Kenwood lets you have tunes with your toast

Kenwood Radio Toaster

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not crank up the radio and get your day started right. The retro Sci-Fi stylings of Kenwood’s radio/toaster will add some pizazz to your decor.

You might think that despite it’s good looks and presumably great sound, inside it’s just a few wires being heated up, like any other toaster. Nope. It has an electronic temperature sensor that monitors temperature and adjusts toast timing so you get consistent toasting, time after time. It’s nicely sized as well, measuring 11 x 8.7 x 6.3 inches

Sick Brick: ITC One entertainment super-machine

ITC One entertainment super-machineWe all want a single unit that has every form of entertainment in one box. SE2 Labs has an entertainment super-machine that tries to oblige, while looking like a mini-computer server. Design-wise, it’s looks are simply amazing. It’s called the ITC One and it boasts an Xbox 360, HD personal video recorder, surround-sound processor, ICEpower High End D-Class Amplifiers, 4.3-inch touchscreen, iPod dock, and remote control system all in a single unit.

The price for having so many goodies in one box? A whooping $19,900. Most people would prefer to get a rocking home theater system at that price. Or even buy a car. But if you like it’s design and the fact that it’s so compact, go for it.

CD and circuit board Christmas ornaments

CD and circuit board Christmas ornaments

I’ve got a ton of circuit boards taking up room in my closet. Partly because I’m a part-time artist and I have not figured out what to do with them yet. Partly because I like taking stuff apart. Apparently, some smarter people then myself have come up with a clever use for recycled circuit boards. CDs too. Christmas ornaments for a high tech looking tree.

Nigel’s Eco Store has filled up their shop with them for the holidays. The shininess of the CD and the glittering metal on the circuit boards should catch the light from any tree very nicely. They are only around $6 and come in all the shapes you would expect. Bells, trees, and stars.

Dirt Devil finds purpose in pet stains

Purpose for Pets Portable Extractor

Looks like Dirt Devil is at it again. You wouldn’t think that there was much room for improvement in vacuum design, but they have managed to come up with something new. A vacuum specifically designed for pet owners who have problem pets.

It’s called the Purpose for Pets Portable Extractor and it boasts that it can easily treat and remove pet stains. It does this with a 3″ scrub brush and blacklight LEDs, which illuminate the hidden pet stains, such as urine, so you can find the source of pet odor in your home and deal with it. It comes with two 8 oz. solutions of Dirt Devil Pet Stain and Odor Remover, as well as Dirt Devil Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner and Shampoo.

R2-D2 laundry basket robs droids of dignity

R2-D2 laundry basket

There’s been a slew of R2-D2 items to come onto the market recently. Some of which must leave the little droid sobbing electronically in a corner somewhere. I must admit, I had never before thought about putting my socks and shirts, not to mention my un-mentionables into an R2 unit. It just doesn’t seem proper to degrade a droid that way. That’s why I’m convinced that this laundry basket must have been made by Jawas.

These are Japan imports. You get a set of two. One classic blue R2-D2 and one red R2-D1. This way, you can sort all of your nastiness into light side and dark side piles, then throw them in, disgracing our favorite droid.

Christmas decorations sponge up the holiday Joy

Christmas decorations sponge up the holiday Joy

Leave it to the Japanese to make Christmas decorations and paper look like a thing of magic. Just put the bare framework with the folded paper attached into the petrie type dish and add water. After a few hours what you have are nicely detailed Christmas decorations that have sprung forth as if they were some intelligent and creative flowers.

Apparently these are a Japan only item for the moment, but they are so cool and intriguing that they have to come to the U.S. at some point in the near future. It’s kinda like a Chia Pet, without the gardening aspect. Now if they could only do this with real Christmas trees, that would make life alot easier. They even have a Valentine’s day version.

Infrared thermometer, no touch required

Kidz-Med Inc’s new thermometer called “Thermofocus”

You know the drill. There are really only two orifices where you can park a thermometer. One is slightly uncomfortable, the other completely unpleasant. Those days are now over thanks to Kidz-Med Inc’s new thermometer called “Thermofocus”. You can almost hear the collective sigh of relief from babies everywhere. The company claims that it is the first thermometer to take accurate body temperature readings without actually touching the body.

It does this by reading infrared heat from a person’s forehead, which yields results as accurate as the dreaded rectal thermometer, and more accurate than an ear thermometer. The Thermofocus doesn’t just take a human’s temperature. It can also be used to take the temperatures of baby formula, bath water, and even food.

Space Invaders alarm clock invades with style

Space Invaders alarm clock

Looking like some kind of Sci-Fi shuttlecraft or pod, the Space Invaders alarm clock is a great way to show off your love for retro gaming and wake up on time. It’s also an affordable geek gift for the holiday season at just $63.81.

