Nokia N81 Slider phoneWe found this preview of the Nokia N81 slider phone at RingNokia, showing a new sleek looking multimedia-focused device, which according to their source is expected to be available to consumers in the 4th quarter yet this year.

The N81 is quad-band EDGE which also supports WiFi and Bluetooth and has a nice 8GB of internal memory to store your media. WiFi connectivity and lots of internal memory are a big plus for any handheld device in our book. The Nokia N81 also houses two cameras and a 2.4″ QVGA screen at 240×320 in 16M colors.

The battery it ships with is expected to give 3-4 hours of talk time or up to 3-4 hours of gaming time. Oh yeah, and apparently this phone has some “dedicated keys” for gaming and navigating music but we’re not seeing them in the photo. The listed dimensions are …

Nokia N95 Released in US

Nokia N95 released in the USWe new it was coming soon, and now the Nokia N95 that was released in Europe a couple weeks ago is available in the US. An unlocked version can be purchased through Nokia’s site for the N Series mobile phones or through select wireless retailers, but it will cost you.

As with many situations “cool” comes at a price, and in the case of the N95 it comes at a price of $750. In order to try and justify the price for this gadget, keep in mind that this is the smartphone that slides both directions; one way to expose a keypad and the other to expose some multimedia buttons. It has GPS built-in with associated navigation software, a 5 megapixel camera, supports WiFi and Bluetooth but no 3G.

Nokia offers Smart2Go Navigation Software as Free DownloadNokia is making its smart2go mapping and navigation platform available as a free download. Smart2Go is a mapping and routing application for mobile devices and includes maps of over 150 countries and support for full turn-by-turn satellite navigation.

The Smart2Go application allows people to view their current location on a map, create routes, and search through an extensive points-of-interest database. Smart2Go contains over 15 million points-of-interest including nearby sights, restaurants, and accommodations. Consumers can use the application to send locations, map excerpts, or routes to friends or take screen shots of maps for future reference.

Nokia has plans to pre-install smart2go on all future Nokia Nseries multimedia computers under the name “Nokia Maps”. Current owners of Nokia devices may also download Nokia Maps to their supported devices.

Have you tried tablet PC’s but found that writing on one isn’t so enjoyable? Do you like writing notes but wish there was a nice way to transfer them to a digital format? Well your problems are solved.

Nokia’s Digital Pen SU-1B (couldn’t their marketing come up with something better?) is an an ink pen that remembers what it writes. In fact its memory is so good it can remember up to 100 A5 sized pages. A5 is the typical size of American notebook paper used in schools.

The pen is compatible with both phones, via Bluetooth and PC’s, via USB. To use the pen with a phone it must be “paired” to that phone. Once this is done you can send text to your phone.

Nokia Releases N800 Internet TabletNokia has released their latest Internet Tablet titled the N800 to upgrade from the 770. With this hand-held device, users can easily take the internet and communications with them throughout the house or office ridding the need of a laptop to look up web pages or check their email. No traditional voice communications are included with this hand-held, but Nokia has announced a partnership with Skype along with the release of the N800. Sprint Nextel and Nokia to Deploy WiMAXSprint Nextel today announced that Nokia has been chosen as a key infrastructure and device provider for its 4G WiMAX mobile broadband network. Jointly, the companies will develop mobility services and applications and conduct co-marketing efforts to drive global adoption of WiMAX.

The partnership involves a commitment from Nokia to provide network infrastructure, mobile consumer electronic devices, and various market development commitments. Nokia is slated to be a major supplier to Sprint for WiMAX network infrastructure – namely the Nokia Flexi WiMAX base transceiver stations. Cell Phone Manufacturers Sued by Washington Research Firm

US Research Firm Sues Phone Makers Over BluetoothWashington Research Firm, located in Seattle, Washington, is claiming that one of its scientists was awarded a patent for some of the technology used in Bluetooth back in 1999. The firm is claiming damages for infringement on the use of “simplified high frequency broadband tuner and tuning method.”

The firm is suing Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic claiming that these cell phone makers “have manufactured, used, imported into the United States, sold and offered for sale devices which, or the use of which, infringes at least the ’963′ patent.” This essential means the manufacturers are using Bluetooth technology in their phones without paying royalties.

It appears the suit is aimed at products manufactured by CSR, a British chip manufacturer. Broadcom, CSR’s US based competitor has a license for the patented technology.

The Nokia 1325 and the Nokia 1265 are both entry level models with limited features, targeting those new to mobile phones in China, Asia-Pacific, the Middle-East, Africa and Latin America.

Nokia 330Nokia has announced a new GPS device for use on roads in Europe called the Nokia 330 Auto Navigation.

Using the ROUTE 66 Navigate 7 software along with map data from NAVTEQ, you can enter you destination into the 330 and have it map you a route and direct you with voice commands in multiple available languages.

The vice president of multimedia enhancements at Nokia, Razvon Olosu, stated “Consumers are increasingly eager to use personal navigation devices while driving and we are delighted to introduce the Nokia 330 Auto Navigation device to meet this demand.” Olosu continues, “Nokia 330 Auto Navigation complements the recently announced GPS and navigation solutions from Nokia. This full length version of M:i:III will be available on memory cards exclusively with Nokia Nseries multimedia computers. The film will be also offered as part of the Nokia N93 sales package with no additional cost to consumers.
