Another new digital camera…we know. This time around Olympus brought us word this week of the Olympus SP-570 UZ, priced at around $500. The company notes this particular model for its 20x, wide-angle optical zoom (26-520mm equivalent).

The SP-570UZ, besides the optical zoom, offers up an impressive 10-megapixels coupled with a f2.8-4.5 lens. You get a bevy of advanced features with this particular Olympus model, including a 2.7-inch LCD with anti-glare, dual image stabilization, face detection, shadow adjustment and full manual control.

Fujifilm showcased this week, among other digital cameras, a new addition to its F-Series line up. This new one is the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd, priced at around $380.

The Fujifilm FinePix F100fd is a 12-megapixel shooter outfitted with a Fujinon 5.0x wide angle optical zoom lens and a 2.7″ wide angle view LCD. Chief among the features of this model, said Fujifilm, is “Wide Dynamic Range, Dual Image Stabilization, Face Detection 3.0 Technology with an Automatic Red Eye Removal function and ISO settings of up to an unprecedented ISO 12800.”

Olympus this week unveiled a trio of new Stylus compact digital cameras which it says offer dual image stabilization, 2.7-inch LCDs and a feature called “Perfect Shot Preview.” These models are the Stylus 840, Stylus 1010 and Stylus 1020 and pricing will range between about $250 and $350.

Perfect Shot Preview, as described by Olympus, “enables users to preview and select various photographic effects on a live, multi-window screen before snapping the shot.” The Stylus 1010 and 1020 will both offer 10-megapixels of shooting ability, with the Stylus 840 chiming in at 8-megapixels.

Among other cameras Sony released this week it was showing off a new line of colorful W-series Cyber-shots for the consumer crowd. The W-series will price between about $200 and $300.

Models of the W-series will include the 10.1-megapixel DSC-W170 and 8.1-megapixel DSC-W150, both with Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lenses, and the 8.1-megapixel DSC-W130 models and 7.2-megapixel DSC-W120 units with 4x optical zoom and 2.5 inch LCD screens.

Colors on these models will range from pink to blue to gold and red. Availability is slated for between now and April, again depending upon the model. Check out the full Sony press release after the jump for all the details.

Fujifilm was showing off this week its most advanced SLR styled digital camera to date. It is called the Fujifilm FinePix S100FS and pricing is set around $800.

The Fujifilm FinePix S100FS is a 11-megapixel shooter with a 14.3x Fujinon manual zoom lens, 2.5-inch tiltable LCD screen and ISO capabilities up to ISO 6400. Featured technologies on this prosumer SLR include dual image stabilization, face detection with red eye removal and film simulation modes.

Fujifilm is another company showing off this week some new digital cameras. One of these, for those prosumers out there, is the SLR-like Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd. It is priced at around $400.

The Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd offers up a 10-megapixel experience and is outfitted with a “Fujinon 18x Wide Angle Optical Zoom fixed lens, which offers a 27mm-486mm equivalent.” It is a sealed, fixed lens system to keep out dust as well as perhaps helping to cut price. Major features include enhanced face detection technology, dual image stabilization and a 2.5-inch wide LCD display.

Canon is introducing this week a new entry level digital SLR to its popular line of EOS Rebel digital cameras. It is called the Canon EOS Rebel XSi and pricing is set at around $800 for a body only kit and $900 for a lens kit which includes the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens.

The Rebel Xsi is a 12.2-megapixel shooter which Canon has dressed up with “an improved autofocus sensor, enhanced 14-bit A/D conversion, an advanced Live View function, and the proprietary DIGIC III image processor.” Canon has also newly designed this camera’s CMOS sensor.

Now that General Imaging has a year under its belt the company is more than doubling the lineup of digital cameras offering nine new models this year at PMA 2008. This brings the total count to 15 giving more options in features and pricing with the familiar GE branding.

