Google Launches Google+ Social Network

Posted in Google by Reuben Drake on June 28th, 2011

Google’s latest push into the social network arena is different than their previous attempts. It wants to take on one of the problems social networking has had from the beginning. The fact that you don’t want to share everything with everybody and you don’t want to constantly make lists of friends to share certain things with. That’s a good place to start.

Google’s new Circles service seems to take care of this problem by making those lists easy. Hangout can be seen as an always on video conference that you or your friends can join. Sparks is a service that aims to deliver fresh content on certain subjects like an RSS reader that you don’t have to set up. We will know in time how well people like it, but Google seems to have done a better job this time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Now the best selling game ever in the UK

Posted in Games by Reuben Drake on June 28th, 2011

This isn’t much of a surprise considering how well the game has done everywhere, but according to ChartTrack, Call of Duty: Black Ops has now become the UK’s best selling game of all time, beating its closest rival, Modern Warfare 2.

Since its launch last November, 3,722,411 copies of the game have been sold in the UK alone. This comes after Activision had announced that Black Ops was already the best selling game ever across North America and Europe, with 33% more unique players than Modern Warfare 2. Proof that a well crafted game will reward it’s makers.

Robots making me breakfast? Sign me up for that. This Lego Pancake robot can make pancakes in a bunch of different shapes which can be pre-programmed into the robot before entering your stomach.

The Pancake Bot is a 3 axis CNC made robot that uses the Z coordinate as the Pancake Batter Dispenser Control. I can only hope that one day we will be able to buy robots like this and welcome them into our home.

Hauppauge Digital Broadway Box

Posted in Set Top Boxes by Reuben Drake on June 28th, 2011

The Hauppauge Digital Broadway Box is not what it sounds like. This isn’t a box full of musicals and Broadway shows. It’s a new way to watch live TV on your iPhone and iPad (as well as other mobile devices). It’s basically a small stand alone box that connects to any TV signal and streams live TV wirelessly to mobile devices like your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Live TV can be watched over your home Wi-Fi network or it can be streamed over the Internet anywhere in the world as long as you have an Internet connection. It will arrive in July or early August for $199.

Posted in Mobile Phones by Reuben Drake on June 28th, 2011

Vertu phones. Tag Heuer. Can’t afford them and we don’t really want one anyway. Tag Heuer’s latest offering is an Android smartphone running Android Froyo 2.2. Outdated enough for you?

It will cost you $6,700 to rock that old OS too. Did we mention that it features Alligator skin as well? Basically an animal died to bring you this ugly outdated and overpriced phone. They shouldn’t have.

The new USB Rubber Vegas fan line from Enermax is unique because of how you mount the fans and move them around in your system. You don’t screw them in place. They use magnetic skin pads to attach to your case. Great news unless you have a plastic case.

Hello Kitty items are like Michael Jackson albums. Insanely popular, but nobody admits to buying this stuff. Japan Trend Shop has some new Hello Kitty iPhone 4 cases which are officially licensed from Sanrio. These cases are available in four styles.

You can get Bad Dots, Candy Pop, All Gray and Crazy Color. They cost $98 each, which is insane, but it’s not like you will admit to the purchase anyway. Just go ahead and buy a few. No one will know.

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 27th, 2011

Sony and Nintendo have embraced 3D, but Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has yet to actively support it. Xbox senior product manager David Dennis says that the company is taking a wait and see approach and you can’t really blame them.

He says that Microsoft will not implement 3D in the 360 until 3D proves its staying power and gamers demand it.

Star Wars Operation

Posted in Sci-Fi by Conner Flynn on June 27th, 2011

Remember the old Operation game. The funny bone was the hardest to get and I can still hear that buzzer! Now Hasbro is launching a new edition of the popular board game, but they have switched the red-nosed guy for R2-D2.

The game can be pre-ordered now for $27, and it will ship in September. Jawas are no longer the only guys who get to operate on droids. I wonder what R2′s hardest part to remove is.
