PlayStation iPhone case

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on July 1st, 2009

PlayStation iPhone caseWe’ve seen some awesome iPhone cases, but this may be one of best. Way better than the gameboy iPhone case and it beats the coacoa out of the chocolate iPhone case.

How cool is this handmade piece of geekery? The disc cover opens so you can put your iPhone inside. It even comes with a nicely detailed controller charm. It’s so adorable that it’s bound to make grown men weep.

GameBone Pro iPhone controller charges your iPhone while you play

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 23rd, 2009

GameBone Pro iPhone controller charges your iPhone while you playGame controllers have now gone to the dogs. But this stupid looking controller is actually pretty useful. It will charge your battery while you play, but the downside is that you have to have it plugged in to the iPhone 30-pin port. The GameBone can also be used via Bluetooth, but of course you can’t charge the iPhone wirelessly.

I have a feeling your dog will love it though. Sadly, it doesn’t even have any way to hold up the iPhone, so you’d have to prop it up, unless they ship it with a stand.

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 23rd, 2009

ColorWare custom colors for the Apple iPhone 3GSAs usual, you were likely underwhelmed by the color “options” of Apple’s newest iPhone, the iPhone 3GS. Nobody likes to be confined to just black and white. And as usual, ColorWare comes to the rescue.

Pricing for these custom colors will run you $150 for the back of the handset, $20 a piece for the bezel frame and button, and $15 for the SIM holder. Out of the kindness of their hearts they will also do your earbuds for an additional $15.

Apple rejects Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhoneCheck this out. A fully-functional, licensed Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhone. Pretty sweet. But sadly, Apple rejected the app “based on the SDK clause specifically prohibiting interpreted or executable code.” Lame.

The app would have played classic games and even run Commodore 64 BASIC. The full list of features are as follows: Full speed, Commodore 64 emulator, SID sound emulation, Auto-save, to continue exactly where you left off, Realistic joystick and beautifully crafted C64 keyboard, Portrait and Landscape play, Vertical and Fullscreen gaming (auto rotate for iPod users).

SlingPlayer for iPhone: $30, WiFi only

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on May 12th, 2009

SlingPlayer for iPhone: $30, WiFi onlyThe SlingPlayer app for iPhone will finally be available tomorrow. There has been a lot of discussion as whether or not AT&T (or other carriers) would let this bandwidth sucking app use their networks. Well, looks like the carriers had it their way and the Slingplayer app will work only with WIFI on iPhone.

If you want to use SlingPlayer on 3G, you’ll need a Blackberry or any other smartphone. AT&T complains that SlingPlayer would bring its wireless network down, while they’ve been trying to push their bandwidth-hog services like AT&T mobile TV. Which costs $30 per month. Thanks but no thanks.

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2009

iPhone case with a kickstandWe’ve covered our share of iPhone cases. Some are wood, some have a battery etc. But this thing here may just be the first iPhone case with a genuine kickstand.

Just like your bike, it will allow your iPhone to stand by itself. The iClooly clip stand can also be used to clip the phone comfortably on your clothing and will also serve as a handle for those who need a handle on their iPhone.

Handmade wood iPhone 3G cases

Handmade wood iPhone 3G casesLove Apple or hate them, I think we can all admit that the iPhone is one of the classiest looking phones. So why not class it up a bit more and add some sophistication in the form of a handmade wooden case? Etsy seller Substrat has created some really lovely cases. They’re all shaped and sanded to perfection and compliment your iPhone’s design. They will hold it snugly and keep it safe.

Sadly, you won’t be able to use any of the buttons. But that’s the price you pay for awesome looks. The price is about $84.99. These are probably the best wood iPhone cases we’ve seen yet.

iPhone apps for babies

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on April 12th, 2009

iPhone apps for babiesApparently there aren’t enough slobbering babies teething while biting down on an iPhone. That must be why a developer in Colorado created an iPhone app that caters to babies specifically. The iPhone Pacifier 1 application.

The app teaches kids aged 1-3 basic cognitive, vocabulary, and counting skills while keeping their attention with “stunning visual effects” and classical music. Hmmm. Sounds just like adults. The difficulty settings can be adjusted should you have a smarter than average baby.

Turn your iPhone into a document scanner

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2009

Turn your iPhone into a document scannerThis simple cardboard stand makes capturing document images with your iPhone super easy. Typically if you try to scan a document by holding your phone, what you will get is a blurry image. This is a simple and low-tech solution.

The stand/dock was created by University of Cincinnati DAAP student Kyle A Koch. It holds the phone and the document in the perfect position to get a good picture. Like all good cardboard things, it arrives to you flat packed for just $16. Not bad.

iPhoto finds a face in chocolate chip cookie dough

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on April 2nd, 2009

faceiPhoto’s face detection may be better then we thought. Who could blame it for pointing out an adorable face in this batch of unbaked cookies. After all it has ears, eyes, a nose and a mouth. It looks like a delicious mutant teddy bear.

It’s nice to know that iPhoto isn’t prejudiced against non-human faces. I think I also see one that looks like Winston Churchill. In fact many of them look like lumpy fleshy old men. What will iPhoto spot next?

iPhorest: Plant a tree from your iPhoneThis is a pretty neat application. It allows iPhone users to plant a virtual tree from their phone while simultaneously activating the planting of a real tree. Originally showcased at TED, the app is now available to the masses on iTunes.

The real trees are planted by the Conservation Fund, and they will begin with the restoration of a vulnerable wildlife habitat along the Gulf Coast. It’s sponsored by Ecolife Apparel, makers of cotton “green” underwear, and was developed by iPhactory.

Light writer iPhone app lets you write in thin airLED vision peripherals have been on the market for some time. ‘Light Writer - POV Effect’ from Laan labs allows you to write in thin air using your iPhone. A few thousand years ago you would have been hailed far and wide as a wizard. Today, people will be amused by such displays for about 5 minutes, before telling you to knock it off.

Just type in your message or select a piece of clipart, wave your arm in the air and do your thing. It’s available for $1 at the app store.
