HP has announced some new consumer notebooks that are based on HP’s MUSE (materials, usability, sensory appeal and experience) design philosophy. The new notebooks can be personalized with your choice of 17 exclusive wallpapers designed by six artists.

The Pavilion dv6 and dv7 notebooks use design elements from the company’s ENVY line and feature sleek metal finishing, HP’s exclusive Beats Audio, USB 3.0, on-board quad speakers and the dv7 also includes a subwoofer. Screen sizes are 15.6 and 17.3 inches and are powered by Intel’s second-generation Core i5 and i7 processors and optional AMD Radeon 6000 graphics. You also have the option of a Blu-ray disc player and up to 1TB of storage on the dv6 and 2TB of storage on the dv7.

Olympus announces SZ-10 superzoom, VR-330 and VG-110 compacts

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2011

Olympus has announced the SZ-10, which features a wide 18x 28-504mm zoom lens, a 14-megapixel image sensor, 3-inch LCD display, TruPic III+ image processing and support for Eye-Fi wireless cards. The SZ-10 will cost you $249.99 when it ships in March.

The VR-330 is priced at GBP159.99 ($258) in Europe. It lacks the newer image processing of the SZ-10, but for the price you get a 12.5x zoom lens and the same 14-megapixel image sensor. Both cameras offer 720p video capture, HDMI-output, and a dynamic 3D mode. There’s also a version of the VR-330 that ditches the 3D mode and sells for $199.99, called the VR-320 and it will ship in February here in the states.

Sony announces 3 New BRAVIA TVs

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2011

Sony Japan has announced three new BRAVIA-branded TVs, and surprise, (Maybe not that much of a surprise) none of them support 3D. But these TVs do offer some nice features, like a 500GB hard drive and the ability to transfer content from the hard drive to external hard drives via USB.

That beats 3D in my book. The flagship model is the 40-inch KDL-40EX52H which features an LED edge-lit display with full HD resolution, a double digital TV tuner, Ethernet port, 10W x 2ch speakers and 3 HDMI ports. It’s priced at $1,800.

White Nexus S coming soon to Vodafone

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2011

That White Nexus S that we told you about last month, which showed up in European retailer’s listings, just got confirmed for Vodafone.

It’s a white Nexus S and it is headed for Vodafone. That’s all we’ve got since details are scarce aside from that. Vodafone simply says that the phone is “coming soon,” and that it will be the only carrier to offer the phone in white, at least in the UK. So which of you Brits are getting one?

Best Buy announces retail exclusive of the HTC ThunderBolt

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Best Buy has confirmed its HTC Thunderbolt pre-orders along with its exclusive access to the phone. The phone can be reserved in advance for a $50 deposit. Since Best Buy has a “national retail exclusive” on the Thunderbolt, it won’t have to compete with other third-party stores.

We still don’t have a ship date and the price still hasn’t been set by the carrier, but a February 14 ship date and a $250 contract price have both been leaked.

Amazon Kindle update to give real page numbers, public notes

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Amazon has posted a preview version of a new 3.1 firmware update for the Kindle, which will bring some of its most requested features. Now you will finally have the option of real page numbers that match those from the paper edition and markers give students the ability to refer back to the real page if they follow along in class. Both are very handy features.

Book notes can also now be made public. This creates a social aspect that lets a book club or friends see what others have said about a title. That should make Oprah happy anyway. There’s also a new layout for magazines and newspapers to provide a better overview and a way to quickly jump to an article. Also, when you reach the end of a book, you will get the option to rate it at that time.

Verizon iPhone 4 gets a teardown

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

As usual, the folks at iFixit have torn apart a new gadget. This time it is the Verizon iPhone 4. Of course they found the expected differences, but they also found that the phone has a slightly lighter battery than its counterpart, that the mechanical vibrator has been redesigned and moved from the top right corner to the bottom right of the phone and that the phone has a Qualcomm baseband chip.

The chip is a Qualcomm MDM660 chip that supports HSPA+ data rates up to 14.4 Mbps, and is the same chip used in the Droid Pro. So the chip technically supports both GSM and CDMA, although Apple has decided not to take advantage of that capability for whatever their reasons are.

Huawei S7 Slim Android Tablet to debut at MWC 2011

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Among the Android tablets that will be shown at MWC 2011, Huawei will be releasing an updated version of their S7 tablet, the Huawei S7 Slim. Huawei was nice enough to release some photos of the S7 Slim Android tablet, but we don’t yet have any specs.

But judging by the image, it looks like it has a front facing video camera, and will probably feature a 7 inch display like the previous model. It won’t be long before we get more info at any rate.

White iPhone 4 finally coming?

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

The elusive white iPhone 4. We are still waiting for it to be released. There was recent word that the white iPhone 4 would be available in the UK in March, and there was also evidence of it appearing in AT&T’s inventory system.

And now the folks at Engadget have spotted a white iPhone 4 sign at a Best Buy, with a price tag of $599.99. So it really is looking like the white iPhone 4 should be available very soon. Then we can finally put an end to this saga once and for all.

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Ballistic has launched a new version of their Ballistic HC rugged case for the Verizon iPhone 4. The case shares many of the same features as the previous version for the iPhone 4. The Ballistic HC iPhone 4 case comes with five layers: a runner layer, a rigid frame, an outer rubber layer for shock absorption, a removable outer silicone layer and a screen protector.

Yep, they really went ballistic designing this one. It should be rugged enough for anything you will throw at it in your daily life. It even makes your phone look tough.

EFO Bluetooth Google TV Mini Keyboard

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

The keyboard that ships with the Logitech Revue set top box is comfortable to type on, but many people may have trouble finding a place to store it when it’s not in use. Here’s a great solution. EFO has a small keyboard that will be much easier to store.

Maybe not as comfortable to use, but it is more compact. The EFO Bluetooth Google TV Keyboard has 82 keys including the typical QWERTY keyboard and keys specifically for Google TV. There’s also a track pad. The keyboard has an RF option and normally communicates via Bluetooth. It has a operating range of 10 meters and the rechargeable battery has 400mA of power. Just $52.50.

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Cooler Master, the company that sounds like it will chill your beer, has introduced the Spawn gaming mouse. Sadly, it has nothing to do with the Spawn comic book character. Sorry if the name got your geek juices flowing.

It features on-the-fly DPI change with a 3500 DPI laser sensor, 32KB on-board memory, 7 buttons with 5 million OMRON switches and a rubberized no-slip exterior. It just might improve your game. You can purchase the Cooler Master Spawn for around $50.

Well, Best Buy has officially announced the program and it allows gadgets to be eligible without any additional cost through February 12th. Normally you need to spend about $70, depending on your device, to buy into the program.

CircBoard is a great way to type on an Xbox

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2011

Entering text on say the PS3 or Xbox is a pain. Especially in game. The Circboard can improve typing on a game console. The system splits the letters into segments that can be selected with the left analog stick on an Xbox 360 controller with the right analog stick selecting the specific letter.

Shoulder bumpers are the space and backspace keys, while the left trigger handles caps. It’s just a demo still, but they hope to get the system implemented in a variety of games and apps, so they are looking for investors.
