Samsung F480 Games Edition unveiled

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 31st, 2009

Samsung F480 Games Edition unveiledFirst launched in the spring of 2008, the Samsung F480 is Samsung’s most successful touchscreen phone to date. It’s sold more than 5 million units worldwide (under various names. You may know it as the Samsung TouchWiz, Samsung Toco or Samsung F488. Yeah, it has an identity crisis).

Anyhow, now the F480 comes in a Games Edition, with five full games pre-installed, including “Pacman”, “Who wants to be a millionaire 2009″ and “Millenium Poker.” Those names don’t seem all that exciting to us, but your mileage may vary. Aside from that feature, the Samsung F480 Games Edition looks to have the same features of the original phone: QVGA touchscreen display, 5MP autofocus camera, Bluetooth and HSDPA connectivity.

Samsung recalls Jitterbug handsetsSamsung is recalling 160,000 Jitterbug cellphones. The handsets targeted seniors they want them back since they are missing one very important feature. They don’t connect to 911 services whenever the handset is out of their service area.

Jitterbug owners get an “out of range, try again later” message instead of help. The recall will apply to SPH-a110 and SPH-a120 Jitterbug models that are equipped with standard keys and were sold between March 2008 and May 2009. Owners of the OneTouch model don’t have to worry since that handset is not affected.

Samsung S5050 shows up in press photosThe Samsung S5050 doesn’t have much to brag about when it comes to specifications. It’s a plain-jane phone with EDGE, Bluetooth, FM radio and a 3.2MP camera. You can save photos on a MicroSDHC card. (8GB max)

It does catch the eye and the design, with it’s pink-ish flair should make it a hit with female customers. (Since they didn’t go all pink) It has just enough pink to say, I’m a female and I don’t have to carry Hello Kitty around with me. The phone weighs 102g with a 105×49x14.6mm form factor.

Samsung i8910 HD now available in the UKThose living in the UK will be able to get the Samsung i8910 HD, aka the Omnia HD. The Symbian S60-powered device is a reasonable £97.50 on a £35 monthly plan.

That sounds like a bargain since some features include: a 3.7″ capacitive touchscreen at 640 x 360 resolution display, an 8-megapixel camera and a modified TouchWiz 3D implementation that works in the S60 environment. That’s some good value for money. We don’t often get such good value in the states.

Samsung’s SCH-W760 features night vision cam

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2009

Samsung's SCH-W760 features night vision camThe new SCH-W760 looks like a typical midrange slider. It sports a 3 megapixel camera, DMB reception, Bluetooth, and a 2.8-inch AMOLED display. In other words, the usual. It does feature at least one very interesting feature, though.

That would be a front cam sensitive to the infrared spectrum so that you can hold grayscale video calls in complete darkness. Great for faking ghosthunters type scenes and making your own Blair Witch footage. We have no idea why.
