If you do use the other OS feature for some reason you have a decision to make. Sony has Announced that the latest firmware update that is set to hit this week will eliminate the Other OS feature.

Sony Active Shutter 3D glasses battery life revealed

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on March 24th, 2010

We know that they cost a lot, but now we have some info regarding the battery life for Sony’s TDG-BR100 and TDG-BR50 active shutter 3D glasses. We are happy to report that they are rated at about 100 hours of use.

You can chalk that up to the fact that the glasses only kick in when they receive the 3D synchronization signal from the TV, otherwise they will be in standby mode. For the price at least they last awhile. At launch, Sony will release only battery powered glasses and apparently there are no induction-based models in the pipeline.

Sony shrinks PS3 OS and gives extra RAM to devs

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on February 24th, 2010

One of the big reasons that I bought my PS3 when the console first came out was so I could use it as a Blu-ray player. As it turns out that was a great decision thanks to the myriad of new features that Sony adds to the device like the coming 3D update.

Joystiq reports that Sony has shrunk the OS the PS3 uses from 120MB down to 50MB. The really good news is that the electronics giant is playing Robin Hood and has given that extra RAM to game developers to play with.

Sony blocks online play on used copies of PSP SOCOM game

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on February 18th, 2010

In case you didn’t know, retail copies of SOCOM US Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo 3 come with a code that’s needed to unlock online play for the game. If you buy it used, a new code will be $20. Say what? You bought it used so you could save $20. That isn’t cool.

Well publishers don’t think the used games market is cool. Used games cost them money when you buy it at a discount rather then from them retail. But what can they do? It’s legal to buy and sell used games. They play games with these one-time-use codes in retail packaging that leaves used game buyers without the full experience. That’s what they do. Well, one of the things.

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on January 20th, 2010

Sony unveiled its Transfer Jet technology at CES. The tech promises to let users send images and video wirelessly between cameras, computers, and TVs at speeds over 500Mbps. Sony has announced its first memory card sporting the tech and it is up for pre-order.

The memory card is called the 8GB Memory Stick with Transfer Jet. The memory card reminds me a lot of the Eye-Fi SD cards that have been around for a while. The main difference is the Sony Transfer Jet tech doesn’t upload to photo and video sharing sites automatically.

reald-logo-sgI was glad to hear this week that the specifications for 3D Blu-ray had been finalized. I was even more excited to hear that my PS3 would support 3D Blu-ray reaffirming my feeling that the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player around.
