Fido unveils pink Nokia 3500

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on October 2nd, 2008

Fido unveils pink Nokia 3500The Nokia 3500 is now available in pink from Fido, even though it doesn’t look all that pink. Not really that big of a deal. The pink is limited to the direction pad and keypad which light up. The pinkified Nokia 3500 will cost the same as the regular version of the 3500: $15 a month with a 3-year contract, $90 for a 2-year contract, $100 standalone phone. Probably a good phone for those girls who want to be all Sex in the City.

It features a 2 megapixel camera, music player and built-in FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, tri-band GSM support and a microSD memory card slot. Also has Handsfree speaker, Voice commands, calendar, to-do list, notes, countdown timer, stopwatch and calculator. Just a bit of pink. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Nokia BMW video phone concept

Nokia BMW video phone conceptMeet the Nokia BMW Video Phone. Take one look and it’s obviously the BMW of cellphones right? A thing of beauty. It’s what you get when you combine the ultimate driving machine with the ultimate video mobile phone.

The Nokia BMW mobile phone has an interesting standout feature called “push to open” which is a mechanism that rotates 90 degrees. Push the button and your phone is a handy-cam. We’re thinking they should get on this one real quick, but experience tells us that they’ll take their own sweet time and let someone else beat them to it. Someone like Sony for instance.

Nokia’s People First cell phone
Nokia’s People First concept uses navigation that’s shallow with minimum use of folders, applications, etc… A vertical list shows your personal history, with new content being added at the top of the list. So things are simple, using universally understood organizing principles: time, lists and faces.

With People First Nokia is “encouraging personalization, hacking, and entrepreneurial ventures with widgets support, accessible native programming language (as simple as html) and freely available hardware and software specifications.”

Nokia 8800 arte Platinum Snow Fox editon

Nokia 8800 arte Platinum Snow Fox editon
Nokia’s 8800 arte Platinum Snow Fox Edition from Goldstriker is one sleek and sexy phone. It’s not for those who lead an average lifestyle. Just like it’s not for those who are a little light in the checkbook. The phone is enhanced with 40 individually set AAA grade ultra white synthetic diamonds. It will be released on May 1st of this year for £1095.

It impressed Goldstriker’s director Katherine Hughes enough to comment “I have been lucky over the last few years to be involved and witness so many different customizations of mobile phones but this handset seems to stand out from the rest. It is for sure the most stunning to date”. I’m not much for AAA grade ultra white synthetic diamonds myself, but like I said it is sexy and certainly makes a statement.

Nokia camera phone language translator

Nokia camera phone language translator
Nokia recently showcased a cool new app for Nokia mobile phones. The app is named shoot-to-translate and it translates from Chinese to English by taking a photo of the Chinese text that you want to read. This is super handy for those frequent travellers who have no idea how to read the local language.

You won’t have to worry about flipping through some translation book. You’ll know quickly what it says. Though the application shows only Chinese to English translation, we are obviously going to see the ability to do more languages in the future.

Nokia 7070 Prism clamshell
Nokia announced a new clamshell in it’s Prism line. The Nokia 7070 Prism comes with a 128 x 160 TFT display, 11MB of internal memory, MP3 ringtones/24polyphonic, GPRS connectivity and light indicators. It’s a basic phone, with no camera, no Bluetooth and no memory slot.

This sort of phone is ideal for those who want to use it only to make calls and use SMS, pretty much. The 7070 Prism is expected to be shipped in Q3 of 2008 with a price of €50. Despite the fact that it’s got no frills, it does have a cool geometric design with external light effects , which reminds me of some of those old Rubik’s puzzle games.

Nokia’s Eco Sensor concept phone
The idea behind Nokia’s latest concept phone is the merging of communications and health and environment. One would be able to share environmental data that the sensing device collects and view other users’ shared data, increasing global environmental awareness.

A sensor unit will be worn on a wrist or as a neck strap made from solar cells that power the sensors. NFC (near field communication) technology will relay information by touch from the sensors to the phone, or even to other devices that support NFC technology. Both the phone and the sensor unit will be as compact as possible to minimize materials used, and those materials would be renewable and/or reclaimed. Inside the devices, would be more energy saving technology.

Nokia rolling out N810 Internet Tablet

Posted in Internet Appliances,Nokia by Nino Marchetti on October 17th, 2007

Nokia N810Nokia seems to think there is a growing market for devices whose primary application is Internet access, despite the many product corpses littering the Internet appliance highway dating back year. The mobile manufacturer is taking a shot nonetheless though with its new N810 Internet Tablet, priced at around $480.

The pocket-sized Nokia N810 is Linux based and runs a variety of Internet enabled software. You can connect to the Internet from a wireless hot spot or via your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone. Once connected you can make Internet calls, check email, watch YouTube videos, etc. There’s also a slide-out keyboard to help you type out your URLs and emails.
