The idea behind the Animated Tree Face is to attach it to your tree with the provided ties and let it entertain all of your friends. This thing looks like somebody cross-bred E.T. with a Chia pet. Your guests won’t know whether to be more scared of you or the Extra-Terrestrial that has taken your tree hostage. I just can’t see an enjoyable and delightful evening with this thing peering out at me, but to each his own.

Stanley, maker of all kinds of hand tools, has launched an funny, interactive website dedicated to the FatMax Xtreme FuBar utility bar, a mult-purpose tool made primarily for “breaking s#!%“, according to ToolMonger. To show off the tool’s destructive powers the site has some construction workers on hand that will use the FuBar to destroy objects that you select, allowing you to watch with the regular camera angle or through a dizzying helmet cam view.

If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly battery, urine luck. NoPoPo batteries are powered by urine. I can only assume that the name NoPoPo has to do with the fact that PoPo isn’t used, where as PeePee is.

Beer drinkers everywhere should never have to buy AA or AAA batteries again. Well, Duracells are more sanitary I suppose. The batteries come with a plastic pipette(like an eye dropper) that allows the user to inject urine into the battery chamber.

The folks over at Retro Thing have recently done an impressive comparison of Apple’s iPod player and Lloyd’s V128 8-track player with some surprising similarities, despite the 40-year age gap between the two “white plastic music dynamos”.

Some of points of comparison we found most interesting include the price of music between the two players. When you can get 8-tracks at a flea market for a dime-a-dozen it’s tough for iTunes to compete, even with a DRM. Both players also will display the current playing track, have a big round thing on the front and hold the distinctive white colored design we’ve all become all too familiar with.

This funny little USB peripheral called the Availabot is designed to work in conjunction with the instant messenger on your computer. It stands on a little marshmallow looking stand that connects via USB to your computer and gives you a physical representation of the availability of your friends on your IM application, laying flaccid when the contact is gone, and quickly standing upright when the contact is available.

The idea is pretty interesting (and funny) and the Availabots are completely customizable in the profile they store and in how they look. You can use as many of them at a time as you would like to dedicate a USB port for. The puppets currently work with iChat on Mac OS X 10.4 but the company has plans to extend them to other IM programs on the Mac and eventually Windows.

This alternative design of an anglepoise lamp is a real working model displayed recently at the Aram Gallery in London entitled No Angle No Poise. It’s made out of rubber instead of the usually stiff metal parts and according to designer Tiago de Oliveira Martins de Fonseca, he was giving the lamp a little respite from its normally rigid lifestyle.

“I thought I could give it a rest from its stiff vigilance,” de Oliveira Martins de Fonseca said in an email. “Most anglepoise lamps end up in the same position for months. We barely touch them.”

Check out this picture from earlier this year of what reportedly is a jet engine for a Chinese commercial airline. The jet stopped off at an airport in Germany just for fuel already looking like this. Apparently this engine, which wasn’t working anyway, had straps holding the fan blades from freely turning in the wind because it caused too much vibration during flight. What really tops this off is that these strategically placed straps are actually seat belts from inside the plane.

The Command Sit stool comes in colors of black or white with the word “sit” on the top (so you know what to do with it, I guess). What’s more is that these stools are even stackable, so you can have a bunch in the corner and pull them out when a clan of your equally geeky peers stop by to visit.

This picture of a kite shaped like a mouse pointer looks a little photo-choppy to me but made me laugh when I saw it either way….

Try the pronunciation of “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch” on for size. Imagine having to ask directions to this place in Wales. It probably makes more sense to the local Welsh speaking community and hails as the “longest officially recognised place name in the United Kingdom and one of the longest in the world”. The sign pictured has the pronunciation below the name for any english speaking individuals.

The name has 58 letters in it, or 51 letters if you’re using the Welsh alphabet.

Here’s something pretty interesting we stumbled on yesterday over at Wonderland. This Avatar Machine is actually designed as an art project inspired by World of Warcraft gaming, and consists of the game “player” dressed up in a complete avatar suit wearing a headset and a camera mounted behind them.

The setup allows the person wearing the suit to see a 3rd person perspective of themselves from the camera behind them, through a video screen mounted inside the headset. They can then walk around in real space viewing themselves as if in a game. Get a bunch of real-life people together playing a game with suits like this with the ability to toggle views might be pretty fun.
