The Pin Clock

Posted in Clocks, Home by Darrin Olson on November 21st, 2006

Pin ClockThis is a pretty novel idea for a “digital” clock. The Pin Clock looks a lot like that pin game you may have played with as a kid, where you can put the pins on your face and they take it’s shape.

In this case, the pins are pushed out or pulled in to take the shape of the numbers to represent the current time. As the minutes change, the pins make sounds as the move in and out like the old sound of time changes on the board at the train station. The web site states that you can “hear a pin clock”.

We saw this item at Uncommon Goods, and at the time of this post they are saying that pin clock is not only unavailable, but they are discontinuing them, so you may have to look around or check eBay for this time …

Message Plant Has Secret Message Branded On

Posted in Home by Darrin Olson on November 13th, 2006

Message PlantThis might be a stretch for a site about technology and gadgets, but I think this is pretty cool anyway. This is the Message Plant, and is basically a plant that you get shipped to you in a can as a seed. You grow it and a message that was somehow stamped onto it will appear.

The plants can be purchased and shipped for about $15, and once you get the plant and add water and some sun, it takes a little over a week and the plant will have grown enough for you to see the message. The message can consist of two lines (one above the other) and up to 10 characters each for a total of a 20 character message. You can even have logos or simple images put on the plant instead of text if you want to call in and …

It’s made out of some sort of foam or gel material, and you need to add water. There is no mechanical parts or electricity that keep it cool. You just insert it into your pillow case and it automagically draws heat away from your head and keeps it cool for hours.
