Tis the season: Pac-Man Christmas tree

Pac-Man Christmas tree

I think I’ve just found my all-time dream Christmas tree. This has got to be the coolest tree ever made. I mean look at it, standing like some great monument to classic gaming, awaiting only spectators to behold it’s glory.

It seems that some geek or geeks in Spain have been very busy elves. They’ve re-created Pac-Man and his ghostly arch enemies in a giant light display. The “tree” is actually a fully-animated version of the classic coin-op arcade game. They rendered it across thousands of colored LEDs. Check out a video here. I don’t speak Spanish, so I have no idea what they are saying. But a Pac-Man tree is cool in any language.

USB Digital Video rocket camera

What could be better then launching objects via your USB port? It doesn’t always have to be foam darts aimed at your co-workers either. This rocket is made by Estes, the famous makers of model rockets for the last 50 years or so and it comes ready to fly. What you get is a view of the rocket’s liftoff and flight from the rocket’s point of view. That’s because it has an impact-resistant digital camera in the nose cone.

It can reach as high as 300 feet and the onboard camera can record a 12-second video at 640 x 480 pixel resolution. The other option is to take up to three pictures per flight.(It can store 15). Just connect it to your PC with the USB cable to download the flight video.

ITC One entertainment super-machineWe all want a single unit that has every form of entertainment in one box. SE2 Labs has an entertainment super-machine that tries to oblige, while looking like a mini-computer server. Design-wise, it’s looks are simply amazing. It’s called the ITC One and it boasts an Xbox 360, HD personal video recorder, surround-sound processor, ICEpower High End D-Class Amplifiers, 4.3-inch touchscreen, iPod dock, and remote control system all in a single unit.

The price for having so many goodies in one box? A whooping $19,900. Most people would prefer to get a rocking home theater system at that price. Or even buy a car. But if you like it’s design and the fact that it’s so compact, go for it.

DVD Xpress Home Video Archiver

The DVD Xpress is aimed at that demographic who do not like to buy DVDs or just take awhile to get with the program. As long as you have a VHS version and the DVD Xpress home video archiver, you can turn your videos into digital versions. Store them on your hard drive or burn them to DVD. It also lets you
create movies for playback on your iPod or PSP.

It hooks up to your PC via USB. Then connect your camcorder to the video/audio inputs on the DVD Xpress. Put a blank DVD disc into your PC, press play on your camcorder and burn a copy automatically to DVD. It’s that simple. You better get started archiving all those precious family movies and bringing them into the digital age. May your embarrassing moments live forever.

BodyGard self-powered emergency tool

The BodyGard Self-Powered Emergency Tool is like a high-tech Swiss army knife, without all the knives. Consider it the MacGuyver of emergency tools. You get 12 devices in one, along with a hand crank, so you can generate power when and where you need it, on the spot. Never worry again about your flashlight, MP3 player, cellphone or radio running out of juice.

They obviously took advantage of every square inch of the device. It even has an integrated storage compartment for pills, matches and other tiny items.

Konami 12-in-1 arcade game

This could really be a Christmas miracle for anyone lucky enough to find this under beside their tree on Christmas morning. This would be a great machine to start that arcade you’ve been dreaming of in that spare room, because you are getting 12 games in one. You get games like: Frogger, Green Beret, Blades of Steel, Contra, Gyruss, Castlevania, Hyper Sports, Time Pilot ’84, Shao-Lins Road, Jungler, Scramble and Super Basketball.

It is available from Linens and Things for $399.99. No, this isn’t a Christmas joke. You heard right, Linens and Things. Seems odd I know, but when it comes to classic gaming, I don’t ask. I just buy. Anyway, I’m sure your wife needs linens by now. Oh honey look at this…

Floppy Disk CDR is expensive & not floppy

Floppy Disk CDR

You might remember the floppy disk. Your trash bin or closet certainly hasn’t forgotten. In the good old days, you used to get them in the mail in such numbers that they were used as coasters. Their enemies were heat, magnets and pressure. Well, these are not your usual floppy disks.

Inside their casing, they hide a 200 MB CDR. Stick them in your floppy drive and nothing at all will happen. But stick them in your CDR drive and the square disks will spin away. If you have missed writing on their labels, each has a different colored label, so you can write what’s on them just like the old days.

Gilded gaming: crystal nintendo ds and wii bedazzle

crystal nintendo ds

Let me start off by saying: Did I fall asleep and miss everyone striking oil in their backyard? Well, apparently so. And it seems that we need still more jewel-encrusted devices(This is worse then the Bedazzler making Jean jacket wearers into Rhinestone Cowboys in the 80′s.), since Crystal Icing wants to embellish your DS Lite with images of Mario and a flying Koopa for $350.

