iPhone 5 coming to US on September 5th?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on July 24th, 2011

According to iPhoneItalia they have a “very reliable source” who claims that Apple will be launching the iPhone 5 on October 5th on Swisscom’s network. The source is a senior executive at Swisscom. The story says that the October 5th date is the “rest of the world” date. In other words one month after the US release date: September 5th.

Apple would inform wireless carriers of their iPhone 5 intentions ahead of time, so there may be something here, but for now it is just a rumor that is unconfirmed.

iFixit has a new MacBook Air. You know what that means.Tearing it open and checking it out. So what did they find. There’s the new Thunderbolt port of course and the fancy new keyboard backlighting. But inside is where all the good stuff is.

There’s an Intel Core i5 processor of course and a Bluetooth 4.0 chip and we also learned that the MacBook Air scores a four out of ten for ease of repair, so it might be best to leave this job to the experts. After all this toy is expensive.

This Spy Camera Looks Like A Sony Alarm Clock and Radio

Posted in Spy Gear by Conner Flynn on July 21st, 2011

This spy camera is scary because it looks just like a Sony alarm clock. In fact, I have the Sony model that it is imitating in my home. I hope no one has been spying. This hidden camera records 720p HD videos in MPEG4 format and stores them on an SD card (16GB provided).

It will give you a time and date stamp and is motion activated. I don’t think that anyone would even suspect it was more than a clock, especially when it functions as a regular alarm clock/radio when it isn’t spying. It will cost you $329.89.

R/C cars steered by Android smartphones

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2011

R/C cars are fun. Almost every kid has played with one at some point. Now the BlueDrone project wants to use your Android smartphone as a controller and get rid of those clunky remotes. The concept pairs the car with the Bluetooth-enabled handset and allows you to maneuver it with your phone using the onscreen controls.

It delivers a drive time of 3 hours with a range of about 30 feet. The custom app will let the driver use the accelerometer to steer as an alternative to the onscreen wheel as well. They just need $200,000 to commercialize the project. We hope they get it.
