Apple triBook concept: the future of MacBooks?

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 10th, 2008

Apple triBook concept: the future of MacBooks? This is of course just a concept, but one can easily see the benefits. It actually looks pretty darn beautiful. Three screens in one with a trackpad the same size as the keyboard. The concept uses the aluminum hardware of Apple’s new laser-cut “brick” technology to provide rigidity and strength to the attached displays screens of the 21-inch triBook.

It’s got an 8x SuperDrive, a few I/O connectors, a high-quality hard drive and a CPU similarly to the MacBook. I’m guessing the screens fold into the main screen without scratching themselves somehow or they detach. Pretty sweet design. Let’s hope Apple is paying attention. I don’t know about the huge trackpad though.

Ultra slim Digit MP3 player concept

Ultra slim Digit MP3 player conceptLisbon based Portuguese designer Nuno Teixeira designed this ultra slim Digit MP3 Player concept. It’s user friendly and comes with a wireless stereo headset and 20GB of built-in memory. Design-wise it’s a thing of beauty. And it does away with wires completely.

Just look at those sleek curves and soft, shiny surfaces. Plus it’s slimmer then a model who just went to powder her nose and lose her dinner. It’s damn sexy, that’s what it is. Too bad it’s only a concept right now. But it will happen soon enough as the wireless headset thing is already here. We just need more of this kinda sexy.

Knob Light sounds dirty, puts a light bulb on your door

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2008

Knob Light sounds dirty, puts a light bulb on your doorHey, why not? Your door knob is already bulb shaped and that is where you enter a room from. Designer Jeong-Sun Park’s Knob Light has an internal generator that stores energy to light it up during emergencies.

Emergencies like waking up in the middle of the night and having to go pee-pee, apparently. I’m guessing that turning the knob will generate some power as kinetic energy, but I don’t see this as a great idea. Is it always on? If so, that’s a waste. If it simply stores power and has to be manually activated, that’s not going to help much in an emergency.

Phillips head speakers don’t require a giant screwdriver

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2008

Phillips head speakers don’t require a giant screwdriverI don’t ask a lot from my speakers. They just need to produce a decent amount of sound quality and look nice really. I mean, I don’t expect them to be flat and look like they require a giant phillips head screwdriver to power them up. Anyhow, that’s what these babies look like.

They’re Kwangjo Lee’s Affordable Computer Speakers. They look pretty awesome, with great sound output. Your friends can hook into it for listening as well. It’s a neat idea, with an awesome design, but alas, its a concept at the moment. Lee has included Four mini speakers + a Woofer in the set and designed it flat, so that it would be easy to carry.

The most badass snowmobile you will ever see

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2008

The most badass snowmobile you will ever seeHave a look at the sneer on this thing’s face. Yes, it’s so badass it has it’s own mean face. A face that will scare all but the bravest from climbing on and taking a ride, immediately sorting the poseurs from the rugged manly men. It’s a concept snowmobile from Dominic Shindler and you can color us impressed. The design is aggressive and intimidating while standing still.

It sports huge, wide tracks in front and skis in the rear. It’s basically a snowmobile on steroids that looks nothing like the typical winter off-road machines. It even sports a place for your skis in case you want to enjoy the next hill.

Natural Year Phone for stoners

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2008

Natural Year Phone for stonersThis concept takes green to a whole new insane level. The Natural Year Phone concept from designer Je-Hyun Kim makes sense since most of us replace our cellphones at least every two-years or so. A phone constructed mostly of all natural material like hay would certainly be Earth Friendly.

That natural material just happens to look a lot like pot. You may also notice that a piece has been broken off. No doubt destined for the bowl of some homemade pipe. All I can say is that if you want to use this phone, don’t leave it laying around anywhere near your stoner friends.

Webcam equipped headphones put eyes over your ears

Webcam equipped headphones put eyes over your earsSeems like we have webcams in everything these days. They’re in everything and they are everywhere. It must have occurred to someone that the one place they missed was our ears. Which is a strange place for webcams, as we usually use them for other’s faces.

That’s what makes this so odd. This headphone/webcam combo will show you everything that is on your side. Maybe designer Andy Kurovets is just really paranoid. Maybe he has enemies that use his blind spots to their advantage. But chances are he just wanted to look like some fashion forward Sci-Fi dude.

JukeBrick Portable Audio concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 4th, 2008

JukeBrick Portable Audio conceptThe JukeBrick is a concept that aims to revolutionize portable music, you know should it ever actually exist. It’s a portable audio player, it also doubles as a performer as well. You see, when JukeBricks get together, they each become individual performers, and you are can listen to individual instruments or even vocals since sound sources can be identified via Music 2.0 technology.

