If you are planning to buy yourself one of the cool new iPads that debuted this month when they start shipping, you probably have your eye on some accessories as well. BodyGuardz has announced that it is taking pre-orders on protective films for the iPad.

You can get different protective film packs that are designed to prevent scratches on the front and back of the iPad. The only downside to this film is that it won’t provide impact protection if you drop the iPad. The film is made from the same material that is used on the front of some cars as clear protection from rocks and dings.

The Apple iPad’s price has just been officially announced, complete with handy-dandy chart for those who love charts. Full pricing is as follows:

The 16GB, Wi-Fi-only version costs $500, while the 32GB version is $600. Lastly, the 64GB version will cost you $700. If you want to add 3G, the pricing increases by $130 on top of that. The Wi-Fi-only models will ship in 60 days, while 3G models will be shipping in 90 days.

The Apple iPad will come with two 3G data plans through AT&T. The first is just $30 a month with no contract. On this plan you can cancel at any time with no penalty, and use AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots for free. If that doesn’t sound good to you, maybe option number two is more to your liking.

The other plan is $15 for 250MB of data, also through AT&T. You can activate it directly from your iPad. That seems like a good deal, when you consider that a laptop plan will generally cost you $60 for unlimited data.

Basically iWork brings the office to your iPad. It’s a specialized version of iWork for the iPad tablet, which includes versions of the Pages, Numbers and Keynote applications. They will cost you $9.99 apiece and take full advantage of the tablets multitouch capabilities. It’s not all fun and games after all.

Keynote is iWork’s PowerPoint allowing you to create and view slides using multitouch. You can drag, resize and move elements around on a slide, even photos and text. Pages is iWork’s word processor. It allows you to scroll through text, select text with touch, etc.

Looks like the Kindle now has a worthy arch-enemy. Apple’s iPad has an ebook store called “iBooks”. (What else?) The publishers include all of the big players: Penguin, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Hachette.

Apparently the books won’t be cheap, which means publishers can stay in business longer. You can probably expect price wars very soon. The example book is a hefty $15. Interestingly, Apple is using ePub, which means books from other stores may work as well.

Here is some awesome news for those of you who have spent wayyy too much money on apps. You won’t have to worry. Those apps will work with the new iPad. So if you have the farting app, the iPad can fart too. Beer app, you still have beer. That simple. It will just be smaller and in the middle of the screen.

The iPad is able to handle “virtually every one of these apps, unmodified, right out of the box.” Like I said it will be smaller, or run full screen, in a lower resolution. Great news. I’m glad they didn’t screw everybody.

Here are the specs on Apple’s new tablet, the iPad. We’ve been waiting forever and we finally have the low-down. The device is .5 inches thin, weighs 1.5 pounds and sports a 9.7 inch IPS display with Full capacitive multitouch. The device is powered by “our own silicon”. The 1GHz Apple A4 chip. It’s available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities.

Some other specs include WiFi 802.11, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, accelerometer and compass, speaker, microphone, 30 pin connector and they have achieved 10 hours of battery life, with over a month of standby time.

Now it’s official and the name of Apple’s mystery tablet is indeed the iPad. Steve Jobs calls the device “very thin”. You can change the homescreen to whatever you want and of course you can browse the web with it. The device has new drop down menus in the mail interface and a large onscreen QWERTY.

Yes, the interface looks just like a huge iPhone. Some other features include the iTunes store built right in as well as YouTube, and YouTube in HD. The scrolling looks super smooth. Jobs casually browsed several sites to demo the device and then demoed email. If you want to send a message, you just hit compose and the keyboard pops up. The typing looks very responsive.
