Windows 8 to come in at least 4 versions

Posted in Windows by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

We love choice. That’s why we have so many flavors of ice cream and it’s also why our gadgets come in so many colors and with so many varied options. Now that we are all hungry for ice cream, I’ll get to the point. Rumor is that Microsoft will offer at least four different versions of Windows 8 for devices with ARM processors. According to Renee James, Intel’s senior vice president and general manager of Software and Services Group, Windows versions that run on ARM devices will be focused on tablets and other mobile devices.

Are you tired of Microsoft having too many versions of their OS? This might be a problem for them. We will have to wait and see. But I think most of us just want one or two options for the OS, so we can make a hassle free choice and be done with it.

Samsung’s Hyper Real Engine helps process the video, which minimizes noise without sacrificing the sharpness of the image. Other features include Dolby 7.1 surround sound support and it will upconvert 2D content to 3D.

Some Xbox 360s not reading discs: Microsoft to give owners a new system, year of XBL

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

Looks like Sony isn’t the only gaming giant having problems. Microsoft’s new disc format will allow for an extra 1GB of storage space for new games and hopefully stop piracy, but there is a problem. It looks like some consoles contain drives that can’t read the new XGD3 discs. Opps.

The email pictured above has been confirmed as real by the Xbox Support Twitter account, but now it’s responding to inquiries by saying that the replacements are in response to a previous update and not the upcoming one that has been in beta.

Fujitsu LifeBook T901 tablet PC available in the US for $1899

Posted in Fujitsu by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

The Fujitsu LifeBook. Sounds like a medical alert bracelet mashed up with a notebook. Thankfully, it’s a lot nicer than that. And the T901 tablet PC is now for sale in the US. It is powered by an Intel Core i5-2520M processor and boasts a 13.3-inch, 1280 x 768 LCD that supports NVIDIA’s Optimus graphics.

That display also features an active digitizer, and for an extra $100 you can rock the dual digitizer that allows five-finger capacitive multitouch. It also features a modular bay so you can swap in a second battery or hard drive, etc. Not enough? How about an integrated fingerprint sensor to keep it all safe?

Toshiba 3D Optional Qosmio X770 gaming laptop

Posted in Toshiba by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

Toshiba has announced the new X770 Qosmio gaming laptop. This one has a more metallic enclosure compared to it’s predecessor and shrinks the display from 18.4 inches to 17.3 inches (1920 x 1080), which is obviously easier to carry around.

The standard configuration gives you a Core i7-2630QM processor, 8GB of RAM, 1.25TB of storage from a pair of hard drives, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics. You can also get a separate X770 3D model, which sports a 3D webcam and gives you a pair of active shutter glasses. Both will be available in the next few weeks, starting at €1,300 ($1,850).

New Verizon LG Revolution Pics

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

The LG Revolution from Verizon Wireless will be launching on May 26 and now we have the first real images that have surfaced online. It will feature Bing as the default search engine and run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. You can see the lock screen and that smooth new black cover in the above image.

We aren’t sure if we prefer the black cover to the silver back that was on display at CES, but either way it looks sexy. And if you are interested in the packaging, it will look nearly identical to that of the HTC Thunderbolt.

Apple working on a smaller standardised SIM card?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

If you want to make smaller phones, you need to make SIM cards smaller right? That’s just what Apple is doing. Apple has submitted plans for a smaller SIM card to the European Telecoms Standards Institute (ETSI) and has also received the backing of a number of major mobile operators including Orange.

The development and approval process will take a few months, maybe longer, but there seems to be a broad consensus among members of the standards committee, so that should speed up the process. Aside from making devices smaller, this standardized SIM card would also be used by other companies. This is odd for Apple since it usually restricts its developments to its own products.

Protect Your Wine Glass from the Dishwasher

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

It’s a common problem. Dishwashers are tough on Wine glasses. They have a tendency to move around and get knocked about. The Tether Stemware Saver can help keep your Wine glasses safe. The design features a hollow rubber base that slides over a dishwasher post and a clip that attaches to the glass’s stem.

A brilliant yet simple solution. Right now it is between a concept and product, but hopefully these are available soon, much to the chagrin of Wine glass makers.

Facebook. It’s everywhere. You can’t escape it. That’s great if you are a fan, and not so great if you hate the social network site. Easy2Pick Wireless Luggage Finder

Posted in Accessories by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2011

The problem with suitcases is that they all look the same. That can make it hard to find your bag at the airport. The Easy2Pick Wireless Luggage Finder can help. It has a built-in wireless transmitter and wireless key chain recognition device.

This means that while you wait at baggage claim, your key chain will sound, flash, and vibrate once your suitcase is within 20 meters. Now you know where it is and you have your bag. The device uses unique codes that prevent mistaken identification. It also automatically de-activates in the airplane and re-activates on the luggage belt. Using an electric photo sensor, it senses when it is in the the plane by measuring factors like light, altitude and noise. It will cost you $24.95.

R2-D2 barbecue grill

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2011

Hey even the evil Empire likes to have a barbecue now and then and when they do they do it in style. R2 has caused them quite a bit of trouble over the years and now it is payback time. The droid will be made to serve the empire by cooking up some delicious meat.

If you have a 55-gallon drum lying around and Smoker, you can create one just like this. Then give it a paint makeover. May the force and good burgers be with you.

Batman 4GB Bat Stick Flash Drive

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2011

We love Batman gadgets around here and here is the latest in flash drive form. It’s called the Bat Stick and is a 4GB flash drive shaped like the “Bat-Mobile”. Looks more like the Bat-Boat if you ask us.

It’s made from recycled stuff, so that’s cool. Better get this guy quick though. Only a single unit was created, using a broken Batman toy, some tape, some glue and a memory stick. It will cost you $40 on Etsy.