If that doesn’t satisfy your attraction to shiny objects, how about a custom Wii console covered with thousands of Swarovski crystals? One Wii pimped out in a Zelda theme was detailed with over 7500 24-Karat gold-dipped crystals. If you are interested in the price, you’ll have to follow the link. I’m too scared to look.

Let It Snow executive sandbox

Let’s say you’re trapped in the office, but you would rather be out playing in the snow. Well, you can’t just say screw the job and go make snow angels. Better yet, what if you live in a climate where you don’t get snow at Christmas time? Worse still, what if you live in the year 2587 and global warming has made it so that you will never have a white Christmas again?

The Let It Snow Executive Sandbox has the cure for what ails ya. Just play in the snow right at your desk. Snowmen, sleds, shovels, a tree…this sandbox has it all. You’ll be singing Frosty The Snowman in no time. And if you crank up the AC, your fingertips might just get frost bit. This is alot of winter cheer for the low price of $9.99.

Tag Heuer mobile phone watches

Tag Heuer mobile phone watches

If you like wearing a phone on your wrist like Dick Tracy or Buck Rogers, but hate it when people ask you why your watch looks so strange, you’ll like this new Tag Heuer watch/phone. The watch maker has officially announced the Tag Heuer mobile phones. As far as looks go, it is heavy on the watch side. You wouldn’t know it was a phone at all by looking at it. In fact, the design is 3 years in the making as they wanted to streamline this new breed of mobile phone.

Though it seems that nothing has been finalized yet, it looks like the watches will include a touchscreen display, a speaker and vibrate mode, stereo bluetooth, an MP3 player, and a kinetic power source.

The Thodio Box is an iPod Dock with class

Posted in iPod Accessories, music by Conner Flynn on December 3rd, 2007

The Thodio Box iPod Dock

The Thodio iBox is a very nice and somewhat retro looking iPod amplifier that is handcrafted from wood which is finished with quality high gloss lacquer. It will make your desk look much classier. The rechargeable battery provides 15 hours of juice, and the two speakers deliver 25 watts of power each.

It’s been a trend lately to recapture that look of old 1950′s Television sets with their woodgrain cabinets, and translate the look to these new devices. Anything looks at least a bit neater in wood, but with the Thodio, I think they got the design just right. Each case is handcrafted from 15mm of beech, oak, teak, zebrano or mahogany.

Wake the dead with coffin speakers

Coffin It Up Coffin Speakers

These Coffin It Up coffin speakers would have been great for Halloween. Maybe you’re feeling Goth or just a tad emo, in which case they are perfect for year round use. Each coffin is made with melamine and houses 2 sets of speakers: 5″ 2 way and 6″ x 9″ three way speakers. Vibration dampening material inside helps create crystal clear sound that that will travel through your entire Addams Family mansion.

Each coffin speaker is 25.5″ long X 13″ wide X 8″ deep and comes complete with hand grips on the side for your poll-bearers to “carry that weight”. I suppose the only way these would be better for your music crypt, would be if a skeleton actually popped out with a guitar.

CD and circuit board Christmas ornaments

CD and circuit board Christmas ornaments

I’ve got a ton of circuit boards taking up room in my closet. Partly because I’m a part-time artist and I have not figured out what to do with them yet. Partly because I like taking stuff apart. Apparently, some smarter people then myself have come up with a clever use for recycled circuit boards. CDs too. Christmas ornaments for a high tech looking tree.

Nigel’s Eco Store has filled up their shop with them for the holidays. The shininess of the CD and the glittering metal on the circuit boards should catch the light from any tree very nicely. They are only around $6 and come in all the shapes you would expect. Bells, trees, and stars.

Play NES Cartridges On Your Nintendo DS

I don’t know about you, but I have been meaning to hack my Nintendo DS so it can play more then just DS and GBA games. I just hate the idea of cracking it open and messing up big time. Thanks to this DS Famicom Adapter, I won’t have to worry.

It will let you play old Famicom (NES) games right on your DS. An adapter may be needed to play American NES games using it, it’s too early to know for sure, but who cares. You will be playing the classics on your Nintendo DS in no time. So what if those cartridges were huge and clunky. When you combine 2 systems in one device, the results are always cool. It hooks directly into your DS Lite’s GBA adapter slot.

Potty Time watch lets kids know when to go

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on November 30th, 2007

Potty Time watch

The Potty Watch from Potty Time is designed to help young parents potty train their kids without having to go potty themselves. The watch is worn by the toddler, and plays music and flashes lights in 30, 60 or 90 minute intervals and then resets itself automatically.

When the lights flash, that’s the signal to drop what they’re doing and head towards the potty. What an amazing concept, you not only teach the little rug-rat to go potty, but you teach him that gadgets are fun. Next thing you know, you have bred a good little consumer.(Who can relieve themselves no less) The only downside that I see is if they become too dependant on the watch as they grow. Just imagine in 20-30 years, as businessmen and women everywhere rush to the bathroom the minute their watch beeps.
