We’ve perfected the art of excellent sound and HD movies in our Home Movie Theaters. But something is missing. A sense of smell. If you can smell it, you are there. That’s where SMELLIT comes in. Imagine watching a chef make a pizza and being able to smell every detail, like you could also taste it. You could watch some Cheech and Chong movies and get a contact high.

SMELLIT works just like your printer, but ink cartridges are replaced with smell cartridges. As your DVD or Blu-ray player reads the video and sound information, SMELLIT processes the same DVD, but the ”smell CARD” decodes the smell information from 10 to 20 seconds* ahead of the actual scene so the odors have time to hit you. After information is read, the cartridge vaporizes a very small amount of “smell gel”, and the central fan distributes the smell in all directions. It can be loaded with up to 118 cartridges, each with a different “smell gel”.

At the 1970 World Expo in Osaka, Sanyo demonstrated their vision for the future by showcasing some of the appliances they thought would make it into the home of the future. One such device was this crazy Ultrasonic Bath, a pod-like womb-thing designed to clean, massage and dry humans in just 15-minutes.

The user would climb into an opening on top via a ladder. Then just set the temperature desired water temperature and the pre-rinse cycle starts, spraying the user with jets of hot water for 5 minutes. Crazy. Might as well put some clothes in there with you. Check out a video below.

In the old days you just rang a bell and your servant would arrive to do your bidding. That’s kind of what this Digital Butler concept is all about. It will run on advanced 4G networks, with GPS to give you details on everything, like all the hip goings on in town etc. The circular design makes it easy to navigate with a touch screen display.

There’s also an accelerometer, a PDA phone feature, built-in LED projector and full-time network connection to all kinds of VIP services. It should probably be attached to a wheelchair so it can drive your lazy butt to all the hip spots. And it would have to be connected to all of your robots so they can run your errands.

Perfect for those romantic candelit dinners, it’s Lightware- the LED lit cutlery. This silverware features a silver head and an engraved crystal body, sure to add to the ambience of any darkly lit dining experience.

They have a small LED powered by a watch battery at the bottom. The electronic part can be removed for washing, because otherwise things would just get gross. Your fork will still stab, but now you will be able to see what you are stabbing. If these don’t impress your date, try the Lego cutlery. At least with those you can join her fork to yours and say something sappy.

This interesting concept comes from designer Billy May. The OLED Blackberry is a combination of a Blackberry 7130 and an Optimus Keyboard. This OLED Blackberry was designed for the Mozilla Phone project, and obviously it takes the best of both devices and creates this stunning concept seen above.

The OLED keys, just like on the Optimus Keyboard can be programmed and change their look. It looks stunning and the minute you see it, you realize that you are looking at a device that has some actual richness of personality and could provide a richer experience.

Some concepts are so pie in the sky out there all you can do is shake your head, while others are downright realistic. We’ll leave it up to you to figure out which category this one falls into. I think we can all agree that we’d love to see this one happen asap.

Some specs include: Titanium and Glass, OLED screen, 3G, GPS, Front camera for iChat, Removable battery, 3.2 Megapixel camera, Video, 32 GB. As long as we’re talking fantasy here, why not a projector or at least a slide out extender that enlarges the screen.

This shark tea infuser makes it look like somebody just got chomped by a great white as it colors the water your favorite blood-colored tea. You may be tempted to stick your finger in and tempt fate, but don’t take the chance.

It’s a concept, but one that will likely be realized, what with the popularity of Shark fin ice cubes in cold drinks. Do people really love a Shark fin in their drink? Apparently so. Earl Grey never looked so dangerous.

Notebooks don’t have to just flip open and be one half keyboard, one half display. Designer Patrick Dotimas developed a concept known as the Asus Stealth, a personal computer that functions as a laptop or a desktop based on its application.

