Resistance 2 for PS3 Launches

Posted in FPS, Games by Shane McGlaun on November 5th, 2008

Resistance 2I own all three major video game consoles and I use them on occasion. I still much prefer the PC for my gaming, and especially for gaming on FPS titles. I played the original Resistance: Fall of Man game on the PS3 and it was a cool game; I just didn’t like the controls.

Sony has announced that the follow-up to Resistance: Fall of Man is now available exclusively for the Sony PS3. The game was developed by Insomniac Games and is the firm’s fourth PS3 exclusive. Resistance 2 expands on the original game with larger environments, multiplayer action and more.

Crysis Warhead launches this week

Posted in FPS, Games by Shane McGlaun on September 17th, 2008

Crysis WarheadI am a huge fan of PC gaming, not that I don’t do my share of console gaming. If a title is available on multiple platforms though, I prefer it on PC. Recently the number of exclusive PC titles has been very slim, but EA and Crytek are changing that with one doozy of a PC exclusive.

EA and Crytek announced today that Crysis Warhead will be available in retail stores on September 18 as a PC exclusive. Crysis Warhead marks the second installment in the Crysis universe and the first game was tons of fun. As fantastic as the graphics in the original Crysis were, Crytek promises even more this time around.

Blizzard confirms new MMO in development

Posted in Blizzard Entertainment, MMORPG, News by Chetz on December 14th, 2007

blizzard-logo.jpgEarlier this year Blizzard Entertainment, the makers of the world’s most popular MMO game “World of Warcraft”, sent their fans into overdrive by announcing that a new game project would be revealed at a Korean “Starcraft” gaming convention. This lead to much speculation that the game would be a new MMO, possibly even a “Starcraft” themed massive multiplayer game. Job postings by Blizzard looking for programmers for a next gen MMO only helped to fuel the fire but when the day arrived the mystery game in question turned out to simply be “Starcraft II”.

Now that several months have slipped by and the hype has dissipated it appears that a Blizzard representative has confirmed that there is a secret MMO game in development at the company. In a discussion thread on the Blizzard forums about the merger between Activision and Vivendi (which owns Blizzard) a Blizzard rep let loose the first official comment about the rumored MMO by saying “It is an unannounced next-gen MMO and that doesn’t mean an expansion for World of Warcraft either.”

FigurePrintsFormer Microsoft Game Studios VP Ed Fries sees dollar signs when he thinks about World of Warcraft. The reason? He’s partnered with WoW publisher Blizzard Entertainment to create 3D statues of individual characters played in the game.

Fries’ new service, called FigurePrints, is a premium service which will run gamers around $100. The service uses 3D modeling techniques developed by professionals to model your character as seen in the World of Warcraft game. You can tell FigurePrints what gear you want your statue outfitted in and it will, after ordering, appear at your door in a protective glass dome.

Halo 3 Expected to Make $200 Million in 24 Hours

Halo 3 from Microsoft and is expected to net a lot of moneyHow much money is Microsoft expecting to make from “Halo 3“? The highly anticipated final chapter in the best-selling “Halo” gaming franchise arrives on game shelves a week from today and everyone knows that it’s going to be a sellout, but really, how much is it going to earn for the big M?

According to Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian “Halo 3″ could stand to make for its owners $200 million dollars alone on launch day and establish a new record for the best-selling video game ever. The current champion is Blizzard’s “World of Warcraft” expansion pack “The Burning Crusade” which came out early this year. In its first 24 hours in release 2.4 million copies of “Burning Crusade” were sold to players inhabiting Azeroth. There are no records as to how many bags of Cheetos or cans of Mountain Dew were consumed on that day but we’re guessing that share holders of those two companies were as pleased as their Microsoft counterparts.

Each faction harvests the Tiberium as a resource, then constructs buildings, vehicles and weapons. The game has both single-player campaigns for GDI and Nod as well as supports multiplayer.
