Digimech clock has gear driven display
We all love interesting clocks. And by interesting, I mean bizarre. UK designer Duncan Shotton’s Digimech clock looks like a simple LED clock at first glance, but it’s actually a complicated mechanical machine that creates digital illusions. The vertical slides slowly move into position inside of a black masking box and the time is revealed.

Time marches on while the sliders climb to the top, until the 9th digit hits. Then it drops the slider all the way back to the original position. The slider are moved by 3 servos. It’s a very original and large clock that blends digital and mechanical in an interesting way. Check out the video below.

Lexon Around Clock

Lexon Around Clock
The Lexon Around Clock isn’t about giving you the precise time. It’s about giving you a rough idea. You’ll know it’s somewhere around 10:45 thanks to the red wire, you just won’t be sure of the exact time. Shunning the traditional clock shape, they’ve basically taken the Price is Right prize wheel, thrown the prizes away and put it on it’s side to give you the time. It’s available for $45.

Aluratek alarm clock wakes you to Internet Radio

Aluratek Internet Radio ClockIf you happen to live in an area that doesn’t have a radio station that caters to your musical taste, your only real options are MP3s, CDs or Internet radio. CDs are too old school for the geeky among us, MP3s are cool but can get expensive if you’re not into messing with RIAA so Internet radio looks like a good option.

The catch is that your boring clock radio probably only wakes you up to an annoying beep or FM radio. While a country song might get you out of bed quickly, wouldn’t it be nicer to wake to your favorite music genre? Aluratek has a new clock radio that can wake you to FM, MP3, a beep or Internet radio stations.

Test Tube digital clock will not produce babies

Test Tube digital clock will not produce babies
I love all kinds of stuff with vacuum tubes. They just look cool and remind me of a different era. I love me some iPod docks with tubes, amps, and clocks. Even this “test tube” clock looks pretty neat, even if they’re not real vacuum tubes or test tubes that have chemicals in them or a tiny lifeform.

It’s basically just a bunch of numbers with glass domes over each. It doesn’t quite match the style and warmth of a Nixie clock, but hey to each his own. It does have a cool retro look. It’s $75.

Cat clock wakes you with big eyes, glowing head

Cat clock wakes you with big eyes, glowing head
Cat owners are probably used to waking up in the dead of night to a pair of large cat eyes staring at them evilly. It keeps you on your toes and makes you wonder when he will make his move, so it’s best to sleep with one eye open. For the rest of us, there’s this creepy Led/Lcd cat clock with large eyes and glowing head.

It displays the time in it’s oversized glowing alien eyes from a multi-colored glowing skull, hypnotizing you just before you wake up. Then when you open your eyes, it plants various suggestions in your mind via the annoying beeping sound. It was spotted on ebay for $18. I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure this is an alien signaling device. Probably prepares you for your eventual abduction.

Overhead clock doubles as light fixture

Overhead clock doubles as light fixture
Time could literally kill you suspended from the ceiling like that. Death by numbers aside, it seems almost Orwellian. At least you’ll always know what time it is while you plug away at work, always looking up at the ever present glow and march of time. Time which also gives the room a cold foreboding glow. It was commissioned by the NYC gallery, Artists Space.

Maybe it’s just me, but I would just keep looking up at the ceiling, feeling like a lone french fry under a heat lamp giving off no heat. Then I’d notice the almost total lack of humanity in this room. I’d watch the time go by, bored to tears. Play with a few USB gadgets…Then I would promptly jump out the window into real daylight.

Dad gives son Steampunk Clock as wedding gift
Whether it’s marriage by shotgun or just a pat on the back, you can’t do much better then getting this beautiful steampunk clock as a gift. It beats the hell out of a toaster or a blender. The father spent weeks working on the clock, which is walnut with brass and other metals.

He did a pretty good job considering that the son only recently introduced him to the whole steampunk thing. Plus the guy is grade A crazy in a good way like Doc Emmett Brown. He wanted to wear a steam-punk suit to the wedding, but his wife wouldn’t let him. It’s made by Diversified Artistic Designs (D.A.D.).

