Windows 3.1 for your home

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on August 19th, 2008

Windows 3.1 for your homeFeeling a tad nostalgic for Windows 3.1 after some Vista crashes? Then this is for you. It’s an actual Windows Window. Just gaze outside and relive the good old days of Bill Gates’ fortune and your old 286 PC. These conceptual window coverings give your home large Windows 3.1 screens. You’ll notice in the second picture, the guy is battling with the Blue Screen of Death via the scroll bar!

As far as we can tell these aren’t ready for production just yet, and that’s probably a good thing. Because I think most everyone prefers Windows XP. These would go great with the web 2.0 blinds.

Weight Seat for the extremely lazy who want to lose weight

Weight Seat for the extremely lazy who want to lose weight
This weight seat is great for those who have taken an interest in their weight, but not so much interest that they need to stand up and walk to the scale. Also great for eating meals and literally watching the pounds add up. It’s probably also good for video game players who don’t have the Wii, but think that their games can really get them in shape. Just sit on your butt, button-mash as you frag enemies and keep looking down. I’m sure you’ll see some results eventually. It was designed by Atypyk design studios and sadly I think it would be a real hit with many large mammals.

PowerPlus Pirana wind up shaver needs no batteries
Wind up gadgets are becoming more and more mainstream. Just look at the wind up remote. It’s about time too as there are so many gadgets that can benefit from being wound up and not needing batteries ever again. You save money and it’s good for the environment too.

Just crank it up and these devices are good to go. The internal dynamo generates enough electricity to keep th is shaver powered for a full shave. If you cannot be bothered winding it up then you can still charge it via a plug. This is also awesome when traveling since you’ll always be able to get rid of that five o’clock shadow.

The Beer utility belt: For a different kind of hero
It aint easy defending Gotham. And if super heroes existed in the real world, it would lead to some serious drinking. I mean these guys you’re doing battle with are demented. At the end of the night you just want a brew or four. This thing will hold a six-pack.

So after you park the batmobile and tuck Robin in, swap one utility belt for another and just forget your troubles. Alfred will wipe the drool from your chin and put you to bed after you pass out.

RC sweeper mop makes cleaning fun
Over at Evil Mad Scientist there is an easy DIY project that will make cleaning fun and better yet, it might encourage your slacker kids to help out a little. Hit the link if you want to see how simple it is.

Basically an unprinted circuit board is attached to an RC car of your choice which is used to mount a dust mop. After that it’s just cleaning and play. This has to be dirt cheap to produce in a factory. Remote controlled cleaning would sell a bunch of cleaning supplies. They got everyone to buy swiffers after all. Check out the video below.

Hard Drive Wind Chimes – video powered by Metacafe
I love the sound of the wind hitting my data in the morning. Here’s a great project that will take care of all those old hard drives you have laying around the house, while prettying up the outdoors with tech. And it doesn’t look half bad either. Kinda futuristic and modern.

You won’t need any mad skills in the DIY department since you are just taking hard drives apart. When you’re done you can relax and admire your work as you try to figure out what to do with your other 50 drives.

GIN & TITONIC: Maritime disaster in your glass
Iceberg dead ahead! Duh. The Titanic will always hit the iceberg when they share the same glass. You won’t need Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Winslet to relive the adventure when you tie one on. You get 4 ocean liners and 4 icebergs. Just add gin and you’ve got the lowest priced blockbuster ever filmed. The best part? No Celine Dion, just a crackling, sinking and rapidly melting ship.

Batman:The Dark Knight Joker Poker Set
Ever since the movie opened on Friday it’s been Dark Knight mania. As we all know, the Joker is the real star of the movie. That’s probably why he has his own Poker set now. No doubt inspired by his real Poker set, which he uses every Friday night when it’s Poker night in Gotham for he and his cohorts.

You get 54 prop replica Joker cards, a second 54 card deck defaced by the Joker, Joker-themed 100 piece chip set and black aluminum carrying case. Just don’t go so far as to paint your face like the Joker or they may haul you off to Arkham Asylum. It will cost you $84 and is available for pre-order.

Blinds with web 2.0 logos

Blinds with web 2.0 logosNets2go has a new set of 9 custom-made wood blinds, but they’re not the kind you find in home decor stores. They feature Web 2.0 logos. You can get them in Google flavor, Firefox, YouTube, Digg, Stumbleupon, Facebook, even Wordpress. Just be warned, being this geeky could cost you your marriage.

In fact, these blinds have an interesting story. Net2go manufactured the entire set for a customer who separated from his wife a couple of weeks after installing these blinds, because “She doesn’t understand the intense geek in me”. Maybe he should have added match.com into the mix.

CrazyForts gives the blanket fort an upgrade

CrazyForts give the blanket fort an upgradeBeing a kid is awesome. That’s why, even now I refuse to grow up. And one of the coolest things about being a kid is making blanket forts. This often involves tons of blankets and the tearing up of a livingroom while you create a skeletal structure for your fort which you can then cover with blankets.

Well, thanks to CrazyForts fort building just got easier AND more high-tech. It’s basically a series of balls and sticks that can be connected to create simple or elaborate structures. Then just cover it all up. Simply awesome.

Pimp your crib with custom chandeliers
Looking for something huge, shiny and just oozing with that kinda classiness that can only come from things you saw on MTV’s cribs? I think I found it for ya. Nothing says class like giant chandeliers shaped like a handgun, AK-47, Skull and cross-bones and even a giant spider.

These are the handiwork of a company called Rock and Royal from The Netherlands. They’ve been creating custom chandeliers for people with too much money since 2005. Since the work is all custom, you’ll have to contact them directly for any pricing you want to know about. What are you still doing here? Go check them out. These go hand in hand with your gold teeth and chest bling.

Handsome Man Bank for lonely Japanese women

Handsome Man Bank for lonely Japanese women
Apparently all the good and handsome men are taken in Japan. I guess that’s why Japan’s women are finding romance with this virtual man called the “Handsome Man Bank”.

It comes in girl-friendly pink or white, with an LCD display that will show 5 handsome men. It costs about $50 and he’s a player alright. A real smooth guy with lines like “Can I kiss you?” or “May I rub your shoulders?” But at the end of the day he’s all talk, leaving some longing and needful Japanese women all hot and bothered. Should have come with another accessory for this phase I guess.
