Canon’s line of EOS cameras continues to be extremely popular as it enters the 20th anniversary of its production, Canon said. It also markets the 70th anniversary of the company as a whole as production of the EOS series charts past 30 million units.

Canon recounted some of its history of the EOS cameras, saying it first released the EOS 650 AF SLR camera in March of 1987. The company has continued to build on that tradition since, releasing new models as technology through the years. Examples of this include an AF function that allowed users to select a desired focusing point just by looking at it, its first digital camera with proprietary CMOS sensor in 2000 and, more recently, a revamped camera system.

This concept design by David Münscher is what Yanko Design describes as a “Stalker’s Dream” and consists of a tiny camera small enough to be worn around one finger and take pictures with “high quality optics”. The spy-like camera has a single button to aim and snap photos requiring on a couple of fingers and creating a very discrete shooter. It’s hard to say if something this small could become a reality in the near future while still providing “high quality” shots, but like most of the concepts we just like it because it looks cool. If they actually get it to work, why that’s just a bonus!

Canon today introduced a new compact photo printer it says is easy to operate and offers new creative print functions. The Canon SELPHY ES2 Compact Photo Printer is priced at around $200.

The SELPHY ES2 Compact Photo Printer sports a three-inch LCD screen which can be tilted upward for easy viewing. It has what is called an “Easy Photo Pack” system, meaning paper and ink are loaded at the same time. Users can create photos without a computer, choosing from a variety of creative options like 16 different templates to frame postcard-sized photos and new clip art options to add illustrations.

One of Canon’s most anticipated announcements among its new products unveiled is the 10.1-megapixel EOS 40D Digital SLR. This successor to the 20D and 30D mid-range prosumer digital cameras is expected to be available this September for body-only at around $1,299 or a kit version with a EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens for $1,499.

The Canon EOS 40D offers up 6.5 frames per second of shooting speed, a new auto focus sensor and an enhanced CMOS imaging sensor. Built into the EOS 40D’s body is a three-inch LCD screen with a raised brightness level and a 140-degree viewing angle. The body of this camera is made of a magnesium alloy which makes it more durable.

Canon unveiled today a horde of new digital imaging products. One of these is the compact and portable Pixma mini320 Compact Photo Printer, priced at around $180.

The Pixma mini320 is the first in its compact photo printer family to print what Canon says are photo lab quality images up to 5-inches x 7-inches. The printer comes with a 2.5-inch LCD screen with wide viewing angles and offers a scroll wheel interface. Consumers can print photos from compatible memory cards, digital cameras or camcorders, Bluetooth devices and a compatible camera phone.

Canon today has officially launched the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III digital camera featuring a 21.1 megapixel CMOS sensor with the Dual “DIGIC III” image processor, a 3 inch LCD display with Live View and multiple brightness settings and a shutter speed of 5 fps giving bursts of as many as 45 full resolution JPEGs or 12 RAWs at a time.

The camera uses a recording mediums of CF Cards, SD/SDHC (1 slot each), and can also use an external USB hard drive through an optional transmitter. It’s powered by a dedicated lithium-ion battery pack but Canon has yet to say how many shots are available from it.

Canon today unveiled a new laser multi-function printer which brings duplex printing and network capabilities to small and home office settings. The Canon imageClass MF4270 is priced at around $300 and should be available next month.

The Canon imageClass MF4270 is one of Canon’s smallest printers in its category and outputs in monochrome at up to 21 letter-sized pages per minute. It can print duplex directly from a PC as well as incoming faxes and copying letter-sized documents. With its 35 sheet automatic document feeder it can copy single sided documents and push out double-sided pages as well.

Canon is looking to capture the attention of those wanting to record high definition footage on camcorders. It announced today the October release of the Canon HG10 AVCHD Hard Disk Drive Camcorder.

The HG10, priced at around $1,300, will let you capture up to 15 hours of HD footage. Its compact body houses a 10x video lens, 2.7-inch LCD display and HDMI port for connecting to a HDTV. You also get useful features like optical image stabilization, instant auto focus, 3.1-megapixel photos captured to a miniSD card and a quick start.