Connecting two or more JukeBricks will extend the screen size, add speakers and you have 3-way or even 4-way channel surround sound speakers. It may just take this kind of radical thinking to put the iPod in it’s place one day.

New Mac Mini concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 2nd, 2008

New Mac Mini conceptDesigner Sait Alanyali is a proud Mac Mini user. So proud that he designed his own. One of the problems he has with the current machine are the I/O ports. It’s a hassle to plug things in and take them out. Hence the “V” shape. It puts the ports within reach while keeping cables tidy. The shape also comes in handy by improving cooling as air moves freely through the heatsink.

Hard drives are hot swappable with a 2.5″ hd installed and an empty slot to use any way you like. It also features an HDMI port and does away with the power brick because this one has it built inside. Another new feature is the embedded logo display. It sports a sensor inside that detects it’s orientation, so that the logo is always facing up.

Motorola concept phone has a masculine Hello Kitty form

Motorola concept phone has a masculine Hello Kitty formThis concept Motorola handset likes like a kick-ass robot Hello Kitty demon that has arisen from the ashes of it’s own hell-fire. It’s here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. It’s all out of bubble gum.

Take this Hello Kitty fans. This thing will kick your thing’s ass. It will eat Hello Kitty, poop her out and repeat the process all over again. It features a very limited button selection, camera, color screen, and hiding feature. It’s the “Cute Phone!”. I don’t know about that, but it’s pretty damn freaky. And I hope to God it can help rid our world of Hello Kitty. Pray with me.

Save electricity with dying flowers

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 30th, 2008

Save electricity with dying flowersSaving electricity in the home is a good thing. We all benefit. Cutting back on the power you waste can save plenty of money on the electric bill too. But we’re only human and could use a little reminder sometimes. A reminder that isn’t some treehugger starring in a PSA on TV.

The Wilting Flower from English designer Carl Smith will remind you. It’s a little known fact that people pay more attention to a flower then they do to a preaching hippie. Plus, the flower looks like it’s bathed. This little wilting flower changes from blue, to red, to yellow, to purple, then turns off, as our power demands increase. But as it changes, the petals slowly close and the flower keels over in its vase. In other words, you are a murdering bastard and it hopes you feel bad.

Dell XPS Baton PC concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 25th, 2008

Dell XPS Baton PC conceptThis is a concept we’d really like to see realized. It looks amazing. The basic idea is that a baton contains two roll out and flexible screens. The OLED screens roll up in the baton for easy transport. When they are pulled out an electrical charge is sent down the screen, making them rigid and usable as a laptop screen and keyboard that we all know so well.

Just want to use an eBook? Then just roll out one screen. If you want to work from a desk you can just leave the screens rolled up and dock the baton on a docking station which attaches to a regular screen and keyboard.

A skinny phone concept for tight jeans

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 25th, 2008

A skinny phone concept for tight jeansIs that a cell phone in your pocket or are you just a mutant and very happy to see me? Your jeans can get pretty tight, which means that the bulge of your cellphone sticks out quite a bit. If you can even get your phone in your jeans. Designer David Turpin of France has come up with this Skinny Phone concept that should help.

It slides sideways to reveal a QWERTY keypad, but other then that we don’t have any detailed specs. It’s just a slim dream at the moment for all of you who have to grease yourselves up to get your pants on. Even if it existed, battery life would leave a lot to be desired.

Art Lebedev dreams up Luxofor traffic lights

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 23rd, 2008

Art Lebedev dreams up Luxofor traffic lightsArt Lebedev Studios has introduced it’s Luxofor traffic light prototype, with square lenses that are lit up by superbright diodes to make it them more visible to drivers and pedestrians. As usual, a million of you have slapped your head and asked “Why didn’t I think of that?”

The square light fills up the same space taken up by a round lens more completely. It’s just a concept right now, but the Art Lebedev team wants to cooperation with road safety councils and local authorities to improve and design road markings and signs. What will the team think of next?

STC Livebox Router concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 20th, 2008

STC Livebox Router conceptThis innovative router design by Franco Marino Cagnina, developed for Saudi Telecom, will have your router sitting pretty, literally. The STC Livebox doubles as an elegant tech-flower vase.

The device features Wireless internet, Voice over IP, land line telephone and wired DSL. With it’s unique design, the STC Router bridges the gap between lifestyle and technology. Martha Stewart would call it a good thing. Women especially will appreciate the decor aspect of what otherwise would be just another piece of tech that clashes with the furniture.
