HTC Thunderbolt rumored for March 21

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

The HTC Thunderbolt has another firmer launch date now, through this latest rumor. Not one, but two insiders are saying that the phone will ship on March 21. BGR says that the tips came from fairly new sources, but also that HTC’s Facebook page briefly mentioned the same date. So it seems more reliable.

The phone was originally thought to have a mid-February release, with dates being repeatedly pushed back. This may be due to poor battery life that needed some firmware fixes, but we don’t even have official word on that.

iPad 2 shows up at Walmart early

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

In Central New York state, Anthony Carretero spotted the iPad 2 on store shelves already. One Walmart in the area had at least the 32GB and 64GB models in their display cabinets ahead of the 5PM Friday launch. Carretero didn’t try to buy the iPad though, but apparently one person who tried couldn’t get it to process in the checkout system.

This kind of thing is common in technology sales, whether due to inexperienced staff or any number of things, but it doesn’t often happen with Apple products. Anyway, for now you can look, but you can’t buy one until tomorrow.

As promised, Jolicloud is now offering Joli OS 1.2 for download. Sounds jolly to us. The cloud-based operating system makes finding, making and sharing web apps easier than ever before. The app creation process is whats new, letting users quickly create simple apps.

The OS has a large social component, letting users follow other Joli OS users and see their apps. Aside from that, the interface has also been refreshed, and Dropbox is integrated to allow file sharing between Joli OS devices. There’s also an HTML 5-based Chrome web app that doesn’t require you to download any software, just log in.

Kinect is the fastest selling consumer electronics device of all time

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

No surprises here. We knew that the Kinect has been a complete success. Since it was released last year, the motion control device for the Xbox 360 has been flying off of store shelves like crazy. Now it looks like the Kinect has set a new world record too.

In the first 60 days it was on sale, it sold an average of 133,333 units per day, for a total of 8 million units in those 2 months alone. And these figures were units that left the store and went home with customers. Not the shipments that were sent to retail stores. It’s amazing when you think about it. The Kinect beat the iPhone and iPad for the equivalent periods after launch. These numbers for the Kinect will be in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition book that will be available early next year.

Comic Strip Picture Frame

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

Digital picture frames are cool, but comic strips are better. No one prints photos these days, but I bet this new Comic Strip Picture Frame will get people printing them again. It lets you make your own new adventure using your pics.

It has six spots for you to put your prints into and it comes with sticker bubbles and a tiny pen. Just think up some cool and funny stuff to write on those bubbles and you have your own comic strip.

In other words, it will survive a child’s use. The Classmate+ features an Atom N455 CPU accompanied by the Intel NM10 Express Chipset and comes with either 1 or 2 GB RAM. Lenovo adds a choice of storage with a 16GB SSD unit or 250GB HDD as available options.

Court rules in Sony’s favor against LG, PS3 is welcomed back to Europe

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

There won’t be a widespread PlayStation 3 shortage in Europe after all. Thank the gaming gods! You can also thank the Hague’s civil court of justice, who has just ruled in Sony’s favor in its dispute with LG, and ordered that the 300,000 PS3s that are currently seized by customs be released to Sony for distribution.

Apparently LG has also been ordered to pay €130,000 in legal fees. If the company doesn’t comply, it will face a fine of €200,000 per day until it does. It’s a win for Sony all around, but you can bet LG isn’t done with them yet.

Star Wars home theater is awesome

Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

This Star Wars themed home theater can be found in Hawaii, not some Star Destroyer out in space. We’re talking 10,000 square feet. It is a vision of geek heaven. It has flat panel TVs, futuristic touchscreen remotes, a life sized R2-D2 and C-3PO, and other Star Wars stuff everywhere.

It looks just like the inside of a Star Wars spaceship, with awesome blue lighting and acoustic panels on the walls that look like spaceship doors. In this room you don’t just watch Star Wars, you live it. It has to be said though: If you take away the blue lighting, it almost looks like a Star Trek Bridge.

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

The Nintendo 3DS might not be available in the US yet, but we still have to prepare for its arrival by stocking up on accessories. To that end Power A is releasing the Official Expedition Case for the 3DS, licensed by Nintendo themselves.

The Expedition Case is designed to protect your 3DS from bumps, bruises and shocks and can hold up to 6 Nintendo 3DS games and 2 extra styluses. It’s available for pre-order now and will cost you just $14.99. The Nintendo Official Expedition Case ships on March 27.

EX Vehicle is powered by two screwdrivers

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

No this is not a vehicle that will whisk your ex away and out of your life forever, but it’s pretty amazing. Screwdrivers are it’s source of power. No, really. It was designed by Nick Ferbis. The EX Vehicle is a three-wheeled machine that can travel at speeds of up to 18 mph.

This contraption uses 2 twin 18-volt electronic screwdrivers as batteries and has modified bike parts. How safe it is, is debatable. Thankfully it only goes at slow speeds. Any mishaps should not be too bad. Pretty cool.

Fiskar 88 headphone amplifier concept

Posted in Headphones by Reuben Drake on March 10th, 2011

Fiskar’s 88 headphone amplifier is designed by Edouard Urcadez. It features a unique and sexy form factor, large volume / tone knobs, and a variety of rear outputs. There’s no specifications since it is just a concept, but we don’t care what it’s packing. We just want one.

We can only hope that it actually gets made in real life. It’s too awesome looking not to make a reality. What do you think? Should they offer this one to the public? Or not?

PlayStation now offering customer service via Twitter

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on March 9th, 2011

Do you have a burning question about a PlayStation product? Well if you have a Twitter account then you are in luck and can find some answers. Just @AskPlayStation. It’s that simple. Although I wouldn’t bother them with questions about how to jailbreak your PS3.

Yep. @AskPlayStation is the official account for all of your PS concerns, questions and comments. They will give you assistance via tweets Monday through Friday from 9:30AM – 5:00PM PST and will even answer in real-time between the hours of 2 and 5 PST. Mighty nice of them.

Google Smart Labels helps you sort your email

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on March 9th, 2011

Google has announced a new way to automatically sort out the mail in your Gmail account, with Smart Labels. Gmail already lets you create your own labels if you want to label your mail, but if you want it done automatically Smart Labels will do the job. You get 3 new labels in all: Bulk, Forums and Notifications.

Gmail will detect which emails fit into those categories and label them accordingly. Emails labeled Bulk are things like newsletters and promotions, while Notifications are account statements and receipts. Forums are group mailing lists that you are subscribed to. Pretty simple stuff. If a message doesn’t get labeled correctly, you can fix it and even tell Google so they can improve the system.
