The idea behind the Animated Tree Face is to attach it to your tree with the provided ties and let it entertain all of your friends. This thing looks like somebody cross-bred E.T. with a Chia pet. Your guests won’t know whether to be more scared of you or the Extra-Terrestrial that has taken your tree hostage. I just can’t see an enjoyable and delightful evening with this thing peering out at me, but to each his own.

The folks over at Retro Thing have recently done an impressive comparison of Apple’s iPod player and Lloyd’s V128 8-track player with some surprising similarities, despite the 40-year age gap between the two “white plastic music dynamos”.
This funny little USB peripheral called the Availabot is designed to work in conjunction with the instant messenger on your computer. It stands on a little marshmallow looking stand that connects via USB to your computer and gives you a physical representation of the availability of your friends on your IM application, laying flaccid when the contact is gone, and quickly standing upright when the contact is available.
This alternative design of an anglepoise lamp is a real working model displayed recently at the Aram Gallery in London entitled No Angle No Poise. It’s made out of rubber instead of the usually stiff metal parts and according to designer Tiago de Oliveira Martins de Fonseca, he was giving the lamp a little respite from its normally rigid lifestyle.
Check out this picture from earlier this year of what reportedly is a jet engine for a Chinese commercial airline. The jet stopped off at an airport in Germany just for fuel already looking like this. Apparently this engine, which wasn’t working anyway, had straps holding the fan blades from freely turning in the wind because it caused too much vibration during flight. What really tops this off is that these strategically placed straps are actually seat belts from inside the plane.
