Video glasses are one of the things I just never saw a use for. Not only do you look like a goon when you wear them, but you can’t see what it going on around you either. That is not such a good thing if you need to be able to see what is going on around you at work or in other situations.

Brother has unveiled a new set of video glasses using tech from its printers that beams images directly on the retina of your eye. The small projector is attached to the side of the clear glasses and you can see what is going on around you with both eyes.

Brother has a new label-printing product hitting CES this year that packs some impressive features into a small package. This Brother QL-570, designed with the small business in mind, connects to your PC or Mac via USB and has included software to make label printing relatively easy and actually pretty fast.

The software has a few print modes ranging from basically taking a screen shot to highlighting and printing or actually creating high quality labels. It supports up to 300 x 600 dpi resolution and can print out logos or graphics making professional looking labels for your letters, products or anything else you might get label-happy with. The only nice feature about this label printer aside from it’s reasonable $100 price tag is the speed. It can push out simple text-only labels faster than 1 per second at a rate of 68 per minute.

Brother is wrapping up 2007 by bringing us word of two new laser printers – one of which is designed for wireless printing. The new HL-2170W and HL-2140 are priced at around $150 and $120 respectively.

The HL-2170W is the printer which is compatible with print broadcasts from 802.11 enabled computers on a network. It also has Ethernet capability. It hosts 32MB of memory, can print up to 23 pages per minute and holds an enclosed lower paper tray which holds up to 250 sheets of paper.

We know – it’s a printer. How boring…yeah, yeah. We do try to cover them once in a while though for those people who actually like to know how many pages per minute print. That being said, check out the new Brother DCP-9040CN, priced at around $600.

The Brother DCP-9040CN spits out up to 21 pages per minute in both color and monochrome. It’s classified by Brother as a digital laser copier/printer. It is network ready via an Ethernet port and also offers USB 2.0 connectivity. This printer can also scan in color up to 19200 x 19200 dpi interpolated and copy up to 17 pages per minute in both color and black and white.

While there never really is anything sexy to say about all-in-one printers Brother has unveiled a few new models which at least have our heads turning. The most interesting of these is the MFC-885CW, priced at around $250.

The Brother MFC-885CW is one of the first inkjet printers to sport a widescreen color LCD, measuring 4.2-inches. This larger screen display, says Brother, helps users better preview digital photos off of a supported media card as well as previewing incoming faxes before printing. This model is also quite network ready, offering both Ethernet and wireless 802.11 connectivity offerings.

Brother has a new compact printer expected to be available in March of 2007. The portable printer is called the MPrint (MW-260) and is small enough to hold in your hand.

The A6 sized printer measures only 160mm x 210mm x 18.5mm and weighs only 500 grams. It can be connected to via IRDA, Bluetooth or USB and prints up to 20 A6 pages per minute at a 300×300 dpi resolution. The MPrint is also compatible with a PC, Pocket PC and Windows Mobile to make it a true mobile printing solution.

The MPrint is expected to be available in Japan only at this point, and a price has not yet been determined.
