Palm and Cingular Announce Treo 750

Cingular Introduces Palm Treo 750Palm and Cingular introduced the new Palm Treo 750 for Cingular this week, which is now available for customers through Cingular and through Palm’s website. This brings Cingular up into the race with a product in direct competition with the likes of Sprint and Verizon with their Treo 700 line products, and is an addition to the Treo 680 already available from Cingular.

The Treo 750 will have high speed 3G/UMTS network access to provide faster internet access to customers. The UMTS network has speeds from 200-300 kbps, which is not quite as fast as the possible 700kbps with Cingular’s HSDPA service, but it is quicker than the EDGE connections. The 750 is also dubbed a world phone allowing access to GSM, GPRS, EDGE and UMTS networks to give access throughout the US and in 61 other countries around the world.

Cingular and MySpace Mobile Partnership

Cingular MySpace MobileCingular Wireless and MySpace.com have announced a partnership which offers enhanced MySpace functionality exclusively to all Cingular customers via their mobile phones.

The partnership gives customers of the nation’s largest wireless carrier access to the world’s leading lifestyle portal. MySpace Mobile will give consumers the ability to edit MySpace profiles, view and add friends and groups, upload photos, post comments and blog entries, send and receive MySpace messages all from their mobile phone.

This announcement further solidifies the vision of the two organizations to offer mobile users rich and meaningful mobile experiences anywhere. Earlier this year the two companies created the MySpace Mobile Music studio, designed to empower MySpace’s unsigned bands and artists to cut ringtones of their original music for fans for purchase and download.

The cost of MySpace mobile is $2.99 per month plus standard data usage charges.

HP and Cingular Wireless Connect with Broadband Notebook PC

HP nc6400The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC is the first notebook in the United States to feature built-in global mobile broadband capabilities. The nc6400 is brought to you through collaboration between HP and Cingular Wireless who look to take advantage of Cingular’s UMTS/HSDPA network, which is available currently in 145 major metropolitan areas including 65 of the top 100 largest cities in 33 states.

The new notebook comes with integrated Cingular Wireless UMTS/HSDPA-based technology which uses the Qualcomm MSM6280 chipset to support 3.6Mbps performance modes and tri-band UMTS frequency bands. Business users now have more areas to connect to corporate networks at broadband speeds and in the future, consumers may have the option to upgrade to Cingular Wireless’ 3G network by adding an HP Broadband Wireless Module as an upgrade.
