Sennheiser offers relief to call centers everywhere

Posted in Headsets by Reuben Drake on January 28th, 2008

Seinnheiser SH 300 headsetAnyone that’s spent an entire day on the phone with their hands on a keyboard knows that a good headset is worth its weight in at least some type of precious metal to make your day easier. The Sennheiser SH 300 headset is not wireless, there’s no Bluetooth and it’s got a mono-speaker, but on the upside its cord will likely fit into the port that the current crappy headset you’re using at work is plugged into now.

The SH 300 works for right or left head mounting, doesn’t mess up your ‘do and has some noise cancellation technology to block out all the others in the cube around you, giving a much more peaceful conversation for you and the party on the other end. The microphone also gives excellent sound quality to help cut down on all the “whats” generated by poor headsets.

Philips SHB9000 wireles Bluetooth headphonesPhilips has a new headset announced at CES last week that promises to bring quality sound from your mobile music-playing handsets as well as clear calls through a wireless Bluetooth connection. The SHB9000 Bluetooth headset features 40mm neodymium speakers and native MP3 decoding which according to Philips makes the sound quality the “best-ever”.

Be that as it may, the headphones also have SwitchStream letting you switch between incoming calls and music seamlessly, and also offer a subtle “side-tone” that lets you hear your own voice while talking on the phone as you would normally without wearing headphones. If you’ve ever talked on the phone while wearing over-the-ear headphones like these you’ll appreciate this feature. They also will auto adjust the volume based on surrounding noise and filter out background noises and echoes.

Bang & Olufsen announce EarSet 3 stereo headset

Bang & Olufsen have announced their EarSet 3, as a “unique mobile accessory” pairing music headphones and a phone headset in a single device. They bridge your cell phone headset and MP3 player earphones in one. I know, that doesn’t seem very unique, but what are you gonna do? The company’s first stereo headset with a built-in microphone is compatible with the Apple iPhone.

The 1.09 oz set has been developed to closely match the contours and curves of each ear, ensuring that no sound escapes. The ear buds include foam rubber covers and should stay firmly and comfortably in place.

Joby Zivio headset with retractable “boom”

Posted in Bluetooth, CES 2008, Headsets by Darrin Olson on January 7th, 2008

Joby Zivio Bluetooth headsetWhile most Bluetooth headsets we’ve seen lately are concerned with being discrete and then coming up with elaborate technology to focus on only noise from your moth, Joby is coming out with a new model that helps state the obvious when you are on a call. The new Zivio Bluetooth headset is being showcased by Joby at this year’s CES in Las Vegas this week, and features a long antenna like “boom” with a microphone at the end.

The headset is still relatively small at 13 grams and a length of 53.5mm, but with the microphone extended it more than doubles the overall length bringing it up to 137mm. The headset will continue to work with the microphone boom retracted, but when you receive a call and extend the telephone operator-like mic, it will improve your voice clarity and help drown out other background noise, not to mention leave those around you in no doubt that you are taking a call.

iqua 603 Sun solar powered headsetEveryone is thinking of new ways to reduce our energy consumption needs with renewable sources of power. Solar technology is one of the cleanest of these new forms of energy since all of the power comes from sunlight and there are zero emissions. Who complains about the sun being too noisy or creating smog? There has been solar powered cars, homes, ships and even flashlights but until now there has never been a solar powered mobile phone headset.

British-based phone retailer Orange has unveiled the world’s first ever solar powered Bluetooth headset called the Iqua 603 Sun. If you’re exposed to the sun the cells on the top of the headset will keep it fully charged for all your talking needs. If you work indoors or in the dark a fully charged battery will give you nine hours of talk time or 200 hours in standby mode. The solar cells are sensitive enough to pick up indirect sunlight as well which will boost your talk time to 12 hours. The volume control is on the side and just one button will let you answer or end a call or redial a number.

Review: Sound ID SM100 EarModule Bluetooth headset

Posted in Bluetooth, Headsets, Review by Darrin Olson on November 4th, 2007

SM100 EarModule Bluetooth headset from Sound IDOver the past week we’ve had the opportunity to try out Sound ID’s SM100 EarModule Bluetooth headset which resulted in a unanimous vote of “impressed” from those of us who spent some time with it. The headset seems pretty cool from its looks alone but there are also some less visible features that add to the uniqueness and value of the SM100. We tested the headset with the Motorola MOTOSLVR and the new Motorola MOTOROKR Z6m which were both very easy to connect.

For starters, and one of the most important things we watch for in these devices, is the general size and comfort. If you find yourself wanting a wireless headset its probably because you spend a fair amount of time talking on the phone and the last thing you need is something that’s too uncomfortable to wear for those multiple and long conversations. The comfort was not an issue for us with the SM100, and in fact after a few hours of wearing it I found myself once even having to check with my hand to see if it was in my ear. The headset measures about 1.75 inches by 1.0 inch by 1.2 inches and weighs only 0.4 ounces.

There are also three-sizes of soft silicon fittings to provide a more cozy fit.

Samsung Brings Quarter-Sized Headset to the US

Posted in Bluetooth, Headsets, Samsung by Darrin Olson on September 13th, 2007

Samsung WEP500 Bluetooth headset is no larger than a quarterSamsung has a very small-sized Bluetooth headset now available in the US market, measuring only about the diameter of a quarter and 7.7mm thick. The WEP500 headset uses wireless Bluetooth to connect to a mobile phone and provide hands free convenience through a headset that’s less noticeable than most.

The WEP500 advertises only 3.5 hours of talk time and 80 hours of standby which implies that Samsung might have skimped on battery to keep the device small. It also comes with a small hard case to keep the device in, which think is probably the coolest part of the whole product. The new Bluetooth headset retails for $119.
