BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB for $499 at Office Depot

We now have more details on the availability and pricing for BlackBerry’s PlayBook. Looks like it will be available at Office Depot for $499.99 and in “week 17” which means about the last week of April. The PlayBook will have 16 GB of storage, wifi and is capable of 3G speeds when connected to a Blackberry phone.

The pricing is on par with Apple’s iPad, but RIM will want to get the PlayBook out as soon as possible since Apple’s iPad 2 is coming.

Olympus Tough TG-310 lives up to its name

Olympus is offering the Olympus Tough TG-310. This ultra-rugged compact digital camera is waterproof up to 10 feet, shockproof up to 5 feet and freezeproof up to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It also features a 3D Photo Mode which will capture images of a scene from two different angles.

Other features include 720p HD video recording, a 14-megapixel sensor, 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom lenses, dual image stabilization, Eye-Fi card compatibility, and In-Camera Panorama. It will run you $200 and it hits store shelves on February 18th.

Silver Motorola XOOM tablet shows up on video

We’ve been drooling over the Motorola XOOM tablet and waiting for it to be launched, but we didn’t think it would be available in more than one color. well, a video hands-on of the tablet has now surfaced and the XOOM in question has a silver two-tone finish on the back.

It kind of looks similar to the original iPhone. If Motorola releases it in this color scheme, at least you will have some choice. Do you like it? Hit the link below for the video.

iPhone passwords get stolen within 6 minutes

Password theft is a serious problem. And with the iPhone gaining more support in the enterprise scene, people have begun taking a more serious look at the security of the device. And so some reports have surfaced that thieves can extract and decrypt passwords stored in your iPhone. What’s more, they can do it in less than 6 minutes.

That means they can get things like your Gmail login, corporate VPN, home Wi-Fi, MS Exchange details and more, using a method that involves jailbreaking the phone and accessing the data. You should install the Find My iPhone app to remotely wipe your phone in case it gets stolen.

HP Veer is tiny

HP has announced the HP Veer, a compact smartphone that makes up for its size with a lot of features. How small is it? The size of a credit card and about as thick as a deck of cards. It runs webOS 2, with support for Adobe Flash, has a small screen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Other features include an 800MHz processor, a 2.57″ display, 8 GB of internal storage, a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and HP Touchstone support. Nothing on price yet, but it will arrive this spring. This is obviously aimed at the female of the species.

HP Pre 3

The Pre 2 is available for pre-order tomorrow, so we aren’t sure why HP has announced this one now. It kind of kills sales of the Pre 2. Sucks for that model. The Pre 3 is HP’s new webOS phone, packing decent specs. The Pre 3 will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8x55 processor clocked to 1.4GHz, a 3.58″ touchscreen (480 x 800), 8 or 16 GB of internal storage, and Flash support.

It also features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel rear camera with flash, 720p HD video recording, a VGA front facing camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and HP Touchstone support. Yeah, screw the Pre 2. You’ll want to wait for this one.

HP TouchPad: The first webOS tablet

At HP’s webOS event today, the first webOS tablet called TouchPad was introduced. The TouchPad features a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 9.7″ touchscreen (1024 x 768), 16 or 32GB of storage, Flash support, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, internal stereo speakers, Beats Audio, a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, and HP Touchstone support.

That is one nice feature set. The iPad 2, PlayBook and Xoom just got some serious competition. Nothing on price yet, but it will be available this summer.

AT&T announces the HTC Freestyle

AT&T will start selling the HTC Freestyle on the 13th of February 2011. It features a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, along with a 3.2 megapixel camera and runs on the Brew Mobile platform.

Other features include a microSD card slot which can take up to 32GB cards, Stereo Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s also HTC’s Sense UX interface which has a customizable home screen. The HTC Freestyle will we available for $99 with a two year contract. That’s after a $50 mail in rebate.

Softbank and ZTE team up for Senior Citizen Smartphone

Calling this a smartphone is not entirely accurate, but it isn’t stupid either. Simplicity is the focus here. This tracking device is meant for senior citizens and young children, to keep them safe. That large button in the center is for emergencies. Just press it and it will send an email and a notification to your relatives informing them where you are.

If you want to be tracked, just pull the cord on top and a sound is emitted, aiding the responder in reaching you.

Series 2 Android Toys from DyzPlastic

We love our toys and Android fans will be happy to know that some cool new figures have surfaced. These bots are series 2 from DzyPlastic and these guys are looking cuter than ever. They have three new designs including a Racer with the green color and white stripes and a driver in the belly.

Rupture is a pink robot with a black and white head popping out of the top. Then there’s Bluebot which is the basic Android mascot painted blue. The official launch date for the new designs is unknown, but of course we want all of them.

BlackBerry PlayBook coming to Verizon?

Of course the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will be heading to Sprint with support for its 4G WiMAX network, but what about Verizon? Well, it looks like Verizon will be getting it as well. A page was discovered that previously allowed users to join an early-access type of program for the PlayBook on Verizon.

Looks like the site is owned by a marketing agency that works for RIM and Verizon, so it looks credible. There’s no official confirmation that the PlayBook will be arriving on Verizon though. I guess we will see what happens.

Palm TouchPad weighs 1.5 pounds, is 13mm thick

So, about that webOS tablet. We now have some leaked specs and a name. It will apparently be called the TouchPad. It will weigh 1.5 pounds and will measure 13mm thick.

There was also a rumor about another device that might be a small phone, but we have no details yet. The webOS event is happening soon so we should learn more quickly.
