Archos 5 Tablet with Android now available from Amazon |
Well look what we have here. Archos has finally released their latest PMP, with the Android-based Archos 5 Internet Tablet now available from Amazon here in the U.S. and from other retailers the world over.
Right now, only the 160GB ($389.99) and the 32GB ($369.99) models are available for purchase. The 500GB ($499.99) model is still in pre-order limbo. The other capacities that were previously-announced will presumably come later.

Archos’s 4.8-inch A5 series has already passed the FCC, and now we have price and capacity info on the device which will launch on September 15th. The A5 will come in two flash and two hard drive capacities, featuring a 16/32GB SSD or a 160/500GB HDD.
Archos just recently got into the small MP3 player market with the Clipper, which will obviously target the SanDisk Sansa Clip. All they did was add the “er”. Though I don’t think that SanDisk will be bothered much since Apple dominates them both in the portable media player market.
The small and compact netbook might make for a good way to watch movies on the go. The big downside is that the average notebook has no optical drive making watching DVD movies impossible. You can download digital films or stream digital content when you are connected online though.
Archos has added a new netbook to its range in the form of the Archos 10s. This baby is slim and light measuring only 0.87 inches thick and weighing just 2.2 pounds. But aside from that, the specs remain the same to the

Archos has announced the Archos9, a UMPC that runs Windows 7. Its predecessors may be basic touchscreen internet media tablets, but the Archos9 can run a full OS. Some other features include a built-in webcam, 120GB of memory, full touch support, an external mic, streo speakers, and an optical trackpad as well as an on-screen keyboard.
Archos hasn’t said anything official yet, but there are leaks of the Archos 2 and 4 players, with the Archos 2 listed on Amazon. Don’t expect anything too Earth shattering here. They’re just another alternative to what the company already offers.
Archos launched a new accessory for their popular Archos 5, which will transform the PMP into a fully functional TV. The ‘Snap-on TV’ module doesn’t do much for the devices looks, but features dual tuners, which means you will be able to watch one program while recording another.
We’ll probably hear more about it at MWC, but Texas Intruments issued a press release about Archos’s use of the OMAP3 processor in an upcoming “Internet Media Tablet” that runs on Android and doubles as a phone. There aren’t any pictures yet, but the spec sheet reads like an upgraded Archos 5.
