HTC HD7 gets an FCC tear down

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 21st, 2011

The HTC HD7 arrived at the FCC in October of last year, but they are just getting around to showing us it’s internal and external photos. It was originally called the HD3 since it will succeed the HTC HD2 , but they decided on the HD7 name to be consistent with Windows Phone 7 branding.

The device’s teardown photos show off its Qualcomm SnapDragon processor, Qualcomm Power Management chip and internal memory, which is a 16GB SanDisk chip. Hit the link below to check out it’s guts in a variety of images.

It’s March 20th and you know what that means. Sprint has started taking orders for its first Windows Phone 7 handset. The HTC 7 Pro, now renamed the Arrive, will cost you $200 after rebate when bought with the two-year contract.

Amazon is undercutting the carriers’ own pricing by offering for 50 dollars less at $150, helping to make it nice and affordable. Others will be offering it at that price soon as well. So, who is getting this one? Let us know in the comments below.

HTC Thunderbolt now available

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 17th, 2011

We knew it was coming and yesterday we had word that “tomorrow,” was the day, which means today it is here. Verizon Wireless is now taking online orders for HTC’s 4.3-inch Thunderbolt. The price is $250 on a two-year contract.

The handset comes with Android 2.2 as the OS underlying HTC Sense 2.0 UI, an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording, 768MB of RAM, and a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 chip. If Verizon’s price seems high, the Thunderbolt has been seen as low as $180 at Amazon, although they have it on back order right now.

Skype completely axed from HTC ThunderBolt?

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2011

When the HTC Thunderbolt was announced, one of the most interesting aspects was its ability to support Skype video calls. But as release drew closer, Verizon said that Skype wouldn’t be ready in time for launch. Now, the phone is officially announced to arrive tomorrow and Skype is unavailable on the Android phone. Not only that, but it looks like it might never be released at all.

All the web pages on HTC’s and Verizon’s sites have removed all mention of the Skype feature as if it never existed. Poof. Just gone. Scrubbed clean. Droid-Life investigated and now it is starting to look like a conspiracy. There was no explanation of why it was removed. We thought about calling Muldar and Scully for comment, but the cigarette smoking man shrouded in darkness just laughed at us and told us to drop it. And that guy is creepy.

Both share a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and a five-megapixel camera, but the Arrive takes the integrated storage up to 16GB.

Sprint has also customized the device with its own home tile and with preloaded apps for Sprint TV and other content like NASCAR Sprint Cup. The Arrive is set to ship on March 20.

HTC Thunderbolt coming March 17th

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2011

We’ve been pretty psyched about HTC’s Thunderbolt ever since we first heard about it. And frankly that seems like a lifetime ago, after it’s release has been pushed further and further back. But now we have some good news and we hope that our hopes don’t get dashed yet again. A leaked email and an HTC regional sales manager’s tweet (the account has now been deleted) both claim that Verizon’s first 4G handset will finally be available on March 17th.

HTC posted on Facebook that the official launch date will be announced “soon, “. Well, four days from now qualifies as soon in our book. If they delay this again, people are going to start looking at other options.

The HTC Incredible S was shown off at the Mobile World Congress last month and was scheduled to be released in Q2 this year. The FCC has already taken a look at the device, and now we have some images of the device in the wild, so we hope that the Android phone will arrive very soon.

Until that happens, the guys at Android Spin recently got their hands on the Incredible S and have provided some photos. They will be also be posting their hands-on experience with the device and sharing it. To refresh your memory the HTC Incredible S features a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM 8655 processor, a 4″ WVGA LCD screen, Android 2.2, 8 megapixel rear camera with flash, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, 4GB of internal storage, 768MB of RAM, and a 1450mAh battery.

HTC Thunderbolt rumored for March 21

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

The HTC Thunderbolt has another firmer launch date now, through this latest rumor. Not one, but two insiders are saying that the phone will ship on March 21. BGR says that the tips came from fairly new sources, but also that HTC’s Facebook page briefly mentioned the same date. So it seems more reliable.

The phone was originally thought to have a mid-February release, with dates being repeatedly pushed back. This may be due to poor battery life that needed some firmware fixes, but we don’t even have official word on that.

HTC Thunderbolt arriving next week?

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2011

After several delays and some missed release dates, the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon is starting to look more like a mirage than an actual phone. And according to a recently discovered Verizon chart, we may have the reason for the 4G LTE phone’s delay.

According to the chart, the Thunderbolt is only scheduled to arrive after the iPad 2, so that means it won’t happen this week. The iPad 2 comes out on Friday, so the earliest that we’ll see the Thunderbolt would be next week. However, Verizon hasn’t officially announced anything yet, so who knows?

HTC ChaCha renamed ChaChaCha in Spain

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2011

It looks like HTC has been having some drama regarding their upcoming “Facebook phone”. The HTC ChaCha was recently sued by ChaCha Search Inc for infringement of the ChaCha trademark. And now the ChaCha name has gotten HTC into trouble once again.

Apparently, the HTC ChaCha will be renamed the ChaChaCha in Spain because the word “chacha” is offensive in the country. In the future they obviously need to do better market research when naming their phones.

HTC Trophy spotted sporting Verizon logo

Still not sure if the HTC Trophy will be on Verizon? Well, now we know. An Engadget tipster has sent in the image above and says that it’s running the latest version of Windows Phone 7, complete with copy/paste support.

The source says that it looks exactly the same physically as the European version, except instead of the orange-yellow backplate, it has red highlights around back to match the carrier.

HTC Thunderbolt possibly delayed due to battery life

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on February 27th, 2011

It looks like the HTC Thunderbolt’s delays might be due to battery life issues. Verizon’s 4G phone is reportedly suffering from battery life that is so poor, it can drain out in two to three hours. Firmware was said to be to blame according to Engadget’s sources and there may be a fix coming in software.

Verizon has reportedly had to delay the Thunderbolt’s official launch date six times, which explains the multiple release dates that have surfaced. Hopefully they get things sorted out quickly and get the phone out.
