Best Buy offers bundle for grads

Posted in Best Buy by Shane McGlaun on May 20th, 2010

When it comes to high school graduation, most grads don’t want the sort of things that you would get on the average birthday. They want big-ticket items like computers, cars, and game consoles. Best Buy has a new bundle that gives the grad exactly what they want and saves the parent money.

The bundle includes an Xbox 360 Arcade game console and a notebook computer. The Xbox 360 Arcade is the same old console we already know about. There are two notebook options with the same hardware.

Best Buy’s CinemaNow streaming movie service starts this month

Posted in Best Buy by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2010

We’ve known Best Buy’s CinemaNow streaming service was in the works, but it’s finally ready to launch this month. Users who have an LG Blu-ray player will have access to $3-$4 rentals first, with purchases costing $9.99 to $19.99.

As they fine tune the service, it will be available across platforms just like Netflix and the others. Our guess is that you probably won’t be using the service.

Best Buy opens in UK, breaks global sales records

Posted in Best Buy by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

Here in the states we take Best Buy for granted. Most countries still do not have their own Best Buys. Well, in the UK they have just opened their first Best Buy store last Friday. And Best Buy has seen its best-ever opening weekend sales since they first set up shop in 1983.

Best Buy’s first store is in Thurrock, Essex, which is East of London. So the Brits apparently love Best Buy. Electronics were flying off the shelves to sound of thousands of Cheerio’s and morning gov’ner and an occasional “This place is bollucks”

Best Buy goes 3D at 200 stores on March 10, 900 stores by March 21

Posted in Best Buy by Conner Flynn on March 7th, 2010

I hear you. Many of you are sick of 3D already. Unfortunately it is just getting started. HD Guru has Best Buy’s schedule for rolling out 3D capable HDTVs and Blu-ray players from Samsung and Panasonic, and it’s all happening soon.

Sales and demonstrations of 3D gear will begin at 200 Best Buy locations on March 10. That initial outing will feature Panasonic’s 50″ TC-P50VT20 plasma 3D HDTV along with their DMP-BD350 3D Blu-ray player. On March 21, Samsung will apparently join the party, showing their LED 3D HDTVs, the 46″ UN-46C7000 and the 55″ UN-55C7000, along with the BD-C6900 3D Blu-ray player at 900 Best Buy locations.

Best Buy starts Motorola Devour pre-sale

Posted in Best Buy by Conner Flynn on February 16th, 2010

You still can’t get one in your hands until February 25th, but if you want to make absolutely sure you don’t miss out on the Motorola Devour, you can now hit your local Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile store and reserve a Devour starting today. And why wouldn’t you want to make sure you get one?

There’ a catch however. You’ll have to buy a $50 Best Buy gift card to insure your spot for the phone, but hey no mail-in rebates. Instead you’ll get an instant discount at check-out. However Best Buy still is not saying exactly how much the phone will cost.

Best Buy’s billboard of recycled electronics

Posted in Best Buy by Conner Flynn on February 9th, 2010

Here’s something that really gets the message across concerning e-waste. Best Buy has erected this billboard in New York City’s Times Square promoting their recycling program. Best Buy wants to “e-cycle” all of your old electronic items that you bring into the store.

They promise not to simply make more billboards out of them. We think. Though that would be cool too. Maybe they could start making their store shelves out of all our old stuff. It definitely catches your attention and puts it in your face.

Best Buy Offers a steal on HTC DROID Eris

Posted in Best Buy by Shane McGlaun on December 21st, 2009

I really hate when the good prices you hear on commercials or read in ads for mobile phones are after big mail-in rebates are applied. It takes forever to get the rebate money back and many of us end up forgetting to send the rebates in anyway.

Best Buy Mobile cuts through the mail-in rebate crap and just gives you the discount price up front. The company has announced a deal on the HTC DROID Eris that is running through December 26. You can get the handset for free with a new contract if you are a Reward Zone Silver member.

Best Buy unveils Rocketfish WirelessHD kit

Posted in Best Buy by Shane McGlaun on December 1st, 2009

bbrocketfishwirlesshdmiI once tried to wire a projector up in my living room only to give up when I realized what a huge pain it was going to be to run an HDMI cable from the TV up the wall and across the ceiling. If I was trying the same thing today, I would be able to use wireless connectivity to connect the projector to my DVR like the new Rocketfish WirelessHD Adapter.

The adapter includes a transmitter and a receiver that can send 1080p HD programming at 60 fps up to 10 meters away. That means you can connect TVs and projectors to your DVR or Blu-ray player without needing wires between the two.

The machine has an Intel Celeron 900 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, 6-cell battery and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. The notebook has a 15.6-inch screen and Intel integrated graphics. The notebook won’t break any performance records, but it should offer more performance than your average netbook.

bestbuymobile-logo-sgBest Buy has been selling lots of mobile phones via its Best Buy Mobile in store kiosk. Best Buy launches first ever portable HD Radio

Posted in Best Buy by Shane McGlaun on July 14th, 2009

bbporthdradio-sbI have a Best Buy insignia brand home stereo that has an HD tuner built-in. You can tell a difference in the sound quality between FM and HD channels. The HD station is CD quality and offers clearer music. The big downside to HD Radio is that there aren’t as many stations in my area.

Best Buy has announced the first portable HD Radio player called the Insignia HD Radio Portable Player. The device is powered by an internal rechargeable lithium ion battery and has ten presets to store your favorite stations. The device also sports a 1.5-inch LCD screen for viewing channel information.