The second half can be removed for a traditional desktop layout, or can fold out like a normal notebook. So it gives you the best of both worlds. It’s a great idea and the timing is right in the marketplace, so we hope to see this one surface as a reality real soon.

This one is a great device for the adventurer, whether you are on the high seas, trekking through swampland, or in the jungle. Bear Grylls will definitely want to get one of these. It’s called the Weather Mate and comes from designer Samuel Jones. It’s an emergency weather radio that will automatically notify you of a flood, high winds, storms, tornadoes and other weather conditions that can potentially harm you.

The device is easy-to-navigate and though it looks alien, features a 6-LED flashlight, a full spectrum of NOAA weather frequencies, LCD Screen, circuit board, radio receiver and a speaker. It can be powered by a battery or it can run off of the dynamo by winding the rear crank handle.

Here’s a great conversation piece that any photographer should appreciate. Even non-photographers will want to keep track of the date with this Camera Lens Calendar. It beats those boring paper calendars. Just adjust the focus rings until the current day and date are aligned.

It’s from the mind of designer Sharad Haksar and believe it or not it’s already headed to stores, but there’s no info on price. I’m sure it will be a hit. Then he can make one that’s powered and snaps pics for visual reminders that you need on a calendar. It could display such pics on the camera side of the lens.

Rumors of an Apple Netbook aside, we still don’t have one and likely will not for a good while. So designer Isamu Sanada decided to take it upon himself to try his hand at designing one. Obviously it has Apple good looks and portability. But it’s not quite there yet.

When folded, the MacBook Mini would measure 5.4-inches thick. Wow. That’s too thick. But the design is interesting. When fully expanded, the laptop will give you a keyboard, trackpad, 10-inch LED display, and 128GB SSD. Looks like there’s no optical drive either. And I would hope that the trackpad, cool as the design is, would fold under as well as over, because as it is, it’s going to get in the way.

You have your iPhone, iMac and your iPod, but you’re really looking forward to the next iProduct. What we have here is a car that’s based on the popular brand. The iMo. This little pod of a car consists of very few parts, making it a simple and reliable mode of geek transport.

It’s powered by electricity and charges itself through a socket at the back or by using electric induction from the floor, when available. It even boasts an artificial intelligence system, soft wheel and soft seat technology, even Segway gyroscopic technology, which is why you only see two wheels. The parts are fully recyclable as well.

Wireless speakers are great. They eliminate wires, which is always a plus. Who wants to look at wires? So what you’re left with are just the speakers. Well, thanks to this concept, the speakers will no longer be seen either. Why not build speakers right into your light bulbs? Two devices, become one.

The SoundBulb is a wireless speaker inside a functioning LED light bulb. No speakers, no wires. Just sound and light. It cuts it down to basics. Bluetooth gives them the ability to stream audio from most computers or cellphones. You could control the volume by twisting the bulb’s outer ring, while the on/off switch for the wireless receiver is on the side. The speakers get power directly from the socket.

Here’s a concept design you don’t see everyday. The Music Drop Player is an average MP3 player, with one difference. It uses a projector instead of a small screen as a display. This way if you want to see the track info, just push a button and project the info on a wall.

The projector would be bright enough to show on almost any surface like walls, tables, or even your own hand when you’re traveling. Oddly, it displays the information in a spiral pattern that forces the user to turn their hand around or tilt their head just to read all the info. With this device, you would get an on/off switch and iPod-style buttons for skipping tracks, rewinding, fast-forwarding, and volume control.

This Apple Keyboard concept makes a lot of sense. It features all the necessary keys required in a Mac OS X environment and has an induction charge and synchronize segment on the right side that will hold your iPhone or iPod. The keyboard also has six programmable OLED keys.

It may not exist in the real world, but that didn’t stop the designer from giving it a price of $79.99. Too bad, it is only a concept, price or no. Apple fans would love this design and seeing a spot for the iPhone next to a keyboard makes me wonder why Apple hasn’t done it yet. Seems like a natural fit.
