Homemade Scrabble keyboard

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on January 18th, 2009

Homemade Scrabble keyboardSomeone loves Scrabble a whole bunch and by creating this awesomely nerdy keyboard, they must have scored themselves a quadruple word score. It’s a wood and brushed aluminum keyboard that features real Scrabble tiles. The points score is slightly edited to show each key’s secondary function.

Everyone knows Scrabble and this is an awesome mod that looks like it could have come straight out of the game box. It’s a USB keyboard and the aluminum accents will very nicely match the Mac that it will be paired with.

Smartfish Pro prevents carpal tunnel by adjusting itself

Smartfish Pro prevents carpal tunnel by adjusting itselfTyping on the computer all day can lead to some problems. And I’m not talking lack of sleep and a steady diet of Hot Pockets. I’m talking carpal tunnel syndrome. Between comments on Facebook, twitter, gaming and commenting here at the ‘Brick, we are all just one keystroke away from carpal tunnel at any given time. The Smartfish Pro is designed to help prevent it rather then causing it.

Yeah, we’ve heard it all before. There are all kinds of ergonomic gadgets on the market and most seem like they don’t do jack. There’s even an ergonomic mouse or five. The Smartfish Pro actually has a chance of helping the problem and standing out from the crowd. That’s because it is outfitted with motors that slightly shift the keyboards angle throughout the entire day. This may actually help with repetitive stress injuries.

Klingon Language Keyboard let’s you type with honor

Klingon Language Keyboard let’s you type with honorYou own the dictionary. You speak the language. Sadly, you’ve even tried to pick up women using the Klingon tongue. Unsuccessfully of course. But until now, you have not been able to type with a Klingon keyboard. Well, Cherry Keyboards’ Klingon Language keyboard has your back. All it needs is a PS/2 port and a willing nerd. You’re good to go.

They were able to keep it looking like regular keyboards thanks to the fact that the Klingon alphabet has 26 characters, the same as the English language. Now you can pretend to be a Klingon ALL the time, not just at the conventions. Just don’t sit in front of it all day long typing Klingon love letters and death threats, or else your fake armor isn’t going to fit over your gut anymore.

Eee keyboard: A touchscreen Home Theater PCLast week we had a look at Asus’ HTPC keyboard concept, but now we’ve got some specs to go along with it. The only thing we don’t know about are pricing and availability. The keyboard boasts a 5-inch built-in display, a 1.6 GHz Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB SSD, WiFi, flat Mac-like keys and Bluetooth.

Where ports are concerned, it’s got wireless HDMI, 2 USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, and audio in/out. It’s OS of choice is Windows XP home, which is a bit odd for something that wants to be a home theater PC, though it’s not packing a TV tuner either. No info on price or release date, but according to the Asus CEO, it’ll be available in the next 3 to 6 months.

Eee keyboard: A touchscreen Home Theater PCMeet the new best keyboard ever. The official Eee Keyboard. It features wireless HDMI, and it’s a “fully functional PC” with full QWERTY and an awesome mini secondary touchscreen.

Asus is mum about if and when we’ll actually see the Eee Keyboard come to market (It looks like a very real product), but if it’s a concept for a home theater PC, it is an amazing one. With wireless HDMI you could probably make any television into your monitor without having a huge PC taking up space.

Tiny backlit wireless keyboard

Tiny backlit wireless keyboardYou might remember a few months ago when we told you about that small bluetooth keyboard that was great for iPhone typing. Well, this one outdoes it. And it’s great for the dark home theater. This new backlit model is barely larger than your hand, and runs on 2.4GHz wireless rather than Bluetooth.

It even has an extra USB port for a mouse if you don’t also have a wireless mouse. This looks like an awesome device for your dimly-lit movie sanctuary. However, using two AAA batteries, all that blue backlighting and wireless connectivity, may just drain all the juice out of the device quickly.

No skin off my back, though yours is a different story.

And since you love pain, the $548 asking price is like a kick to the crotch. Especially when you consider the fact that there are no labels on those smooth, leathery keys. Don’t worry, for $603, you can get letters etched into them.

Keyboard for Blondes

Pink keyboard for BlondesI’m sure it’s not easy being a blonde, what with all the jokes and everything. Now I’m not saying those jokes are well deserved, I’m just saying they made a special keyboard for ya. First off, it’s pink, so you’re probably intrigued already right? The designers have also made things easier for you with some special keys.

You’ll get a lot of use out of the MySpace spacebar, while Enter= Yes, I want it. Delete= “Oops” and T= TC4S, too cool for school. S= “SOS”, shoes on sale. Seems like they covered everything. I hope all of that technical talk didn’t confuse you. The numbers even look like dice rather than plain old digits. With this keyboard, every moment you type is a blonde moment.

Datamancer’s ergonomic Steampunk keyboardDatamancer has done it again and this one looks like it would be pretty comfortable to use. It’s got the usual brass, wood and classic typewriter keys, along with some other really super details. Like some violet LEDs, an acanthus-leaf pattern etched into the brass, and a soft burgundy wrist pad that is removable for cleaning. It began life as a very rare but plain IBM Model M-15 split ergonomic keyboard, but as you can see, it looks much better now.

Space Invaders bendable keyboard

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on September 3rd, 2008

Space Invaders bendable keyboardThere’s nothing like shooting some Space Invaders who are trying to take over the world. It used to be that we popped a few quarters in the machine and shot them all to hell. These days it’s all about buying merchandise that bears the likeness of the 8-bit invaders. Some of which is actually practical.

Take this awesome looking bendable keyboard for example. It manages to be completely flexible while displaying the invading army, which is great for those on the go. It’s sealed, dustproof and spill-proof. If you have an accident, just easily wipe off the keys. Looks like it comes in black/white and pink/white. It will only cost you $39.
