Transformers iPod dock
This is what you get when you combine two things that we have enough of, Transformers and iPod docks. But it does have far more personality then your typcal iPod dock. It features built-in speakers and can actually transform to and from a robot.

The trailer section of Optimus Prime is the dock. Sorry, Shuffle owners, the iPod Shuffle is not compatible with this system. It stands 6″ tall in robot mode and will kick the ass of any other iPod dock you leave it alone with. I think my only complaint would be the total lack of color. The iPod Transformer Dock will cost you $149.95 and is available from Amazon.

Factron Quattro Aluminum Case for iPod Nano

Factron Quattro Aluminum Case for iPod Nano
For those of you looking for the perfect case to protect your new iPod Nano in style, this one stands out from the crowd. No artwork or obscenely bright colors here, but the new shape is really appealing.

These Factron Quattro Aluminum Jackets are from Mizumori Ado and it they look sturdy. In fact the looks are so nice in an industrial sort of way, I almost want to drop the device on purpose just to see what happens. Unfortunately, these will be sold only in Japan and in extremely limited quantities.

iPod sound bubbler turns sound into bubbles

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on March 17th, 2008

iPod sound bubbler
Every now and then I swear I can spot which gadgets potheads are designing. Like this iPod sound bubbler. It looks alot like a bong. In fact, if Cheech and Chong were still making movies, this would probably be featured in some weird scene where their iPod got stuck to their bong, while they trip out about the bubbles matching the rhythm of the music. “Dude, look!”

It’s from Spi and features a column of bubbles that flow out according to the rhythm of the current track being played. Like a Lava lamp, you also get red, yellow and blue lights changing continuously to help create the mood. It works with more then just the iPod, being compatible with just about any other device with a 3.5mm audio output, like CD players and portable media players.

Kenwood AS-IP300 iPod dock

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 18th, 2008

Kenwood AS-IP300
Kenwood’s AS-IP300 iPod dock looks like it just came from Area 51, which is cool. Unfortunately, it also looks like it could be mounted on the wall and used as a clothes hanger. You can get a black version if you really want it to look like the Stealth bomber.

No word yet on when these will be in the states. The price is about $140. Dimensions are: 380×157x221mm at 1 kg (1.2) for this iPod dock and it comes equipped with a couple 1.9W speakers. I’m a little unsure about this one. On one hand, it’s cool, on the other it looks like it might have been put here to brainwash me and then fly up in the sky to meet it’s cohorts. Is that odd?

iPod electric guitar: play along with your favorites

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 14th, 2008

iPod electric guitar
When Guitar Hero and Rockband aren’t enough to satisfy your poser urges to emulate rock stars, this guitar will fill some sort of void in your life. It’s a 3/4-scale electric guitar that connects to your iPod or other MP3 players, allowing you to play along to the music thanks to the built-in 4-inch amplifier/speaker.

The guitar has a solid basswood body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. A truss rod allows you to adjust string action for easier chording. It also has precision machine heads and a single-coil pickup, volume control knob, and a standard 1/4″ output so it can be plugged into a standard amplifier if you like. For $199.95 you get a guitar strap, digital tuner, cables, plectrum, and carrying case. Includes a 9-volt battery that supposedly gives you six hours of operation.

Grace Digital Lars & Ivan Hybrid PA-40TiA company going by the name of Grace Digital recently announced some new iPod accessories being hawked under its Lars & Ivan brand. The one catching our eye the most is the Hybrid PA-40Ti, priced at around $450.

The Grace Digital Lars & Ivan Hybrid PA-40Ti is described by its maker as a “high performance” integrated iPod tube amplifier. It can serve as either a complete iPod speaker system or as standalone speakers attached to another audio system. Disguise your iPod as a vintage Walkman

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 3rd, 2008

iPod Walkman
iPods are one of the most common devices that thieves will steal easily if given half a chance. Therefore, it’s better to have it disguised as something else. And while you might look a little odd listening to your vintage 80’s walkman, no one will ever suspect that there’s a valuable iPod inside.

This clever iPod concealer has authentic looks right down to a see-through clear plastic front. Unfortunately you can’t get one of these for your own right now. This one the owner made himself. Ever think you would see an iPod in an old Walkman? I know I never thought I’d live to see the day. He gets points for originality. Who knows, this sort of thing may just revive that old 80’s walkman style, that seemed so cool back then.
