Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on October 26th, 2009

inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry available for pre-order, shipping in FebruaryThe first BlackBerry watch is almost here, and it turns out that RIM really did decide to outsource it’s production. The inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry is being produced by Allerta, and will use Bluetooth for incoming emails, text messages and other alerts from your handset to your wrist.

Some specs include a 1.3-inch OLED display, glass lens, full metal body, vibrating motor, microUSB port and a rechargeable battery that will last about four days of “normal use.” inPulse users will need to install a special BlackBerry application to pass along information, but you won’t be able to use your watch to actually send messages. It’s available for pre-order right now at $149, and they should start shipping in February.

First images of RIM’s BlackBerry watch

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on October 19th, 2009

First images of RIM's BlackBerry watchRemember that rumor about RIM working on a Bluetooth watch to accompany its phones? Well looky here. We may now have the first real renderings of the final product. It may be called the “inPulse” and it features an OLED display, real-time message preview, and probably caller ID.

Looks like the watch isn’t being developed by RIM. Instead, work has been farmed out to a company dedicated to the BlackBerry aftermarket. An official announcement is coming “soon.” Thing is, Bluetooth watches haven’t been great sellers, but maybe more compatibility with the Blackberry is the trick.

Buy one get one for the BlackBerry Storm2?

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2009

Buy one get one for the BlackBerry Storm2?Someone over at BlackBerry Rocks posted a photo of a Verizon flyer that shows a buy one get one free offer. The flyer depicts a Tour, Curve, Pearl Flip and…the Storm2. There aren’t any real details included, but one can only assume that it could be a Storm2 launch promo.

Its the kind of deal that Verizon would offer with the launch of a new device. We may know more soon if some more images and promo material pop up. A BOGO offer for the Storm2 at launch would be pretty sweet.

BlackBerry Bold in white

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on October 8th, 2009

BlackBerry Bold in whiteYou knew it had to happen eventually. RIM has just outed the new BlackBerry Bold in white, with a white leather back. It will arrive on AT&T for $200 on October 18th. We aren’t sure why they would re-color the Bold with the Bold 2 apparently coming soon, but they have some sort of strategy it seems.

It will be here just in time for a white Christmas. It’s also the perfect BB for a white wedding. It’s up to you to decide if its tacky or cool in white. We are undecided.

RIM working on a touchscreen QWERTY slider hybrid?

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on September 28th, 2009

RIM working on a touchscreen QWERTY slider hybridWord on the street is that RIM is working on a new BlackBerry. One that will feature not just a touchscreen display, but also a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Such a device would definitely give users the best of both worlds and it adds flexibility.

The touchscreen would offer ease of use, while a QWERTY keyboard makes composing emails and text messages a breeze. At the moment this is just a rumor, but it wouldn’t surprise us at all.

Verizon BOGO Blackberry promotion is backIf you are considering picking up a BlackBerry, why not get two while you are at it? Verizon is kicking off their “Buy One, Get One” promotion. Apparently the deal covers not only a second BlackBerry but a netbook, PC card, USB modem or MiFi.

As is usually the case, you’re getting the cheapest item free and it’s rebate-based, so you will have to pay for both devices and then wait with baited breath for your check to arrive in the mail. Apparently the promotion starts today and runs through until October 10th.

RIM launching front facing camera on Blackberries next year

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on August 1st, 2009

RIM launching front facing camera on Blackberries next yearThis remains a rumor until we get something more concrete, but in an informal interview, a RIM executive strongly hinted that the BlackBerry line will be getting a front-facing camera for videoconferencing in early 2010. And they aren’t worried about the iPhone.

The mystery exec said, ““video conferencing is something that could completely change the mobile landscape and it is something we have been thinking about and working on for quite some time. You will start seeing something early next year”. It makes perfect sense, so we have no reason to doubt it. Are you looking forward to some videoconferencing?

BlackBerry Desktop Manager coming to Mac

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2009

BlackBerry Desktop Manager coming to MacMany of you Mac users have been waiting for this news. RIM has been known for ignoring Mac support for its devices, but apparently no more. We’re talking a full-fledged Desktop Manager that supports Mac OS 10.5.5 and above.

We’re not yet sure when it launches. All we know is that it will be sometime in September. The bottom line here is that you will be able to do stuff like sync iTunes, add and remove apps, perform firmware updates, create backups and restore from them, and manage multiple BlackBerrys at the same time. That’s pretty big.

BlackBerry OS 5.0 to get tabbed browsing

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on July 16th, 2009

BlackBerry OS 5.0 to get tabbed browsingLife got much easier with the advent of tabbed browsing for desktop browsers. It’s something we take for granted, but how great is it that we don’t have to open up a bunch of windows on our computers? It would be great if you could do this on your BlackBerry.

Well, RIM is all set to introduce a similar feature in their upcoming operating system, the BlackBerry OS 5.0. In fact RIM has been working on getting tabbed browsing right since around 2007, so let’s hope they’ve finally nailed it. We’re hoping that it doesn’t affect BlackBerry speeds very much.
