Auto Ink randomly tattoos religious symbols on the skin

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2011

The gadget above looks like a torture device. It’s called Auto Ink, basically a three axis Cartesian controlled robot that inks randomly selected religious symbols onto the user’s arm. It comes from San Jose based artist Chris Eckert who wanted to create a never-seen-before tattoo machine.

Just place your arm in the machine, hold onto the grip, pray and then trigger the main switch. The needle then positions itself above the skin and begins its work. The user gets to assign a religion with its corresponding symbol and then leaves everything up to the machine.

Can Facebook compete with Netflix when it comes to renting movies? Well, they are going to try. Warner Brothers has just announced that they will be offering video stream rentals of their movies through the online social network. Right now they have just one title available: The Dark Knight.

Users can rent a movie for 30 Facebook Credits ($3) and you get 48 hours to finish the movie. You can watch the movie through the site and still access Facebook functions while it is playing. More titles will arrive in the coming months, and The Dark Knight is just a test to see how popular it is.

Philips unveils Dual View Gaming TV screens

Posted in Philips by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2011

Philips has just unveiled some new TV screens especially for gamers. The displays come with a new function called Dual View Gaming, which allows users to play multiplayer games without having to use split screen. This is great because it will prevent cheating and give players more screen room to view while playing.

It’s similar to what Sony revealed last month, but we don’t know if Philips is using the same technology as Sony or not. Players use special glasses to separate what they are seeing. So, would you be interested in buying this?

Konect USB watch concept

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2011

We’ve seen our share of unique watches. We thought we had seen it all in fact, but nope, there was at least one more. Artist Olivier Demange created this timepiece concept called Konect, which has a wide range of features and looks futuristic.

It sports a Bluetooth radio that acts as a receiver, controls for music playback, a button to answer and end calls, a removable USB stick, and yes it also tells the time. We just aren’t sure how yet. Still, it looks awesome and we hope to be wearing one soon.

GoPad Atari Asteroids

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on March 7th, 2011

Every now and then I want to play some Atari games, but I don’t want to dig up my old console and hook everything up. So this is a great way to get in a quick game of Asteroids. GoPad has released the Atari Asteroids gaming controller which comes preloaded with Asteroids and works with PCs and Macs.

Just plug in the device and fire up the game and go pew pew pew. The mini-controller has a d-pad and four buttons to shoot. Not sure why such a simple game needs four buttons though. You just need one to shoot. The GoPad Atari Asteroids game is just $24.

Krator Neso 04 speakers inspired by Sydney Opera House

Posted in Speakers by Conner Flynn on March 7th, 2011

While these speakers are inspired by the Sydney Opera House, they look like they belong in Star Trek. They are some good looking speakers, that’s for sure. Most speakers are pretty ugly. There’s the Neso 04 Drop to the nature, the Neso 04 Surrealism and the Neso 2, which is handcrafted from wood. The best ones are the Neso 04 Opera House, pictured above.

No idea how expensive these will be, but they will likely cost quite a bit since you don’t see good looks like this often in the world of speakers.

iPhone 5 may get aluminum back and new antenna design

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on March 7th, 2011

A new rumor suggests that the iPhone 5 will have an aluminum back to replace the iPhone 4′s glass back. Along with the new chassis, there will also be a redesigned antenna that does away with the external design in the iPhone 4. You might remember that this issue led to Antennagate.

The new antenna will put the iPhone’s antennas back into the Apple logo, similar to the way the Wi-Fi iPad housed its antennas. There was even a patent that turned up recently that suggested Apple was working with Apple logo antennas for the iPhone, so this makes sense. I guess we will find out soon enough.
