WowWee diversifies at CES: Cinemin pico PJ, new Alive Cubs and moreWowWee is smart. They know that in this economy, it’s smart to diversify. We are all used to seeing the company’s latest robotics offerings, but now the company responsible for Tri-Bot is serving up a Cinemin line of micro Projectors.

Another thing of interest is the Spyball spy-cam, a remote controller, WiFi-enabled robotic ball. The company has more too. It doesn’t stop there. How about the Joebot and Roborover robots, FlyTech Lightstar flyer / Hoverpod racer, four brand new breeds of Alive Cubs and a fresh line of “pajama pals” called Sleeping Cuties.

WowWee Rovio Robot sports GPS & Wi-Fi
In addition to a few other neat robots, WowWee has introduced Rovio, a new “telepresence” robot that’s outfitted with the latest in micro-GPS technology from Evolution Robotics. Rovio has a Wi-Fi-enabled Web-cam that allows you to patrol your home while you’re away, via an Internet-enabled PC, console or mobile phone.

This one is an interesting looking robot. With the new GPS system you can drive the robot with shortcut “go-to” commands. For instance, “go to the dining room”. This makes it easy to control the robot remotely over the Web or even from your mobile phone. It also has what they call a “patrol mode” where it automatically sends you pictures of locations you want to check.

Mr. Personality

Here’s one of WowWee’s fun companion-robots from CES 2008. He sure looks like he has a sense of humor. He’d have to, with a face like that. “Mr. Personality” displays said personality on a LCD screen that features animated and synced facial features. He tells jokes, reads your daily fortune and will gladly answer any questions you may have about the future. The cool thing about this robot is that the user can download new personalities from the Internet via USB or an SD card.

Some specs are: A fully animated upper body, color LCD screen, several play modes including Bits, Crystal Ball, Fortune Cookies, Demo modes. He is also capable of detecting and avoiding obstacles, and he’s not afraid to tell you when he falls or when the batteries are running low. He has a three-wheeled omni-directional motion base, 7 motors, 4 IR sensors, a built-in microphone for voice memos, 64 MByte of built-in memory, audio input connector and he requires 6 “C” batteries. The remote controller requires 3 AAA batteries.

Life-Size Elvis Presley Singing Robot Head

Elvis Presley singing robot bust is life-sizeYou may remember seeing this slightly disturbing animatronic robot of Elvis Presley from WowWee shown off at CES 2007, and now you can get your own to take home and sing with ’till your tender hearts’ content. You won’t be seeing any Blue Suede Shoes though since this singing robot is only a life-size bust replica of Elvis Presley and comes complete with microphone, which is actually a wireless IR remote control.

Using the microphone remote you can control the Elvis robot in four different modes. The “Alive” mode is for conversation, “Monologue” will have Elvis tell you stories, the “Song” mode will bring on one of eight songs and of course our favorite “Sing Along” lets you sing with the King, karaoke-style (you’ll need your own mic). Be sure to check out the video below.
