Netflix Canada gets deal for Paramount movies

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2011

Netflix has now landed a multi-year deal to bring new movies and TV shows to the service’s streaming-only service in Canada. It covers about 350 titles that includes some recent hit movies like Iron Man 2 if you like superheroes and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button if you like an old Brad Pitt. The agreement includes exclusive subscription TV rights to first-run movies and puts movies in the “premium pay TV window” for releases.

This is great news for Canadian viewers. The service first came to Canada in the fall but suffered from a lack of content compared to the US. This deal should help with that problem.

Amazon Android App Store lets you try before you buy

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2011

Amazon has added new feature to their Android App Store that now allows you to try applications before you buy them. We can all appreciate that. We will get stuck with fewer apps we don’t like. The feature is called ‘Test Drive’. It’s an online emulator that allows you to try the Android app within the browser. This gives Amazon an edge against Google’s Android Market which doesn’t have a feature like this.

The new ‘Test Drive’ feature is only available to users in the US right now and it does have some restrictions. The service is also not available on every app in the Amazon App Store just yet. It’s only available on a few hundred apps, but more are being added as we type.

Pioneer offers new Noise Cancelling Earbud Headphones

Posted in Pioneer by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2011

Full ear cup noise canceling headphones are great, but by their very nature they are too large for comfort. So Pioneer has just released their new SE-NC31C-K, which can remove up to 90% of ambient noise. The noise reduction can be turned off if you want, while still allowing you to listen to your audio.

They also have a “Monitor” button that mutes the music and turns off noise-cancellation quickly so that you can hear the sounds around you. That’s great for safety reasons alone. With a new single AAA battery the SE-NC31C-K earbud headphones will deliver up to 120 hours of noise canceling silence and they come with a storage pouch, 4.6 ft long cord, 4 ear tip sizes, in-flight plug adapter and a AAA battery.

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2011

The Nintendo 3DS hit the UK last Friday and here in the US this weekend, and it looks like 3DS owners are already reporting problems with Nintendo’s new handheld. Some folks over at GoNintendo even experienced the problem, which is dubbed the ‘black screen of death’.

We aren’t sure how widespread the problem is or how many users have experienced it, but if you are one of them, let us know. This isn’t exactly what you want your new gear to do after you have just bought it. Hopefully Nintendo is looking into the issue.

We’ve had Google Android phones since late 2007 and the first Google phone came from working with HTC on the Google Nexus One which launched last year. This year the Google Nexus S arrived from Google and Samsung. So they like to partner up. The latest rumor is that Google is working on its first Nexus-branded tablet with another friend.

According to Mobile Review, Google is working with LG on a Google Nexus Tablet. Of course this tablet will run Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb and it might launch as early as this summer or early in the fall. It is likely that Google would make sure that the tablet would get software updates earlier than third party tablets.

Wireless Hyper Touch Guitar

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on March 27th, 2011

The Wireless Hyper Touch Guitar was delivered to our time by some roadie aliens from a distant future, in order to rock our world….Actually it’s just a concept, but a damn sexy one, from Max Battaglia. It has a sleek and sexy exterior, but the awesome part is its wireless/stringless neck and fretboard.

It doesn’t use steel strings, instead it has a multi touch screen that has a bunch of modular features. So the player can adjust the guitar according to his/her own wants/needs. We hope this one becomes a reality very soon.

Romulan Ale Star Trek Energy Drink

Posted in Sci-Fi by Conner Flynn on March 27th, 2011

Energy drink? Wth? When I was a kid watching Star Trek, Romulan Ale was booze. They would break a bottle out everytime a red shirt died or when Kirk wanted to get some green-skinned chick drunk. Now it’s an energy drink.

That guy really seems to like it too. He’s looking at it like it’s a woman. Kinda scary actually. He must be feeling the effects: one part diarrhea and two parts caffeine jitters. I don’t want this guy at the helm anytime soon or beaming me down to a planet in a million pieces. Don’t drink on the job buddy.
