Cyber-Rain XCI: the internet sprinkler system

With the Cyber-Rain XCI, you can water your lawn the “Green” way. It will save you money and conserve water at the same time, by giving you control of your sprinkler system across eight zones. Through a wireless connection with your PC, it will make adjustments to it’s watering schedule, using weather data.

If it looks like it is going to rain, it will put a hold on it’s watering duties. It will even adapt it’s schedule as seasons change. Another bit of good news is that it is very affordable. You can add it to an existing irrigation system for only $295. At that price the system will pay for itself in no time. This is the kind of environment conscious technology we like to see. The Earth will thank you.

F1 lawn mower makes lawn care fun again

F1 lawn mower

Lawnmowers are one of those manly tools that have not really undergone much change over the years. The reason for this is simple. Depending on how you dress it up, you can either look really cool mowing the lawn with your concept mower, or you can look like a total tool. I think they got it right here.

You have to keep it looking like a powerful object after all. The F1 is obviously inspired by the F1 racer. It’s a concept design from Kadeg Boucher. And it’s not just a shell put over the engine. They went all out. It features a full race suspension, rear view mirrors, vintage John Player Special-style livery and a steering wheel with an LCD gauge display. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see geeks racing these things in the near future.

Betta Aquarium: cruel to fish – cool to see

Fish In Space

Here is a very cool looking retro Sci-Fi style aquarium called Fish In Space. It’s also very small for the poor fish. The thing is only powered by 2 button cell batteries for goodness sake. How would you like to be the fish whose life depended on 2 button cell batteries? It has glow in the dark stars that look neat in the night time. The UFO on top beams some cool lighting into the aquarium too. I bet the fish wishes that it would abduct it’s sorry scales out of there.

Still isn’t it every intelligent civilization’s goal to put fish into outer space? Well, after seeing the picture, I think we can all be convinced that it should be right at the top of the list.

Programmable food dish will be your pet’s best friend

Programmable food dish will be your pet’s best friendNot only will this programmable pet dish look cooler then the one you are using, it will also feed your pet up to four meals at programmable times, all by itself. Perfect for the pet owner on the go. Anyone who has been late getting home and feeling guilty that their pet will eat late, can now rest easy.

It operates with a simple digital programmable timer that opens the food tray at selected times. You record your voice, so that when the dish opens, your pet hears you calling it and then chows down. Your pet will think that you spend half your time as a disembodied voice, but that’s ok.

Make a rainbow indoors this Christmas

The Discovery Rainbow In My Room. The Discovery Rainbow In My Room makes a great gift if you want to steer your kid toward Science and away from say, Halo. Though I doubt most boys would appreciate this. It fits in more in a room filled with My Little Pony’s.

LED lights recreate the colors of a real rainbow and the motion-activated sensor turns the unit off with a wave of your hand.

Toilet Tunes for your bathroom soundtrack

Toilet Tunes bathroom soundtrack system.

If you are one of those people that feel they have to run the faucet to cover up your strange biological bathroom sounds, then you might want to order yourself Toilet Tunes. But to me, it just seems wrong, using potty time as an excuse to have your own personal party. You are there for business after all. It’s not a library either.

The gadget works via a sensor installed in the toilet lid that plays six musical choices when the lid is raised. The choices include rain, waves, jazz, latin, modern, and stream. Hang on guys, don’t start dancing and throwing off your aim just yet. There’s more.

Brew one cup of coffee in style with the WMF 1

Posted in Home by Darrin Olson on October 26th, 2007

WMF 1 Coffee Pad brews one cup of coffee at a time, in styleThe WMF 1 Coffee Pad is able to brew a single cup of coffee with a simple press of the only button on the machine. It comes with it’s own cup that integrates snuggly into the design and the tray is filled with a standard-sized coffee pad. Within a minute of pressing the button it will deliver a single freshly brewed cup.

There are of course a number of products on the market that can brew a single cup of coffee, or even two at a time but we’ve seen few that can match the simplistic style of the WMF 1. The coffee machine has even won a red dot award for its design at the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia this year.

Halo the UV germ killing vacuum

Posted in Health,Home,Vacuum by Conner Flynn on October 24th, 2007

The Halo line of UV vacuum cleanersNo, not a Halo inspired vacuum cleaner, with scenes from the game all over it. The Halo line of UV vacuum cleaners actually uses UV-C(a spectrum of ultraviolet light) to kill germs, dust mites, and bacteria that live in your carpet. This way, you won’t have to use harsh chemicals to have a cleaner living space. That’s good for you and the environment.