All the new models being launched this year house some handy features for the novice shooter. Smile detection is something that will come standard, pausing just a moment after pressing the button until it recognizes some smiles, provided those that you are shooting at practice some modern oral hygiene. Since the cameras can’t predict a blink and stopping people from blinking makes the photos look a little less life-like, there is also an included feature that will alert the operator after the photo’s been taken of any subjects with their eyes closed. Face detection, the ability to “stitch” together photos for panoramic pictures inside the camera and red-eye removal all goes without saying, as well.

LG launched the Viewty in Europe just less than three months ago back in November and has already sold more than 550,000 of these camera/phone combos since. After some research the folks at LG have come to the conclusion that having just a single color available for the Viewty just isn’t enough and today they are announcing that they’ll be bringing a number of new color choices to market starting with this Dark Silver model. Aside from the new color the mobile device is basically the same aside from an improved jog wheel to make navigation just a little easier.

The LG Viewty is a mobile phone combined with a 5.0 megapixel camera, 3-inch touch screen display, image stabilization, auto focus, 120 frames per second video recording and a built in media player not to mention the ability to make and receive calls.

Pentax today announced a new flagship to their line of digital SLR cameras with the Pentax K20D. This new model builds on the popular K10D with an array of improvements including 14.6 effective megapixels, a large 2.7″ display, a finer JPEG format, and Live View giving the full image area in the display. The K20D even has an improved Dust Reduction system with a feature called Dust Alert, which not only informs the photographer of the presence of dust particles but will also pinpoint their exact location.

Some other highlights of the K20D that might interest the experienced photographer include a new CMOS sensor to take better advantage of the interchangeable lenses, weather and dust resistant body, Shake Reduction system and a sync socket to connect the camera to a PC for integrating with studio lighting.

Another new digital camera unveiled by Sony is a family focused model for parents looking to document their kids smearing paint on the walls for later in life blackmailing. It is called the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 and price is set at around $300.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10, which will be available in May in two body colors, ships as an eight-megapixel model with a Carl Zeiss 10x optical zoom lens. Sony has made this camera somewhat compact (4-1/4-inches wide by 2-3/4-inches tall by 2-inches deep) and enhanced its features with face detection technology which can focus on up to eight guilty faces in a frame.

Sony unveiled a number of new digital cameras for the consumer market this week. One of these is a compact, high megapixel shooter called the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300. It is priced at around $400.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300, available in three body colors this March, sports a 10.1-megapixel ability. Almost more interesting than that though is the 3.5-inch, 16:9 widescreen touch display on the backside and also new “intelligent” scene recognition technology which Sony says “allows the camera to analyze shooting conditions and automatically select the optimal settings for the best photo results.”

Panasonic is unveilng this week a new entry level digital camera designed for those who seek “advanced, yet easy-to-use settings.” The camera is called the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LS80 and it is priced at around $150.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LS80 is an eight-megapixel model using a newly developed LUMIX DC VARIO lens system. It offers up 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, auto ISO settings and quicker auto focus.

Any fans of the rugged Olympus Stylus models will be happy to hear that they’ve giving the Stylus 720 SW an upgrade with a couple new models. The 10.1 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1030 SW is the tougher of the two and comes encased in an all-metal chassis with the ability to withstand drops from 6.6 feet.

Not only can the 1030 take a hit but its frame can withstand 220 pounds of pressure. It’s also rated as waterproof for taking photos underwater at up to 33 feet below the surface and can stand cold of down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit (remember that water freezes at 32).

Skooba Design has unveiled a shoulder strap for cameras and binoculars which acts as a shock absorber to minimize carrying discomfort. It’s called the Skooba Superbungee Shoulder Strap and pricing is set at around $20.

Skooba says its new straps have a “sport-tuned suspension system” which consists of a floating bungee cord ring. It is this ring which acts as the absorber. Also built into the straps on the wearer side of the shoulder pad is “a flexible strip of individual, air-filled cells. The cells add to the shock absorption and comfort, and are covered in a friction laminate to help prevent slipping.”
