Apple now selling iPhone 3GS for $49

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 10th, 2011

Here’s some good news from Apple. Apple has now dropped the price of the last generation iPhone, the iPhone 3GS to $49 with a new two year mobile contract. This goes along with the recent price drop from AT&T on the iPhone 3GS and comes just as we are expecting Verizon Wireless to announce the Verizon iPhone, so this is AT&T’s chance to lock customers into a new two year contract before Verizon starts selling the iPhone.

We aren’t sure if Verizon will be selling a version of the 3GS as well as the iPhone 4, but we suspect that it will just be the iPhone 4 and we won’t see another iPhone available on the network until Apple launches the next iPhone.

HTC Droid Incredible takes a bullet

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on January 10th, 2011

John Garber, an employee at Club Halo in Atlanta, was shot outside his club, but don’t worry this story has a happy ending. Thanks to a bit of luck and his HTC Incredible, he is alive. The HTC Incredible was in his breast pocket and saved his life.

He will no doubt be an HTC fan for life. Though while his HTC took a bullet for him, some would say that the trade off might be radiation instead, since he had it in his breast pocket, but regardless he is glad he had it there.

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on January 10th, 2011

Samsung’s Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab is taking it’s sweet time to arrive, but Motorola doesn’t want its customers to wait so long. Motorola’s Latin America GM Maurizio Angelone says that a Wi-Fi-only version of the XOOM tablet does exist and that it will arrive in April, which is a month before the 3G version.

We aren’t sure if the dates are for Argentina only or if it applies to everywhere, but at least now you know that a Wi-Fi-only version is coming.

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on January 10th, 2011

Nintendo has some high hopes for their 3DS. And well they should since they had impressive sales last year. Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata has laid down some ambitious goals for the company’s latest portable. He expects the 3DS to sell 4 million units by the end of March.

That would mean about 1.5 million units in Japan and another 2.5 million units everywhere else. The 3DS should be available in Japan on February 26th, with the US and European markets following in March. We are gonna go out on a limb and say they meet their goal and have an earlier US release.

PlayStation Phone shows up on video

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on January 10th, 2011

The PlayStation Phone has found its way into the hands of some folks and now a video has popped up showing one of these lucky guys playing Resident Evil 2 and Rage Racer on it. The hardware seems legit, but the titles had to be loaded through ROM Buddy (a third-party Android app for running ROMs), so we are guessing that the software is still being worked on.

At least that’s what it looks like, but this could be a hoax. You can check out the video for yourself below and let us know what you think.

A barometer? Well, older humans do like to watch the weather channel. At least one flagship tablet will be compatible with Android 2.3′s barometer support for all you weather geeks.

Apple may drop restocking fees on Verizon iPhone day

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 9th, 2011

Apple may be planning an end to its restocking fees at retail which would help fuel the Verizon iPhone launch. The company would permanently waive the 10 percent penalty for anyone returning a device in the usual two-week grace period, starting January 11. That’s the same day as the special event.

However, 9 to 5 Mac didn’t say if it was a permanent policy or just a one time promo with the Verizon deal, but it wouldn’t be exclusive to the one device. Of course the company has not commented on this as yet. This might help get customers to try an apple product, if they were hesitant before.

You won’t need to install any drivers to use it and it has a headphone jack so you can monitor what is being recorded. Other features include a 25mm diaphragm and a cardioid pickup pattern. The frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz and it records in CD quality.
