Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on April 15th, 2009

LG: 20 million QWERTY phones sold worldwideLG is proudly announcing that they have successfully made a lot of money off 20 million QWERTY cell phones around the globe. We don’t have any other breakdown on the data, like how many candybar, clamshell or slider form factors sold the most.

The most successful QWERTY devices include the enV series that sold over 8 million units in North America alone along with the Rumor series that sold 6 million units in North America. It’s quite a milestone for LG. You might say that the QWERTY bird gets the worm.

LG presentation shows off fake TV advancements

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2009

Just your typical viral marketing ad. What’s interesting about this one is that it shows off a bunch of TV Advancements during an LG presentation. The first one replaces all swear words with baby laughter, while a “Happy Time” feature detects when a program is too sad for you and replaces the image on screen with images of cute puppies or kittens.

The last one is the Family Time feature that turns any adult themed scene into a cartoon, which would make porn something entirely different.

LG Versa getting a game pad module?

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2009

LG Versa getting a game pad module? This is interesting, but not entirely surprising. The LG Versa was built to be modular after all. It’s just that the only module we’ve seen so far is the QWERTY keyboard. That could change with this upcoming game controller that resembles an NES controller.

Starting April 1st you can get one for $29. We don’t think it’s an April Fools’ joke, but we’ll see. This means that you can turn the LG VX9600 into a nice looking gaming device for only $29. The only problem we see is, uh… a lack of games.

LG recalls 30,000 830 Spyder handsets due to Poor 911 connectionIt’s always nice when your phone has some extra bells and whistles, but we tend to forget that the most important feature of your phone is it’s 911 functionality. That’s why LG must be feeling a bit embarrassed that around 30,000 LG 830 Spyder handsets are having a tough time dialing for help.

A product recall notes that a huge number of them have “difficulty sustaining a connection or have poor voice quality on calls to emergency 911.” On the up side, LG is acting responsibly, as it has only received a single report that did not result in any injuries.

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on February 16th, 2009

LG GD900 transparent phoneThe LG GD900 has just been unveiled, and the transparent keypad phone is a real looker. It’s definitely a first. The phone is just 13mm thick and features a slide out keypad that’s see through, knocking the iPhone dead as far as cool looks. It may be crystal clear, but the LG GD900 keypad will still glow if you are in the dark.

There aren’t many details about what’s going on inside other than HSDPA, but it’s due out Q2 this year. We do know that there’s a second camera on the front for video calls, and we’re guessing it’s also a music phone, with a proper headphone jack and may have Dolby Mobile inside.

It features a dedicated multimedia chip and names for each side of the interface’s 3D cube. Those names are: phone, widgets, shortcuts, and multimedia. Get this. The UI “took 100 man years to develop”. Chuckle. At this rate, we will learn all there is to know before Monday.
