Posted in Dell by Reuben Drake on July 25th, 2011

It’s not everyday you see a 1920 x 1200-pixel IPS panel for your desk. Dell is offering just that with their new UltraSharp U2412M. It has over 2.3 million pixels with its 24-inch LED-backlit display and features in-plane switching (IPS) with a wide viewing angle, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, DisplayPort and DVI connectivity.

There’s also a built-in USB hub, and height adjustability. Must be ultra expensive right? Not really. It retails for $399. Not bad at all for that price huh?

ASUS SL101 Android tablet hits the FCC

Posted in ASUS by Conner Flynn on July 25th, 2011

ASUS’ Eee Pad Slider, the SL101, has had several delays since it was unveiled at CES earlier this year. It was originally to launch in May 2011 and then it was pushed back to August. Now today the Slider has hit the FCC, so we may see it soon. The Slider got approval for Bluetooth and WiFi, but there were no 3G capabilities mentioned in the FCC filings.

The Slider has a trademark sliding keyboard that emerges from beneath the screen. The Android 3.0 device boasts a 10.1-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution, front (1.2MP) and rear (5MP with flash) cameras, and several ports including microSD, mini HDMI out and mini USB. It is expected to have a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.

Facebook glitch exposes private videos

Posted in Facebook by Conner Flynn on July 25th, 2011

If you have any private videos on Facebook, you better pay attention. TechCrunch first got wind of this problem and it could be embarrassing for some of you with sensitive videos. The glitch apparently has to do with restricted-access settings for videos posted to Facebook and shared with supposedly designated friends.

The titles, thumbnails, and descriptions for videos were mistakenly visible to all of a user’s friends, regardless of which had been granted access to the clips. And a list of people tagged in each clip was visible as well.

Amazon temporarily suspends 3DS sales

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on July 25th, 2011

Amazon has halted sales of it’s Nintendo 3DS units after a series of complaints from customers. What the complaint are about is a mystery, but the fault is not with the hardware, but instead on Amazon’s end. Here’s what Amazon had to say about the situation:

“While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page,” said the company, “it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it’s described here. We’re working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.”

First Samsung Slider for Boost Mobile Shows Up

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 24th, 2011

It was thought that Samsung’s SPH-M930 would be coming to Sprint as the followup to the mid-range Transform (SPH-M920), but now it looks like this model will be landing at Sprint-Nextel’s prepaid operator Boost Mobile.

This device runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 1GHz MSM8655 SoC from Qualcomm, up to an HVGA-resolution display and a camera as low as two megapixels. The M930 has picked up its Bluetooth and Wi-Fi certifications, but hasn’t received FCC approval, so it’s probably still a month or two from release.

Apple had one million Lion downloads in the first day

Posted in Apple by Reuben Drake on July 21st, 2011

Well, we knew that a whole bunch of people have downloaded Lion, but now Apple is making sure we know just how many downloads there have been. Turns out that the $29.99 update is pretty popular. Of course we knew that already.

Apple says that one million downloads of Lion have been registered in the first day of availability alone. That’s faster than any other OS release in the company’s history. So maybe their claims of it being the “best OS we’ve ever made” is true.

Motorola Defy+ rumored for AT&T

Posted in Motorola by Reuben Drake on July 21st, 2011

Word is that a slightly upgraded version of Motorola’s Defy Android smartphone may soon arrive at AT&T. If this rumor turns out to be accurate, the handset will get support for 850MHz, 1,900MHz and 2,100MHz HSPA bands, which are used by AT&T and some Canadian carriers.

Differences from the original device are said to include a 1GHz OMAP 3620 processor instead of the 800MHz CPU, and Android 2.3.3. Aside from that, RAM, storage space, camera specs and the 3.7-inch display should remain the same.
