Posted in Buffalo by Conner Flynn on June 26th, 2009

Buffalo Ministation Metro portable drive announcedBuffalo is launching a new range of portable hard drives as it moves to join Seagate, Western Digital and HP in offering small sized portable storage on the go. The new Buffalo Ministation Metro will come in your choice of three colors; black, red and white, and comes in sizes up to 500GB.

They feature a sleek look and are about the size of a small paperback book. The company is trying to appeal to those folks who always forget to bring the cable with them by including a USB cable as part of the design. When not in use, the flexible cable wraps around and tucks into the drive, which is convenient.

Buffalo 7 inch USB LCD displayBuffalo has launched a 7 inch USB LCD display dubbed the Buffalo FTD-W7, for use as a secondary screen for you notebook or PC.
This tiny LCD display will give you a resolution of 800 x 400 and a contrast ratio of 500:1, and it connects to your PC via your USB port.

The cool part is that the screen swivels, making it even more useful. I might look into getting one of these as I’m planning on buying several hundred displays in my bid to take over the world. I’m gonna need screens for email, world maps, radar, etc.

Buffalo offers new powerline networking gear

Posted in Buffalo by Shane McGlaun on January 16th, 2009

Buffalo PL2-UPA-L1Right now, I live in a single story home of about 1700 square feet. You would think in that modest amount of space that a Wi-Fi signal would be strong everywhere. That isn’t the case, in the living room (a mere 10 feet) from the hub my PS3 often can’t connect to the Web.

To fix that problem I have been eyeing some powerline networking gear and Buffalo has introduced some new kit. The Buffalo PL2-UPA-L1 is the firm’s latest powerline networking gear and uses the DS2 chipset. This means that it is compatible with any other DS2 chipset networking gear around.

Buffalo USB Wi-Fi DongleLet’s face it guys, there are some things that we like to stick out a lot. There are some things we don’t want to stick out a lot, like our guts and the USB dongles we plug into our computers.

Buffalo has introduced the tiniest 802.11n Wi-Fi dongle that I have ever seen. The little thing is set to launch in early February and measures 16mm W x 33mm H x 8mm D. Those dimensions include the USB connector as well, which appears to take up about half of that height measurement.

It connects to your network via 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet as an Active Directory client and also has Buffalo’s Web Access technology allowing you to access data stored on the drive remotely from anywhere via the web. Buffalo brings out a 32GB flash memory drive

Posted in Buffalo,USB Flash Drives by Darrin Olson on December 13th, 2007

Buffalo SHD-U32GS 32GB TurboUSB flash memoryBuffalo has announced the release of a new flash memory stick that can hold up to an impressive 32GB of data. Your first thought might be to wonder just how long it takes to transfer 32GB of data to the drive through USB. Although it still might not be real quick Buffalo is assuring us that their TurboUSB technology will get the data onboard 20% faster than a standard USB drive.

Since the value of the data stored on a drive usually increases with the amount of data the company has added a little clip to give a little help against losing it and also has a manual “lock” switch to protect the data from being overwritten. The drive will work with just about any OS but Windows users can take advantage of software that will automate backups and provide a password-secured portion of the drive for storing private info.

Buffalo’s 56GB SSD Pocket Drive

Posted in Buffalo,SSD,Storage by Reuben Drake on July 23rd, 2007

Buffalo SHD-UH Solid State 56GB portable driveBuffalo has a new solid state drive out pushing the SSD storage capacity to as large as 56GB. This drive keeps small in stature however with dimensions of only 57mm x 89mm x 14mm and a weight of only 60 grams. It’s ready for the real world with shock resistance and is small enough to fit in your pocket giving you 56GB of easy-access storage on the go.

The Buffalo SHD-UH comes in different capacities ranging from 16GB up to the 56GB version and getting SSD in this capacity apparently is still not coming cheap. What the size and capacity does for its competitiveness, the price almost takes away as the 56GB version will run as much as ¥100000, or about $820.

Be a Couch PC Potato with Buffalo’s Kone

Posted in Buffalo,Television,USB by Chetz on July 12th, 2007

buffalo_dh-koneLet’s say that you want to watch the latest episode of “Lost” as it’s being broadcast and not have to resort to downloading the episode later on. Your sense of morals can rest easy when you have Buffalo’s DH-KONE/U2S USB 2.0 television tuner affixed to your machine!

The DH-KONE plugs into one of your computer’s USB ports. You can put it on the side of any metal wall and it will cling to it thanks to the unit’s magnetic bottom (if you don’t like that idea you can use the suction cup base.) While you’re watching Jack and Sawyer fighting over Kate, you can have the tuner look for other info about the episode, later programming schedules or the latest headlines or weather. You can also watch and record another program at the same time.

Buffalo’s DH-KONE will be available to Japanese consumers near the end of the month …

Buffalo BSKP-CU202/SV VoIP Speakerphone

Posted in Buffalo,Skype,VoIP by Chetz on April 30th, 2007

Buffalo BSKP-CU202/SV speakerphoneThis gunmetal gray number that you’re looking at is Buffalo’s BSKP-CU202/SV speakerphone. It’s for VoIP calls and it’s Skype compatible, but the best thing is that all the juice it needs to run comes straight from your computer’s USB port and no more than that.

Also, you don’t need any drivers to run it…yup, it’s supposedly totally plug and talk away. There is a headphone jack on the speaker’s backside so you can switch over when the conversation needs to be private. It’s also got echo cancellation technology too to reduce the background noise. The main speaker pumps out 4 watts while the two sides are 1 W each.

Buffalo just shipped it to the Japanese market and if you can find a Nippon vendor that ships to your doorstop it should cost you about $82.

Buffalo WiFi Adapter Boosts Speed and Range

Posted in Buffalo,USB,Wi-Fi by Darrin Olson on January 19th, 2007

Buffalo Wireless Adapter Improves WiFiBuffalo is a worldwide company that provides network solutions for home and work, including wireless networking and storage to memory and multimedia devices.

The company recently released a wireless LAN adapter to improve WiFi signals for your PC. The wireless adapter is designed for use by PC’s that do not currently have WiFi built in, or in situations where the wireless signal is poor due to distance.

The WiFi adapter from Buffalo connects to a PC via USB 2.0 and states that in improve signals up to 210% of the average WiFi adapter at distances up to 170 meters (about 1/10th of a mile). This adapter could be a good solution for working with a notebook outside your home, or in a motel or conference center in places with weak WiFi signals.

The downside is that the non-direction antenna is not very small…or particularly attractive. …

Buffalo LinkStation Pro Home NAS Device

Posted in Buffalo,NAS by Chris Weber on December 31st, 2006

Buffalo LinkStation Pro reviewThe Buffalo LinkStation Pro is a home network storage device that is more like a corporate file server than an external USB drive. This NAS unit comes with its own processor, Gigabit Ethernet networking and SATA drives. So in fact this little unit is a stand alone file server.

Speed issues with other models seems to have been alleviated with the usage of a Gigabit network connection and of course the inclusion of faster hard drives. Buffalo claims that the speed of this unit rivals a local USB drive. In practice this performance claim didn’t quite pan out but it is still by far the fastest unit like this that we have seen.

The unit comes in several different capacities; 250, 300, 400, 500 and 750 GB units are all available. The 250 GB unit …
