Panasonic D-Snap media player now also has Bluetooth 2.0As you might notice by the additional little logo on the front, Panasonic has upgraded its D-Snap MP3 player to now include Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. The new D-Snap SV-SD950N has also added a couple buttons on the front to let its player hook up wirelessly with your Bluetooth phone, hands-free car unit or a Bluetooth stereo headset.

Aside from the added connectivity the D-Snap appears to be the same, still featuring its special noise canceling and comes packaged with a 1GB SD card. The only other changes, which are not quite as cool, are a decreased battery life due to the Bluetooth running and an increased price. The D-Snap SV-SD950N is expected to hit shelves in Japan on September 21.

Posted in Digital Cameras,Panasonic by Darrin Olson on May 21st, 2007

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 12.2 Megapixel CameraWe can always count on the manufacturers of digital cameras to continually come out with products that have a higher pixel count. Today Panasonic kicked it up a notch by announcing the Lumix DMC-FX100 12.2 megapixel point and shoot camera featuring a wider angle shot than most point and shoots available today.

The new Lumix digital camera has a 3.6x zoom that spans the equivalent of 28mm to 100mm with the wider angle pictures. The camera also features something Panasonic called “Extra Optical Zoom” which extends the range to around 196mm, but the catch is that pictures taken at this zoom level are only 3 megapixels, and not the full 12.2 that the camera is capable of with the standard shots.

Panasonic made a point to remind consumers that the zoom available with this new camera is not a digital-zoom feature. Optical zoom is …

Panasonic D-Snap SV-SD850N digital audio playerPanasonic will be leading out its new line of D-Snap players at the end of April with the D-Snap SV-SD850N digital audio player.

The 12mm thick player has an FM tuner, supports AAC, WMA and MP3 files, has a line in recorder and a 4 line text display which makes the player somewhat interesting, but none of those features really stand out to us. One of the features that do increase our level of interest is the impressive battery life. The D-Snap SV-SD850N is boasting 80 hours of music file playback on a single charge. That number drops significantly with the FM tuner or recording, but nevertheless is impressive.

Another interesting point of this new D-Snap is a noise canceling feature, which according to the press release can cut ambient noise by up to 83%. The noise canceling can be turned on or …

US Research Firm Sues Phone Makers Over BluetoothWashington Research Firm, located in Seattle, Washington, is claiming that one of its scientists was awarded a patent for some of the technology used in Bluetooth back in 1999. The firm is claiming damages for infringement on the use of “simplified high frequency broadband tuner and tuning method.”

The firm is suing Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic claiming that these cell phone makers “have manufactured, used, imported into the United States, sold and offered for sale devices which, or the use of which, infringes at least the ’963′ patent.” This essential means the manufacturers are using Bluetooth technology in their phones without paying royalties.

It appears the suit is aimed at products manufactured by CSR, a British chip manufacturer. Broadcom, CSR’s US based competitor has a license for the patented technology.

New 3CCD HD Camcorders from Panasonic

Posted in Camcorders,Digital Video,News,Panasonic by Darrin Olson on December 10th, 2006

Panasonic 3CCD High Definition AVCHD CamcordersPanasonic has recently unveiled two new high definition camcorders with some big screen features in tiny packages. The HDC-SD1 and HDC-DX1 are similar camcorders but both record high def in slightly different ways. The HDC-DX1 (pictured on the left) records onto DVD discs, and the HDC-SD1 records onto small (in size not capacity) SDHC memory cards.

The HDC-SD1 has some advantages with recording onto the memory cards by having no moving parts required in order to save the data. It has fewer parts to break, and is more resistant to shock. Also, it can potentially hold more data. A 4GB memory card can hold up to an hour of high definition video, where a dual layer DVD can hold up to about 40 minutes. And of course if you add a larger memory card, you can hold more recording time. Another …