Of course it will still suck. Well, I hope it doesn’t suck. What I mean is, it will still suck up all the other filth in your carpet as well as zapping germs. Pretty interesting concept. This technology is apparently showing up in a lot of other new products as well. The war on filth just got some new artillery.

Honey can you move the fireplace?

Max Blank wood burning fireplace swivelsGerman designer Max Blank has a 21st century heating appliance that also serves as the center of your living room. This is the company’s Berlin model wood-burnings fireplace, a stand-alone unit that can sit anywhere you like in your dwelling. The gray finish with glass base compliments the Panasonic line of televisions so they have that going for owners of Panasonic home theater equipment.

There’s room for four shelves for you to display your knick knacks. Emissions and smoke are carried up the center pipe so all you’re limited to is where your chimney is located in the room. But the really stand-out feature of the Berlin fireplace is that the glass base can swivel a full 360-degrees allowing you the opportunity to face the fire no matter where you are in the room. Don’t move toward the fire, this time the fire can move to face you. Now where’s our swiveling bathtub?

Elektra espresso machines shine like bling

These Mini Verticale Elektra espresso makers are pure eye candy, and sport a beautiful steampunk design.Nothing wrong with mixing a little bling with your espresso. These Mini Verticale Elektra espresso makers are pure eye candy, and sport a beautiful steampunk design. The shiny caffeine demons will literally smack down every other appliance in your kitchen, and make them worship at their metal feet, just by their mere presence.

They are actually a scaled down version of the very large machines used in coffee houses and cafes in Europe. And though they might not be the most practical espresso maker you could have in your kitchen, they certainly make a statement. The Mini Verticale comes in metal, copper and brass finish.

Snowtone wastebasket concept has a top shaped to hold a magazineLiving in a cramped apartment where space is a premium? Is your washroom smaller than the phone booth Clark Kent changes in to become Superman? Then pray that Stephen Hauser’s latest addition to his Snowtone design collection comes to pass. It’s a chrome-plated wastebasket that has its top shaped into the visage of an open magazine, making it perfect and handy for those times that you, uh, need to read in the bathroom. You could take your Snowtone dustbin out of the bathroom and place it elsewhere in your abode but that kind of defeats the primary purpose of it, no?

Kone vacuums make a decorative statement

Kone vacuums are stylish and cone shaped

Most vacuums are big. Some are ugly. Many are big AND ugly. The Kone is neither. This cordless handheld vacuum is sleek and metallic, with a great modern look. In fact, one of the best things about it, is that it will go with just about anybody’s decor. Created by designer Karim Rashid, these have been selling for just over a year and getting good reviews. They originally sold for $60, but today you can get one for around $39.99. Comes in 5 colors. Not all appliances have to be eye soars.

Bathroom mirror windshield wiper

Bathroom Mirror Wiper cleans mirror of fog and gunk

I can see how this one might work very well. You’ve probably always wished you had a windshield wiper on your bathroom mirror. Something to defog and at the same time, clean the funk off. I know I have, but I am a lazy inventor. Which is why someone else will profit from this one.(again!)

This bathroom technology could not be simpler. The wiper blade is mounted in the upper left corner and it requires manual wiping to get the mirror clean. I know, they should have put a tiny motor in it, but it’s still cool. Like I said, simple.

Measuring the earth move

GraGraph measures earthquake tremors in your home and displays the size and has an alarmIf you live in an area prone to earthquakes and aren’t content with waiting to find out how big that last one you felt was then the GraGraph is for you. This device (which doubles as a clock with time/date) is like having your own seismology lab on your night table: when an earthquake happens the GraGraph will sound its alarm and display the intensity of the quake on the Richter scale.

Little tremors happen all the time that we don’t feel but the GraGraph will measure the tremor and display it for you. And should The Big One ever hit the gizmo will give you ideas about what you should be doing instead of standing there listening to it. Thankfully it’s small enough to scoop up as you make a dash for the safety of a doorway.

iRobot Looj is a gutter cleaning robotYou have to admit that cleaning out gutters on your house in not an enjoyable task, and how cool would it be if you had some remote controlled robot that would clean them out for you? Well, we can think of a lot of little chores that a remote controlled robot would be handy for but that doesn’t mean anyone is going to make them. That’s why we were a little surprised to see this new gadget join the ranks of the iRobot crew.