I for one have always dreamed of having a room devoted entirely to retro gaming arcade goodness. This little clock is a perfect addition to my fantasies. In my dreams, it will wake me up at the perfect time so I can start off the day playing classic video games. Comes in white, blue and white, and sexy black. You can check out a cool video here.

Review: Kone & Kurv Dirt Devil hand vacs

Kone & Kurv Dirt Devil hand vacs

I’ll be reviewing both the Kone and the Kurv hand vacuums from Dirtdevil. These are Dirt Devil’s newer more stylish vacuums that don’t assault your decor, while remaining handy to clean up those messes. In fact, both the Kone and the Kurv perform that function very well. Unlike most small appliances, they actually fit into and become a part of your living space without screaming to the world, “Hey, I suck up filthy stuff.”

I was curious to find out which would perform better, so I divided my time between both units, back and forth. It’s worth noting that these are not intended to clean your whole carpet and replace your upright, or to suck up huge disastrous, nasty, sticky, toxic spills. And it’s not designed to be a full power shop vac. So, unto my impressions of both models.

Space Explorer lighting for the final frontier

Space Explorer overhead lighting

It’s getting easier to decorate that Sci-Fi or space themed decor these days. This Space Explorer lamp is for anyone who has ever dreamed of being an astronaut, young or old. I want one yesterday.

It’s got alot of detail with thruster lights and the required floating astronauts, along with what appears to be a space station. This is the perfect companion piece to that Starship Enterprise that you have hanging on your ceiling already. It will cost you $185. Money is no object when making your room a Sci-Fi Space scene. It’s basically one small step for astronauts and one giant leap for cool overhead lighting.

The Soladey Ionic no toothpaste toothbrush

The Soladey Ionic no toothpaste toothbrush

Now here’s an interesting new concept in dental care. Throw out the paste. Instead of using toothpaste, the Soladey Ionic Toothbrush uses energy created from light.(fluorescent tube, light bulb or the good old sun) It converts light into negative ions which when mixed with saliva and water can clean the bacteria from your teeth. This is all thanks to a titanium ionic conducting rod which creates the negative ions. It kills the bacteria and gets rid of bad breath.

I hear ya. What about that minty fresh feeling? Well, I suppose you could keep a tube of toothpaste around just to satisfy your strange craving. Or maybe they could make the bristles on this new brush have a minty flavor.

Evergreen DN-DRK72 repairs CDs & DVDs

Evergreen DN-DRK72

The Evergreen DN-DRK72 wants to repair your CDs and DVDs. Just put the disk in the device and it does all the work. The disc that comes out is supposedly as good as when you bought it. Let’s face it, some of us still use our discs from time to time and if it has been well loved, chances are it’s also full of scratches. We probably should take better care of our things, but thanks to devices like this, we don’t have to.

No word on pricing or availability yet. Also no word on how many times it could potentially repair a disc. I am assuming this works by filling in the the scratches using heat and liquid.

Shaken not stirred: Martini from a machine

Martini from a machine

Finally the bartender won’t care when James Bond walks up to the bar all suave and delivers his classic line, “Shaken not stirred”. The bartender will just mix the ingredients and put them in this machine, while Bond waits. This cocktail serving machine is called “The Perfect Temperature Martini Maker” and is billed as a digital appliance that can shake or stir its stainless steel tumbler “until it reaches the optimal drinking temperature of 34 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring perfect homemade martinis at the touch of a button.”

It’s still up to the human to mix the ingredients, so if anything does go wrong, you are solely to blame. The 20-oz. shaker gives you enough room to make two martinis.

Stripping weather girl digital weather station

Stripping weather girl digital weather station

You know those cable stations peppered around the globe where they have a stripping newswomen? Well, this is the digital weather version. A weather girl strips piece by piece to tell you the time, temperature and the humidity. Ok, she doesn’t really strip in the traditional sense. She changes her clothes depending on the weather. What a tease!(Both her and the manufacturer.)

If it’s hot enough, she’ll get down to just her bikini. No word on how she bundles up during the winter. The winter months would obviously be very un-stimulating for any guy that happens to be turned on by this digital diva.

Edge Tech 12″ digital picture frame with MP3 playerEDGE Tech Corp has a new 12″ digital picture frame coming to the market in time for the holidays with a competitive price in which they are touting as the most affordable 12″ frame currently available, priced at $129.95. The frame measures 13″ x 2″ x 10.5″ with a 12.1″ screen size putting out an 800×600 resolution of your favorite digital photos.

Like many digital picture frames, this one has a slideshow feature with transition effects between pictures, but unlike many picture frames it also has integrated speakers and can playback MP3 files right through the frame.