Wooden nixie clock is totally tubular…dude

Wooden nixie clock is totally tubular…dude
I’m not going to make any wood jokes. No jokes about having your tubes tied either. I promise. We have a soft spot for these wood Nixie clocks. They just blend the modern with the old so nicely, you can’t help but fall in love with them. They just have style and they fit in anywhere you can think to put one.

You have to buy it as a kit and put it together yourself, but hey, that just gives you something to brag and be proud about when it’s finished. If you aren’t that handy and don’t think you can handle putting together it’s 115 parts, I guess you’ll just have to admire it from afar.

Home appliance alarm clocks
Sure, you can give your Mom this Home Appliance alarm clock for Mother’s Day…If you want to get smacked into next Wednesday. Listen son, your mom works hard every day. She’s got to clean up after your sorry butt, not to mention the rest of the family. Do you really think she wants to see yet another appliance that will remind her of all the work she still has to do?

Then again, if you really don’t care and she’s hard to shop for, go ahead and take the chance. The clock comes in a fridge, stove, iron, blender and washing machine. They’re priced at around $20 each. The washing machine shakes and shows a sudsy animation when it’s time to wake up. Oh, she’ll love that.

Rubiks Cube alarm clock is retro cool

Rubiks Cube alarm clock is retro cool
This clock looks awesome and it reminds you of the 80’s immediately and the fact that you couldn’t solve this thing to save your life. Have no fear, this one will be easy to solve since only the top row twists to switch between time, temperature, alarm and date modes.

It’s also very affordable at $24.98. Just think, now when you wake up, if you are out of it enough you might think it’s the 80’s again, just for a second or two. Just thank your lucky stars that it doesn’t require you to fully solve it in order to shut it off. If that were the case, it would have to hit the wall very hard one morning.

BulbDial clock updates the sundial

BulbDial clock updates the sundial
With all of our complicated and complex technology it’s easy to forget that most began as something primitive and simple. Take the clock, for instance. It began as a simple and uncomplicated sundial. The problem is that the sun is not always out and a single hand only gives you a rough estimate of the time.

Today we need just a little more accuracy. The BulbDial Clock takes the sundial and updates it by replacing the sun with three lamps that rotate around a central pole. Shadows are cast for hours, minutes, and seconds. It took somebody awhile to figure out a good upgrade to the original time-telling gadget, but better late then never. It’s just a concept at the moment, though.

The Pole Dancer alarm clock will not accept money

The Pole Dancer alarm clock
This Pole Dancer alarm clock will cost you some zzz’s in the morning, but it won’t cost you dollar bills. Experience a steamy show as soon as you open your eyes. You can pre-order it for £19.99 today, and on May 8 they will ship to single lonely men across the world.

She basically spins round and round with the typical cheesy stripper music playing in the background, so you’ll wake up. I would think that it might make you dream you were at a strip club, only to wake up to your disappointing alarm clock. That’s bound to wake you up pissed off and ready for your day… A day that includes tons of work and no strippers whatsoever…

Lifetime clock slows time to a crawl

Lifetime clock slows time to a crawl
Designed by Bertrand Planes, this clock doesn’t tell time in hours, minutes or seconds, but in years. It’s designed to very, very slowly make its way around the dial while you age. The numbers on the dial correspond to a 7-year period of your life.

By taking a standard clock mechanism and slowing it to 1/61320th of the speed of a standard timepiece, you could get very bored being a clock watcher with this one. This would be an appropriate clock for an immortal in the Highlander universe. It might seem a bit more normal and faster for them.

World’s first Etch-a-Sketch clock

World’s first Etch-a-Sketch clock
Here’s a first. The world’s first Etch-A-Sketch clock. They obviously went through a ton of trouble to make it a reality as well. God bless their zelda loving geek hearts. Every minute the device draws out the time in a matter of seconds and then actually erases it to start the process all over again for the next minute. Awesome!

Now if I can only finish my Lite Brite version of Dogs Playing Poker, my place will be all decked out in useless geek tech. Video of the clock below.
