Royal College of Art graduate Ki Hyun Kim must really like coffee. He designed the Alternative Alarm Clock, which allows you to wake up to the smell of coffee instead of beeping sounds that make you want to throw your clock.

The Alternative Alarm Clock is also a combination alarm/power strip, allowing you to plug in any electrical device you want like a lamp or a radio. When the alarm is activated, the electric outlet supplies power to the electrical devices.

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2011

Soon AT&T will offer insurance for your iPhone. They will start covering the iPhone on July 17, the company’s existing mobile insurance policy will offer coverage against loss, theft, accidental physical or liquid damage, and mechanical and/or electrical failure after Apple’s warranty expires.

The plan already covers other phones and mobile devices. Insuring an iPhone will cost $4.99 a month for each mobile number and a $50 or $125 deductible will be applied for each claim, depending on the model of iPhone. AT&T will replace the phone within the next business day in most cases with either a new or remanufactured phone but is limiting the number of claims to two within 12 months.

HTC Marvel hits the FCC

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2011

The FCC’s database has yielded a mysterious HTC smartphone going by the PG76240 model name, with support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ frequencies, which means that another HTC model might hit the carrier soon. There aren’t many details to go on, but it look like it will be the HTC Marvel.

The Marvel is just an HTC Wildfire S with support for T-Mobile’s network, and both devices share similar model numbers – PG76240 and PG76100. It’s just guesswork for now, but we should have confirmation soon.

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2011

You might have noticed that Google had no tweets in their Google search results yesterday. That is because the company has temporarily suspended the Realtime search feature, as part of its Google+ launch. Google explained that it needs time to integrate Google+ within its social network-based search tool.

And their deal with Twitter has expired. While Google will not have access to this special feed from Twitter, information on Twitter that’s publicly available to their crawlers will still be searchable and discoverable on Google.

2D Glasses

Posted in 3D by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2011

3D is the latest gimmick to get you into theaters, but maybe you don’t want 3D. Maybe you are sick of it. Maybe it even makes you sick or gives you a headache. Not everything needs to be 3D. These 2d glasses can help.

3D movies show two overlapping images on the screen, with one image for the right eye and the other for the left eye. 3D glasses darken the eye that is not meant to see the image. 2D glasses takes the image for the right eye and shows both eyes. What you get is plain old 2D.

HTC sales up almost 88-percent from last year

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on July 4th, 2011

HTC has moved into the number five slot on IDC’s list of the top handset makers, beating RIM and behind Apple, but the company has also had its share prices drop 19-percent since June 7th. They rebounded a bit after the company’s sales for June were 87.8-percent higher than the same time last year.

And interestingly that’s a drop from May’s figures which were 116-percent higher than the same month last year. Not bad, but analysts think they have more work to do.
